This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) specifies scarf-cut polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) retainers (backup rings) for use in glands in accordance with AS4716. They are usually used in hydraulic and pneumatic system components as anti-extrusion devices in conjunction with O-rings and other seals for static and dynamic applications.NOTE: This specification includes material tests but does not include hydraulic or pneumatic performance tests. This document has been revised to: Add the requirement that no resizing of parts during the manufacturing process is permitted Clarify the use in AS4716 glands Delete the dimensional stability test requirement of parts (since this test is performed on each lot of molded material as required by AMS3678) Add the dimensional stability requirement of material tubes to 4.1 Include some editorial corrections and improvements Update the references.

Download or read book Retainers Backup Rings Hydraulic and Pneumatic Polytetrafluoroethylene Resin Solid Un Cut For Use in AS4716 Glands written by A-6C2 Seals Committee and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) covers solid, uncut polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) retainers (backup rings) for use in glands in accordance with AS4716. They are for use in hydraulic and pneumatic system components as anti-extrusion devices in conjunction with O-rings, packings and other elastomeric seals for static and dynamic applications.Because of the construction of groove dimensions, backup rings specific to rod applications are designated "R" - Rod (Female), backup rings specific to piston applications are designated "P" - Piston (Male). Piston and rod types of virgin pigmented PTFE are also identified by color code which also distinguishes parts to this standard from those made from virgin PTFE to other standards. This revision updates the metric conversions and includes some minor editorial changes.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Aerospace Standard (AS) covers scarf-cut polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) retainers (back-up rings) for use in static glands in accordance with AS5857. They are for use in hydraulic and pneumatic system components as anti-extrusion devices in conjunction with O-rings, packings and other elastomeric seals.Because of the construction of groove dimensions, back-ups specific to rod applications are designated "R" - Rod (Female), back-ups specific to piston applications are designated "P" - Piston (Male).Retainers specified herein have been designed for a temperature range of -65 °F to 275 °F (-54 °C to 135 °C) and a nominal operating pressure of 3000 psi (20.7 MPa) for code 09 material and 5000 psi (34.5 MPa) for code 10 material. Material codes are based on AMS 3678 material types.Consideration has been made to accommodate cylinder breathing on piston applications, calculated at .002 inch/inch diameter/1,000 psi (.051 mm/mm diameter/6.9 MPa) to ensure a minimum 50% lap at -65 °F (-54 °C). This has required an increase in the diameter on certain larger sizes and a slight overlap at ambient will therefore be apparent. These parts have been designed such that the overlap at 275 °F (135 °C) will not result in axial compression of the O-rings, even in the worst tolerance stack-up situation. This standard is required so that retainers (back-up) rings will be available for use with static glands per AS5857.

Book Gland Design O ring and Other Elastomeric Seals

Download or read book Gland Design O ring and Other Elastomeric Seals written by A-6C2 Seals Committee and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) provides standardized gland (groove) design criteria and dimensions for elastomeric seal glands for static and dynamic applications. The glands have been specifically designed for applications using SAE AS568 size O-rings, with related class 2 tolerances, at pressures exceeding 1500 psi (10.34 MPa) utilizing one or two anti-extrusion (backup) rings and applications at pressures below 1500 psi (10.34 MPa) without backup rings. The glands have been sized to provide sufficient squeeze for effective sealing while at the same time limiting squeeze to allow satisfactory operation in dynamic applications. While this specification covers the basic design criteria and recommendations for use with standard size O-rings, these glands are also suitable for use with other elastomeric, and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) based seals. For static external applications i.e. where the application is overboard and sealing to atmosphere, glands should be designed in accordance with AS5857. Revision B to AS4716 is a general update using current SAE format, minor corrections and dimensional tables added in metric units. Reference to AS5857 for static external (overboard to atmosphere) glands has also been added.
