Book Results of High R Ratio Fatigue Crack Growth Tests on 304 Stainless Steel in Low Oxygen Water

Download or read book Results of High R Ratio Fatigue Crack Growth Tests on 304 Stainless Steel in Low Oxygen Water written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue crack growth rate tests were performed on a 304 stainless steel compact tension (CT) specimen in water with 40-60 cc/kg H[sub]2. Data in the literature for CT tests show minor environmental effects in hydrogenated water, but higher effects in oxygenated water. However, the PWR data presented by Bernard, et al (1979) were taken at low stress ratios (R=0.05) and high stress intensity levels (delta K=16-41 MPa square root m). The purpose of these tests is to explore the crack growth rate characteristics of 304 SS in hydrogenated water at higher R values (0.7 and 0.83) and lower delta K values (11.0 and 7.7 MPa square root m). Each set of R, delta K conditions were tested at frequencies of 0.1, 0.01 and 0.001 Hz. The results show a pronounced effect on crack growth rates when compared to available literature data on air rates.

Book A Review of Fatigue Crack Growth of Pressure Vessel and Piping Steels in High temperature Pressurized Reactor grade Water

Download or read book A Review of Fatigue Crack Growth of Pressure Vessel and Piping Steels in High temperature Pressurized Reactor grade Water written by W. H. Cullen and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue crack growth data sets, for pressure vessel and piping steels, in reactor-grade water environment have appeared in various reports and publications since about 1972. All of the results which have been published from 1972 through 1979 have been plotted and are presented in this report. Beginning with a discussion of the need for these data, and an explanation of the laboratory facilities which are required for this research, this report goes on to describe the overall trends which have evolved through consideration of the data sets and the conditions under which they were generated. A model for hydrogen assisted fatigue crack growth is described and applied to the pressurized water reactor type of environment. A complete listing of references is included in the report. Book Stress Corrosion Crack Growth Rates in Type 304 Stainless Steel in Simulated BWR Environments

Download or read book Stress Corrosion Crack Growth Rates in Type 304 Stainless Steel in Simulated BWR Environments written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stress corrosion cracking of Type 304 stainless steel has been studied with fracture-mechanics-type standard 25.4-mm-thick compact tension specimens in simulated boiling-water reactor environments at 289°C and 8.3 MPa. Tests were performed with either constant or cyclic loading. The latter tests used a positive sawtooth waveform with an unloading time of 1 or 5 s, a load ratio R (minimum load to maximum load) of 0.2 to 0.95, and a frequency f of 8 x 10−4 to 1 x 10−1 Hz. Crack lengths and crack growth rates were determined by the compliance method; crack mouth opening displacement was measured with in-situ clip gauges. Fractography was used to examine the mode of cracking and to confirm the compliance method for crack length determination. The test environments were high-purity deionized water with 0.2- to 8-ppM dissolved oxygen, and water with 0.2-ppM dissolved oxygen and 0.1-ppM sulfate (as H2SO4). Two heats with a carbon content of 0.06 wt % were investigated in solution-heat-treated and furnace-sensitized conditions. Degree of sensitization varied from approx. 0 to 20 C/cm2 as measured by the electrochemical potentiokinetic polarization method. 8 references, 7 figures, 5 tables.
