Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Time travel, UFOs, mysterious planets, stigmata, rock-throwing poltergeists, huge footprints, bizarre rains of fish and frogs-nearly a century after Charles Fort's Book of the Damned was originally published, the strange phenomenon presented in this book remains largely unexplained by modern science. Through painstaking research and a witty, sarcastic style, Fort captures the imagination while exposing the flaws of popular scientific explanations. Virtually all of his material was compiled and documented from reports published in reputable journals, newspapers and periodicals because he was an avid collector. Charles Fort was somewhat of a recluse who spent most of his spare time researching these strange events and collected these reports from publications sent to him from around the globe. This was the first of a series of books he created on unusual and unexplained events and to this day it remains the most popular. If you agree that truth is often stranger than fiction, then this book is for you"--Taken from Good Reads website.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first study to focus on the reception of Paul's link between resurrection and salvation, revealing its profound effect on early Christian theology - not only eschatology, but also anthropology, pneumatology, ethics, and soteriology. Thomas D. McGlothlin traces the roots of the strong tension on the matter in ancient Judaism and then offers deep readings of the topic by key theologians of pre-Nicene Christianity, who argued on both sides of the issue of the fleshliness of the resurrected body. McGlothlin unravels the surprising continuities that emerge between Irenaeus, Origen, and the Valentinians, as well as deep disagreements between allies like Irenaeus and Tertullian.

Book Systematic Theology Second Edition

Download or read book Systematic Theology Second Edition written by Wayne A. Grudem and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2020-12-08 with total page 1617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition of Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem is one of the most important resources for helping you understand Scripture and grow as a Christian. The most widely used resource of the last 25 years in its area, Systematic Theology has been thoroughly revised and expanded for the first time while retaining the features that have made it the standard in its field: clear explanations, an emphasis on each doctrine's scriptural basis, and practical applications to daily life. With nearly 250 pages of new content and revisions, this new edition now includes the following distinctive features: Updated analysis of recent controversies within evangelical theology, including the eternal relationship between the Father and the Son in the Trinity, the role of women in the church, miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit, and contemporary worship music. New discussion and critiques of recent theological controversies situated outside of traditional evangelical theology, such as open theism, the "new perspective on Paul," Molinism (or "middle knowledge"), "Free Grace" theology, and the preterist view of Christ's second coming. Completely revised chapter on the clarity of Scripture. Completely revised chapter on creation and evolution, including a longer critique of theistic evolution and an extensive discussion on the age of the earth. New discussion of how biblical inerrancy applies to some specific "problem verses" in the Gospels. Additional material explaining evangelical Protestant differences with Roman Catholicism, Protestant liberalism, and Mormonism. Completely updated bibliographies. All Scripture quotations updated from RSV to ESV. Updated section on contemporary worship music. Numerous other updates and corrections. Part of the brilliance of Systematic Theology has been its simplicity and ease of use. Each chapter follows the same structure: discussion of the doctrine being considered, an explanation of that doctrine's biblical support and possible objections, followed by personal application and key terms to know for personal growth. Chapters also include a Scripture memory passage, references to other literature on the topic, and suggested hymns and worship songs. If you think theology is hard to understand or boring, then this new edition of Systematic Theology will change your mind.

Download or read book The Formation of Hell written by Alan E. Bernstein and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What becomes of the wicked? Hell—exile from God, subjection to fire, worms, and darkness—for centuries the idea has shaped the dread of malefactors, the solace of victims, and the deterrence of believers. Although we may associate the notion of hell with Christian beliefs, its gradual emergence depended on conflicting notions that pervaded the Mediterranean world more than a millennium before the birth of Christ. Asking just why and how belief in hell arose, Alan E. Bernstein takes us back to those times and offers us a comparative view of the philosophy, poetry, folklore, myth, and theology of that formative age.Bernstein draws on sources from ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, and Israel, as well as early Christian writings through Augustine, in order to reconstruct the story of the prophets, priests, poets, and charismatic leaders who fashioned concepts of hell from an array of perspectives on death and justice. The author traces hell's formation through close readings of works including the epics of Homer and Vergil, the satires of Lucian, the dialogues of Plato and Plutarch, the legends of Enoch, the confessions of the Psalms, the prophecies of Isaiah, Ezechiel, and Daniel, and the parables of Jesus. Reenacting lively debates about the nature of hell among the common people and the elites of diverse religious traditions, he provides new insight into the social implications and the psychological consequences of different visions of the afterlife. This superb account of a central image in Western culture will captivate readers interested in history, mythology, literature, psychology, philosophy, and religion.

Book Resurrection of the Dead

Download or read book Resurrection of the Dead written by Elder Roland John Buras and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2023-04-12 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book Different, yes, in its approach to the real meaning of one’s future. Fact or fable depends on your study of the word. Faith and belief will lead you first to Jesus Christ and then to The First Resurrection, in which the second has no hope. What is hope is answered in the The Resurrection of the Dead. As we are fastly approaching The End of Time, the writer exhorts and admonishes all, first to allow the Lord Jesus Christ to come into your life. Second, give it all to Jesus; He gave His all for you on Calvary’s Cross. All for you and for the whole world. About the Author Known as RJ to his close friends, Elder Roland John Buras is from Venice, Louisiana, which is the farthest part of south Louisiana. Growing up in his little town of Venice, it was very comparable to a tropical island paradise. RJ enjoyed the hunting seasons of alligator, ducks, and the harvest season of the citrus produce. Through the years, the devastating hurricanes changed the scenery and landscape of his town. RJ excelled in music and played in a band at fourteen. At 72, RJ still enjoys playing and teaching guitar, lead guitar, and steel guitar. His second favorite was baseball in which RJ was presented with sports medals by his school and sports director, Mr. Leroy Harvey. RJ is married to Charlotte Jean Carley Buras. RJ and Jean have been blessed with five children: John, Jason, Heather, Joby, and Sarah Buras. Their children live on the Gulf Coast near them. RJ taught all his children to play musical instruments skillfully. RJ’s wife Jean plays guitar and is a songwriter. RJ and Jean have been married for 52 years. RJ’s adventures through life have led him from Buras High school to River Boat Captain, pushing barges up and down the Mississippi River, going east and west on the Intercoastal Canal from Port St. Joe, Florida to New Orleans, Louisiana and on to Houston, Corpus Christi, and Brownsville. Texas. RJ really enjoyed the captain position on many vessels, including inshore, offshore, and on the Gulf of Mexico. By grace, RJ says he had the opportunity to become a Christian, then called to the Ministry. RJ spent many hours, days, and years studying the King James Version of the Bible and evangelizing throughout the United States. That is what enthused him to write this book.
