RICTA 2014 has been organized by the Droplets, intErfaces, and floWs (DEW) Research Laboratory of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, with the collaboration of the Asociación Española de Ciencia y Tecnología de los Aerosoles (AECyTA). The congress was held at the Campus Catalunya of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. As in previous editions of RICTA and RECTA, the participation of young researchers has been encouraged, with the organization of the 5th Summer School on Aerosol Science and Technology, as well as awards for the best poster and PhD thesis. This book comprises three parts: the Conference Program, the Conference Articles, and the Conference Abstracts.

Book E FOOD Closing the Online Enforcement Gap in the EU Platform Economy

Download or read book E FOOD Closing the Online Enforcement Gap in the EU Platform Economy written by Maria Jose Plana Casado and published by Springer. This book was released on 2022-08-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Retail is ‘going digital,’ and grocery shopping is no exception. While some businesses are relaying on their corporate website to make the sale, both traditional brick-and-mortar and new disruptive business models are increasingly using online marketplaces to offer their products online. European Union law has been gradually updated to reflect this new reality, with Intellectual Property Rights legislation and Consumer Law leading the way toward a suitable regulatory framework in the Platform Economy. However, the EU has not devised a comprehensive strategy for tackling the challenges posed by the online sale of physical consumer goods, such as effective public enforcement in online environments. In fact, sector-specific legislation, including Food Law, largely ignores online transactions. In this context, the book evaluates the impact that online marketplaces are having on European Union sector-specific legislation and its e-nforcement. The goal is to assess whether the existing regulatory and policy framework are sufficient for promoting compliance and bridging the enforcement gap in the digital single market. Focusing on the e-food market, the book presents a state-of-the-art overview of how online marketplaces are altering EU law and its enforcement by public authorities.

Book Public Animal and Environmental Aquaculture Health Issues

Download or read book Public Animal and Environmental Aquaculture Health Issues written by Michael L. Jahncke and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2002-04-04 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume to thoroughly address health concerns in the aquaculture industry Aquaculture-farming aquatic plants and organisms-is one of the fastest growing sectors of agriculture, yet attention to aquaculture health concerns has not been equal to the rate of the industry's expansion. Public, Animal, and Environmental Aquaculture Health Issues serves as a valuable guide to new enterprises, regulatory agencies, and government agencies that are concerned with safe, controlled aquaculture development. The majority of aquaculture products pose no significant health risk; however, like traditional farming operations, aquaculture has associated risks to employees, animals, the environment, and the consumer. This book addresses potential unanticipated risks from the perspectives of both industrialized and nonindustrialized countries, as well as how to mitigate these risks. Chapters include: * Status of World Fisheries and the Role of Aquaculture * Aquaculture Associated Public, Animal, and Environmental Health Issues in Nonindustrialized and Industrialized Countries * Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point and Aquaculture * Aquaculture and International Trade Regulations * Future Considerations of Global Aquaculture Aquaculture business owners, managers, producers, manufacturers, research and academic scientists, government officials, consultants, and food safety specialists will find Public, Animal, and Environmental Aquaculture Health Issues to be a valuable addition to their professional libraries.

Book Sample Preparation in Chromatography

Download or read book Sample Preparation in Chromatography written by S.C. Moldoveanu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-05-08 with total page 949 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sample preparation is an essential step in many analyses. This book approaches the topic of sample preparation in chromatography in a methodical way, viewing it as a logical connection between sample collection and analytical chromatography. Providing a guide for choosing the appropriate sample preparation for a given analysis, this book describes various ways to process the sample, explaining the principle, discussing the advantages and disadvantages, describing the applicability to different types of samples, and showing the fitness to specific chromatographic determinations. The first part of the book contains an overview of sample preparation showing its relation to sample collection and to the core chromatographic analysis. The second part covers procedures that do not use chemical modifications of the analyte and includes methods for sample dissolution, concentration and cleanup designed mainly for modifying the initial matrix of the sample. This part starts with conventional separations such as filtration and distillation and finishes with more advanced techniques such as solid phase extraction and electroseparations. The third part gives a description of the chemical modifications that can be performed on a sample either for fractionation purposes or to improve a specific property of the analyte. This part includes derivatizations, polymer chemical degradations, and pyrolysis.

Book Fire Design of Concrete Structures Materials Structures and Modelling

Download or read book Fire Design of Concrete Structures Materials Structures and Modelling written by fib Fédération internationale du béton and published by fib Fédération internationale du béton. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fire design of concrete structures has emerged in recent years as a high profile subject of great interest to both experts and the public. This has been largely prompted by severe damage to concrete in a number of recent tunnel fires, as well as a considerable amount of research and development that has taken place world-wide. fib Task Group 4.3, "Fire Design of Concrete Structures", therefore took the initiative to develop this bulletin in order to present the results of this international research to a wider group of concrete professionals. The report presents a general brief outline of the effect of fire on both concrete material and concrete structures, with emphasis placed on the important developments of the past few years, namely: (a) the increasing use of high strength concrete (HSC) in buildings, tunnels and bridges; (b) the growing acceptance of the use of performance based fire engineering calculations for the structural analysis and design against fire; (c) the problem of, and solutions to, explosive spalling; and (d) fires in tunnels. This report is not intended to be an exhaustive review of the effect of fire on concrete and concrete structures, nor to present a database of properties at high temperature. Instead, the main aims of this document are to present recent trends and developments, highlight key influencing factors, bring together the disparate but related issues in one short document, highlight the deficiencies in current practice and point to the future. The basic principles of performance based codes and fire engineering are also presented on the assumption that the reader is not a specialist in this field.
