Book The Metaphysics of Resurrection in Seventeenth Century Philosophy

Download or read book The Metaphysics of Resurrection in Seventeenth Century Philosophy written by Jon W. Thompson and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-14 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a new account of the emergence of the philosophy of personal identity in the early modern period. Reflection on personal identity is often thought to have begun in earnest with John Locke’s famous consciousness-based account, published in the 2nd Edition of the Essay in 1694. The present work argues that we ought to understand modern notions of personal identity, including Locke’s own, as emerging from within debates about the metaphysics of resurrection across the seventeenth century. It recovers and analyses theories of personal identity and resurrection in Locke and Leibniz, as well as largely-forgotten theories from the Cambridge Platonists, Thomas Jackson, and Francisco Suárez. The book narrates a time of radical change in conceptions of personal identity: the period begins with a near-consensus on hylomorphism, according to which the body is an essential metaphysical part of the person. The re-emergence of platonism in the period then undermines the centrality of the body for personal identity, and this lays the groundwork for a more thoroughly ‘psychological’ account of personal identity in Locke. This work represents the first scholarly study to thoroughly situate early modern conceptions of personal identity, embodiment, and the afterlife within the context of late scholasticism. Finally, due to its focus on the arguments of the authors in question, the work will be of interest to philosophers of religion as well as historians of philosophy.

Book excerpt: Resurrection is a spiritual, Christian inspirational, self-study based on the teachings of Jesus. It?s purpose is to give hope and inspiration to every person who has died at heart and feels the emptiness. Resurrection was conceived from the Christian concept of Jesus being crucified and then being resurrected. This act was not only achieved by Jesus Christ over two thousand years ago, but he promised that, ?you can do all things that I do and even more...? Every human being has been granted a God-given talent. If that person is striving toward this Godly gift, they live life with passion. Sadly, many people lose their way and find themselves living in darkness. They turn away from God (love) - and they live a life of death. Resurrection will inspire your own personal resurrection. It motivates you to take back your life through the positive power of God and the words of Jesus Christ. An extra benefit of Resurrection is it is the first book to use ?imperative imprinting?, which is a method of selecting positive, action words and presenting these words in bold, which impress the subconscious mind. These carefully chosen words are also designed for quick reading or review.

Book The Twilight and Resurrection of Humanity

Download or read book The Twilight and Resurrection of Humanity written by Yeshayahu (Jesaiah) Ben-Aharon and published by Temple Lodge Publishing. This book was released on 2020-09-17 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique work – the fruit of many decades’ research and experience – throws new light on the supersensible history and karma of the Michaelic movement since Rudolf Steiner’s death. It describes that movement’s evolution and transformation in the etheric world during the twentieth century, from the world-changing apocalypse of the 1930s and 40s through to the beginning of its incarnation on Earth at the end of last century. The book also focuses on developments in the practical and social work of building the community of the School of Spiritual Science, which embodies the new Michaelic movement in our time. As Ben-Aharon indicates, the Michaelic movement is searching for creative, courageous and enthusiastic souls to foster a strong community that develops – from one decade to the next – as a living organism. Based on the continuous resurrection of anthroposophy, this community strives to create a fully conscious meeting and communication with the school of Michael and Christ in the etheric world, in a form that is appropriate and demanded by the times. The transcripts of these lectures bring together the author’s experiences with anthroposophy over the last 42 years in the light of present communications from the spiritual world. It is based on contemporary spiritual investigation and individual, lived experience. From the Contents: ‘The Amfortas-Parsifal Duality of Modern Humanity’; ‘The Twilight of Humanity and its Resurrection’; ‘The Universal Language of Michael and the Being of Rudolf Steiner’; ‘The Anthroposophical Movement in the Present’; ‘The Etheric Form is Alive’; ‘The Resurrection of the Etheric Christ in the 21st Century’.

In 2001 I died and became the god of resurrection. In this divine state I promised to teach of the process and of the joy before returning to my body, fi nding myself in a world of strange auras and weird synchronicity. My hedonistic life of travel crumbled as I struggled to cope with the enormity of this experience and my new found view of the world. Just as I was fi nding my feet, I died again and travelled to the Godhead. Through meditation I experienced the breathless state of Samadhi and travelled the corridors of the cosmic temple of the wheel of time. Through books I found confi rmation as to the nature of the resurrection initiation and its use by ancient shaman, Egyptian, Mayan and Indian kings as well as by Jesus and Plato. This book is an attempt to fulfi l my souls promise and unveil the great mystery.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents a collective effort to advance research on the perennial problem of matter and consciousness, body and mind. It contains contributions from the fields of philosophy, psychology, physiology, cosmology, and physics. However, its distinctive emphasis is on the key role of theology. The modern natural sciences historically arose as an attempt to read the second book of God—that is, the book of Nature. The contributors to this volume maintain that this orientation of early modern science was correct and that our contemporary understanding of matter and its link with the psychic world can only be plausibly advanced through an appeal to theology. Attempts to resolve the problem of consciousness without theological insights yield problematic reductions of mind to matter or vice versa. The authors maintain that a Christian theological understanding of creation and of humanity provides a framework for a more fruitful way forward in our interdisciplinary attempts to engage the issue.

Download or read book Resurrection written by Karl Olav Sandnes and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-04-23 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christian faith depends upon the resurrection of Jesus, but the claim about Jesus’ resurrection is, nevertheless, disputed. This book, written by a New Testament scholar and a systematic theologian in conjunction, develops the conditions for the claim. It carefully analyzes the relevant texts and their possible interpretations and engages with New Testament scholarship in order to show nuances and different trajectories in the material. The picture emerging is that the New Testament authors themselves tried to come to terms with how to understand the claim that Jesus had been resurrected from the dead. But the book does not stop there: by also asking for the experiential content that gave rise to the belief in the resurrection. Sandnes and Henriksen argue that there is no such thing as an experience of the resurrection reported in the New Testament—only experiences of an empty tomb and appearance of Jesus, interpreted as Jesus resurrected. Hence, resurrection emerges as an interpretative category for post-Easter experiences, and is only understandable in light of the full content of Jesus’ ministry and its context.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grounded in Christian love mysticism, Love’s Oneing gives voice to the luminous consciousness that awakens from within our oneness in God in contemplation. With great sensitivity, the book offers nuanced insight into the marriage of kenosis and desire in contemplation, through the rich tapestry of writings from nine mystics: Julian of Norwich, the Cloud of Unknowing author, Meister Eckhart, Mechthild of Magdeburg, Clare of Assisi, John of the Cross, Teilhard de Chardin, Beatrice Bruteau and Ilia Delio. With the delicate eye of a spiritual director immersed in mystical literature, Kerrie Hide situates these mystical teachings within contemplative prayer, whilst offering a scholarly exploration of contemplative practice to embody the insights. Deeply grounded in traditional and contemporary mystical classics, Hide celebrates how the Christian mystical tradition lays a foundation for the evolutionary growth of communion consciousness and the insights of quantum science, highlighting key moments in contemplation that when surrendered into, open into divine love. Born of intellectual reflection, lived experience and contemplative wisdom, Love’s Oneing makes a unique contribution to the existing literature on contemplation at a time when the recovery of the mystical dimension of life is crucial for the future of our planet in this climate crisis moment.

Book The Resurrection of Immortality

Download or read book The Resurrection of Immortality written by Mark S. McLeod-Harrison and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-07-31 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If humans are not capable of immortality, then eschatological doctrines of heaven and hell make little sense. On that Christians agree. But not all Christians agree on whether humans are essentially immortal. Some hold that the early church was right to borrow from the ancient Greek philosophers and to bring their sense of immortality to bear on the interpretation of biblical passages about the afterlife. Others, however, suggest that we are inherently mortal, and only conditionally immortal. This latter view is usually associated with an annihilationist interpretation of the doctrine of hell and a rejection of eternal torment. In a philosophical analysis and argument, McLeod-Harrison proposes that humans are, indeed, immortal, but not essentially so. But neither are we immortal accidentally or conditionally. Instead, immortality is an enduring property--a property we cannot lose once created. McLeod-Harrison carefully delineates the sense of immortality he defends and provides a broadly Christian philosophical argument for it. The argument, if correct, leaves the recent suggestion that the unredeemed are annihilated on unsteady metaphysical feet. However, McLeod-Harrison does not defend eternal conscious punishment for the unredeemed, but suggests some ways to think about the possibility of a universal salvation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "When God created the universe, He also created the Metaphysical universe.” This paraphrase from Donald Walch’s book “A Conversation with God” aptly points to the intricate matrix of themes, ideas and concepts which formulate a complete world view of how things work. This is important because our individual belief system has a direct impact on all of the events and important episodes in our lives and generally affects the quality and longevity of life as a whole. God as the omnipotent catalyst of the entire creative process does not interfere with our choices, but instead allows us to reap the benefits or suffer the consequences of our decisions. When we learn to raise our thinking to the higher consciousness of divine mind, the quality of life both individually and as a people will be naturally uplifted from an uncertain existence of coincidence and chance to a progressively stable and secure co-existence with the sustaining grace of God’s unlimited cosmos. This book represents an attempt to explore some of the more relevant concepts of mankind’s symbiotic relationship to an immaculate Holiness in which we intuitively have always known to exist but through the daily grind of everyday living have somehow lost touch. The book is not amid at any particular religion, culture or ethic group but is a rather modest endeavor to discuss an array of universal themes and concepts common to us all."
