You will find a gold mine--with precious nuggets, including her personal experiences, effective facilitation resources, and pointers for extracting yourself and your team when you're stuck.” --From the Foreword by Diana Larsen, co-author, Agile Retrospectives: Making Good Teams Great Retrospectives are indispensable for continuous learning and improvement in Lean, Agile, DevOps, and other contexts, but most of us have suffered through at least one retrospective that was a waste of time, or worse. Now, leading agile coach Aino Vonge Corry identifies 24 reasons that retrospectives fail and shows how to overcome each of them. Using the familiar “patterns” approach, Retrospectives Antipatterns introduces antipatterns related to structure, planning, people, distributed teams, and more. Corry shares traps she's encountered and mistakes she's made over more than a decade of leading retrospectives and then presents proven solutions. With her insights and guidance, you can run enjoyable retrospectives that deliver concrete improvements and real value--or at the very least recognize when you are making the same mistake as the author! Create a common language, actionable solutions, and proven plans for solving the retrospective problems you'll encounter most often Recognize symptoms, assess tradeoffs, and refactor your current situation into something better Plan more effectively: decide who should attend and facilitate, when to schedule your retrospective, and how much time to set aside Handle “people” problems: deal with negativity, silence, distrust, disillusionment, loudmouths, and cultural differences Facilitate better “virtual” retrospectives, with tips for online retrospectives included in each antipattern Register your book for convenient access to downloads, updates, and/or corrections as they become available. Book The October Revolution in Prospect and Retrospect

Download or read book The October Revolution in Prospect and Retrospect written by John Marot and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2012-06-08 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a series of probing analytical essays, John Marot tracks the development of Bolshevism through the prism of pre-1917 intra-Russian Social Democratic controversies in politics and philosophy. For 1917, the author presents a critique of social historical interpretation of the Russian Revolution. Turning to NEP Russia, the author applies Robert Brenner's analysis of pre-capitalist modes of production and concludes that neither Bukharin nor Trotsky's NEP-premised programs of economic transformation and advance toward socialism were feasible. At the same time, he rejects the view that Stalinism was pre-destined to supplant NEP. Instead, he hypothesises that the superior alternative to Stalinism was NEP without collectivization and the Five-Year Plans — a outcome that would have been possible had Bukharin and Trotsky joined forces to stop Stalin.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the digital copy of the printed booik (Copyright © 2001). With detailed scenarios, imaginative illustrations, and step-by-step instructions, consultant and speaker Norman L. Kerth guides readers through productive, empowering retrospectives of project performance. Whether your shop calls them postmortems or postpartums or something else, project retrospectives offer organizations a formal method for preserving the valuable lessons learned from the successes and failures of every project. These lessons and the changes identified by the community will foster stronger teams and savings on subsequent efforts. For a retrospective to be effective and successful, though, it needs to be safe. Kerth shows facilitators and participants how to defeat the fear of retribution and establish an air of mutual trust. One tool is Kerth's Prime Directive: Regardless of what we discover, we must understand and truly believe that everyone did the best job he or she could, given what was known at the time, his or her skills and abilities, the resources available, and the situation at hand. Applying years of experience as a project retrospective facilitator for software organizations, Kerth reveals his secrets for managing the sensitive, often emotionally charged issues that arise as teams relive and learn from each project.

Book A Philosophical Retrospective

Download or read book A Philosophical Retrospective written by Alan Montefiore and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title looks at the conflict between two very different understandings of identity: the more traditional view that an identity carries with it certain duties and obligations, and an opposing view in which there can be no rationally compelling move from statements of fact to 'judgments of value'. According to this second view, individuals must take responsibility for determining their own values and obligations. The book illustrates through personal experience the practical implications of this characteristically philosophical debate.

Book excerpt: An ageing film director must face his past in the acclaimed Israeli author’s prize-winning novel—“a compelling meditation on art, memory, love [and] guilt” (Independent, UK). Yair Moses, an aging Israeli film director, has been invited to the Spanish pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela for a retrospective of his work. Accompanied by Ruth, his leading actress and longtime muse, Moses discovers a painting in their hotel room that triggers a distant memory from one of his early films: a scene that caused a rift with his brilliant but difficult screenwriter—who, as it happens, was once Ruth’s lover. Upon their return to Israel, Moses decides to travel to the south to look for his elusive former partner and propose a new collaboration. But the screenwriter demands a price that will have strange and lasting consequences. A searching and original novel by one of the world’s most esteemed writers, The Retrospective is a meditation on mortality and intimacy, on the limits of memory and the struggle of artistic creation. Book Retrospective From the Void of Emptiness to Planet Earth

Download or read book Retrospective From the Void of Emptiness to Planet Earth written by Herman Wong and published by BalboaPress. This book was released on 2012-12-29 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was given an opportunity to return to Earth to complete my unfinished business from God. While I was visiting heaven, I had re-signed a contract with God, promising that I would write a book about my experience. I always fulfill what I promise; I believe it is a beautiful thing to do. I have written about my experience in this book, RetrospectiveFrom the Void of Emptiness to Planet Earth. I have explored what it is like living as a spirit in nothingness before we set foot on Earth. In my opinion, our true nature is an infinite being temporarily accommodated in a physical body that we animate on Earth. This is part of the spiritual journey we must take. I have explained how a person should take care of himself, because no one else can provide such personal responsibility for another individual. Therefore, you should love yourself and believe you are significant. Celebrate your life at every moment. In addition, in discussing an issue regarding my health, I realized that the most valuable thing in life is to have superb health. That is how I ended up in heaven but was given a second chance to return to Earth to finish what I wanted to complete.

Book A Forty Year Retrospective of President Nixon S Committee on Health Education

Download or read book A Forty Year Retrospective of President Nixon S Committee on Health Education written by Joy Garrison Cauffman and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-07-29 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corruption within the Nixon administration was not limited to Watergate; his Committee on Health Education ignored and suppressed the opinions of professional health educators. In this history, two education insiders explain why and how the committee was a sham from the beginning. One of the authorsJoy Garrison Cauffmanparticipated on the committee and was threatened by President Nixons representatives for expressing her opinions. Now Cauffman and her coauthor, Ronald L. Linder, reveal how political insiders took steps to form the bogus committee; how President Nixon and his people quashed the recommendations of educators; how slush funds drive what goes on in Washington, DC; and how bureaucrats continue to distort the issues related to health education. Several committee members argued against the predetermined outcomes of the committees work, but they were silencedand the price they paid for speaking up is shocking. The future of health care in America is critically dependent on our ability to educate people on how to establish and maintain their health. But to make that possible, we must learn from the mistakes showcased in A Forty-Year Retrospective of President Nixons Committee on Health Education.
