Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second volume of this three-volume work exegetes and comments on every occurrence of the Hebrew terms for righteousness in the Old Testament. It begins with a discussion of apperception and deductive method and concludes with an afterword on righteousness and ontology. The ontological argument affirms that God’s aseity is the foundation of righteousness in the Bible, and thus of all true righteousness. Righteousness is being true to God, and God is always true to himself, including in his self-existence. Other terms in the righteous word group, such as “righteous” and “justify,” are considered, along with the important word pair, “righteousness and justice,” in semantic domain studies in the first three chapters. Semantic domain studies show that terms like “upright,” “blameless,” and “good” are qualifiers of righteousness. Whatever the flavor or nuance of the terms for righteousness may be in different OT contexts, however, study shows that the underlying sense of righteousness is conformity to God’s Being and doing, and the same is true of the righteousness of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a Bible Study that incorporates the "SOAPing" Bible Study Methods. The book of Romans is one of my favorite books in the Bible because the doctrines taught through this book have provided me with so much encouragement. I have used the "Roman Road" many times when sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with other people. In fact, the "Roman Road" was presented to me when I gave me heart and life to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am thankful for every word provided through the Bible and it is difficult to choose one book as my favorite, but it is not difficult to say that the book of Romans is on my short list of favorites. Romans is the Christians book of clear DOCTRINE! The primary theme is "The Righteousness of God in Christ." The book of Romans can be divided into three sections that will guide us throughout this exciting Bible Study. The first section of Romans teaches us about people's need of God's righteousness. The second section reveals WHO God's provision for righteousness is, Jesus Christ. The last section of Romans provides us with encouragement for living in the power of the Holy Spirit who enables us to demonstrate God's righteousness in our lives!

Book excerpt: Wouldn't you love for God to use you to heal the sick, stop a storm, or feed the multitudes? This is the kind of adventure our lives are meant to be! But in order to experience these wonders, we must be willing to prepare our body, soul, and spirit. We need navigation tools, provisions, and knowledge of survival. We have been given authority and purpose in this life; unfortunately, most Christians are never taught how do it practically. God gave us the Bible to prepare us for the journey because He is good. He didn't create laws to watch us fail; rather, the laws are for our prosperity and protection. Our quality of life with God and with others is more fulfilling when we follow God's ways. We thrive and conquer the enemy when we have a light to shine. As we seek intimacy with God, our light gets brighter, and fear and darkness within are expelled. Mindee's heart is to reawaken you into the mighty call of the Father. You were made to be a mighty warrior, but you cannot go into battle unarmed and without armor. Ephesians six lists the armor of God, and it's interesting that righteousness is used as a breastplate. Physically, the breastplate protects vital organs; furthermore, spiritually speaking, it also protects your spirit man. You do not want chinks in your armor where Satan can easily deal a death blow. The best protection you have is walking in righteousness-choosing God first. Righteousness doesn't have to be a scary behavioral management theology. Our intentionality to spend time with God gives Him the ability to replace the bad habits and thought processes with His mind. May you feel the passion to awaken the Church unto righteousness! Solomon said that there's nothing new under the sun. We can see it in our cultures as there is no longer much of a dividing line between Christian and non-Christian. When the Israelites attempted to accept other religions/cultures into their nation, they were judged for it. The Apostle Paul wrote about grace not giving us license to sin in his letter to the Romans. We live in a fallen world, but we are not supposed to be of the world. We have been made righteous through Jesus! Get a glimpse of what life looks like when you recognize that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus! It is Him, through you, that righteousness is displayed. You don't have to concentrate on "being good." This journey isn't about behavior modification; it is about intentionally studying the Bible, having an active relationship with the Holy Spirit, and aligning your soul with God. As you partner with God, you will look, act, and love like Him. Right-living isn't about religiously following a set of rules. It's an invitation to a grand adventure where God uses you to do greater works than Jesus did! This is a life like no other!

Book God s Righteousness and Justice in the Old Testament

Download or read book God s Righteousness and Justice in the Old Testament written by Jože Krašovec and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2022-09-06 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A semantic study of God’s righteousness and justice in the Hebrew Bible that draws exegetical, theological, and philosophical conclusions about the character of God and God’s relationship with humanity. God’s work of creation and salvation for the good of Israel, humanity, and the world manifests the nature of God’s being. Thus, if we can understand God’s characteristics of righteousness and justice, we can better understand God. In the Hebrew Bible, these aspects of God are not expressed by abstract concepts but by semantic elements within literary structures. From this premise, Jože Krašovec undertakes the present study to put semantics into dialogue with exegesis and theology to illuminate exactly how God’s righteousness and justice in the Old Testament should be understood. In the first part of the book, Krašovec analyzes occurrences of the Hebrew root ṣdq (meaning righteous) and other synonyms, working systematically through the entire Old Testament canon. In the second part, he builds off this lexical study with a more broadly exegetical, theological, and philosophical exploration of guilt, punishment, mercy, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Krašovec concludes, among other things, that the biblical writers use “righteousness” as an expression of God’s affection for faithful people, especially those in distress because of persecution. God’s righteousness therefore exists in the Hebrew Bible in relation to the righteousness of human individuals and communities. Justice—whether in the form of forgiveness for the penitent or punishment for those who have hardened their hearts against God—is always carried out with the goal of building better community among God’s people.

Book This Is My Doctrine The Development of Mormon Theology

Download or read book This Is My Doctrine The Development of Mormon Theology written by Charles R. Harrell and published by Greg Kofford Books. This book was released on 2011-08-05 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal doctrines defining Mormonism today often bear little resemblance to those it started out with in the early 1830s. This book shows that these doctrines did not originate in a vacuum but were rather prompted and informed by the religious culture from which Mormonism arose. Early Mormons, like their early Christian and even earlier Israelite predecessors, brought with them their own varied culturally conditioned theological presuppositions (a process of convergence) and only later acquired a more distinctive theological outlook (a process of differentiation). In this first-of-its-kind comprehensive treatment of the development of Mormon theology, Charles Harrell traces the history of Latter-day Saint doctrines from the times of the Old Testament to the present. He describes how Mormonism has carried on the tradition of the biblical authors, early Christians, and later Protestants in reinterpreting scripture to accommodate new theological ideas while attempting to uphold the integrity and authority of the scriptures. In the process, he probes three questions: How did Mormon doctrines develop? What are the scriptural underpinnings of these doctrines? And what do critical scholars make of these same scriptures? In this enlightening study, Harrell systematically peels back the doctrinal accretions of time to provide a fresh new look at Mormon theology. “This Is My Doctrine” will provide those already versed in Mormonism’s theological tradition with a new and richer perspective of Mormon theology. Those unacquainted with Mormonism will gain an appreciation for how Mormon theology fits into the larger Jewish and Christian theological traditions.

Book The Righteousness of God

Download or read book The Righteousness of God written by Charles Lee Irons and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2015-03-10 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advocates of the New Perspective on Paul appeal to the view that "righteousness" in biblical theology is a Verhaltnisbegriff (relational concept). This is the view that "righteousness" does not mean conformity to a norm, nor is it an essentially legal concept; rather, "righteousness" denotes the fulfillment of the demands of a relationship, since the relationship itself is the norm. This relational interpretation of "righteousness" was first put forward by Hermann Cremer in 1899 and exercised a profound influence in biblical scholarship throughout the 20th century. It lies at the root of the New Perspective claim that "the righteousness of God" in Paul is a cipher for God's saving faithfulness to his covenant, a view defended by N. T. Wright, among others. Charles Lee Irons provides a critical examination of Cremer's chief arguments for the relational, covenant-faithfulness interpretation. The author argues instead for the view that "the righteousness of God" in Rom 1:17; 3: 21-22; 10:3; 2 Cor 5:21; and Phil 3:9 is the status of righteousness that comes from God as a gift.
