Download or read book Expanding the Donor Base in Higher Education written by Noah D. Drezner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Association of Fundraising Professionals 2014 Skystone Partners Research Prize in Philanthropy and Fundraising Traditionally, institutions have relied on wealthy White men to reach their fundraising goals. But as state investment in public higher education lessens and institutions look to philanthropy to move from excellence to eminence, advancement officers continually need to engage all populations, including many that have historically been excluded from fundraising strategies. Based on theory, research, and past practice, Expanding the Donor Base in Higher Education explores how colleges and universities can build culturally sensitive fundraising and engagement strategies. This edited book presents emerging research on different communities that have not traditionally been approached for fundraising—including Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) alumni, African Americans, Latinos, graduate students, young alumni, women, and faculty donors. Chapters discuss and analyze successful programs and provide practical suggestions and strategies to create and implement fundraising programs that engage these new donor populations. Expanding the Donor Base in Higher Education is an essential resource for any institution looking to expand their pool of donors and cultivate a more philanthropic mindset among alumni and students.

Download or read book Mascot Minister Man of Steel the Final Reunion written by Mike Johnson and published by Author House. This book was released on 2009-06-08 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A boyhood buddy tried flipping himself into a beanbag chair, became a quadriplegic – and a highly esteemed teacher. June dueled cancer three times – and pointedly told the author never to forget her. Joel was a pubescent blowhard who became a helping hand to many before battling health crises. Pat was a homecoming queen, became a hospice nurse and overcame ambivalence about attending reunions before taking on cancer. During teen years Chris seemed the most self-assured but later revealed she had been “in a fog.” DeeDee’s husband, an MS victim, urged her to put him in a nursing home to ease her burden. She refused. This loveliest of widows kept on living and loving – and at age 59 still could do cartwheels. Fran proved unstoppable during a daunting journey from college mascot to career success. Poh Hong put aside doubts by family and friends and flew half way around the world to attend a reunion. John was a college football player, became a minister, accepted strangers into his prayer circle and dealt with his own heartaches. Then there was Jim who persuaded the author to attend his first reunion – and later showed remarkable mettle amid dire circumstances. Reunions can be powerful. High school, college and graduate school class reunions as well as one-on-one reconnections in distant locations can whisper strong messages, teach lasting lessons, and tell us much about the resilience of the human spirit.

Download or read book College for Sale written by Richard E. Schneider and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-09-13 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nasson College was a small, liberal arts college located in Springvale, Maine. Unfortunately, declining enrollment and questionable management decisions led to its bankruptcy and closing. But the path to closure had been set in motion many years before, long before the college filed for bankruptcy in November 1982. As it turned out, the end of Nasson College was not the end of Nassons story. Author Richard E. Schneider tells the tale of how the community and alumni tried to save Nasson, which was in its time a beloved and respected school. College for Sale discusses how, as soon as the school closed, its corporate charter, the campus, the student records, and the outstanding multimillion-dollar trust fund that would eventually come due were in turmoil. It shares the details of the lawsuits, three bankruptcy auctions, loan defaults, federal investigations, congressional interventions, the schools reopening, and its subsequent closing. College for Sale shows how the Nasson alumni held together and, bit by bit, restored the Nasson Alumni Association to an active, vibrant organization, just as the old campus was revitalized with millions of dollars in new capital investments.
