This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines organized interests in post-communist Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), providing incisive analyses in three critically important policy areas - healthcare, higher education and energy. The four countries surveyed – Poland, Hungary, Slovenia and the Czech Republic – afford rich diversity offering broad empirical material available for cross-country and cross-policy comparative analyses. This book will be of key interest to scholars and students of Central and Eastern European politics, interest groups and lobbying, post-communism, transition and consolidation studies, and more broadly to European studies/politics. Download or read book Stakeholders Sustainable Development Policies and the Coal Mining Industry written by Izabela Jonek-Kowalska and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-03-29 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book identifies the impact of internal and external stakeholders on the implementation of sustainable development policies in the coal mining sector in Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States. The book assesses what activities and conditions need to be improved so that sustainable development policies can be more effectively and efficiently implemented. With a specific focus on the hard coal and lignite mining sectors, it examines a broad range of case studies from Eastern European countries and the Commonwealth of Independent States, including Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Kazakhstan, Germany, Spain, France and the United Kingdom, among many more. Beginning with an introduction to sustainable development and stakeholder theory, Part II then examines internal stakeholders, including owners, managers, employees and trade unions. Part III examines external stakeholders, touching upon those directly related to the mining industry, such as customers and mining enterprises, and those not directly associated such as local and regional communities and environmental organisations. The book concludes by proposing a model approach to the management of stakeholders involved in mining enterprises, focusing on improving the process of implementing sustainable development in the mining sector and strengthening the effects of this process. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars of the extractive industries, natural resource management and policy and sustainable development.

Download or read book Poland written by Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and published by Paris, France : Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. This book was released on 2002 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like other central and eastern European countries, Poland underwent fundamental change in the 1990s as it made the transition from a planned to a market economy. The liberalization of economic activity and the democratization of government institutions were deep and strong. Today, Poland has a functioning market economy together with a democratic framework of state institutions, with the EU accession process fostering further liberalization and modernization. However, this is only the "end of the beginning." Achievements, especially in economic performance, need to be consolidated, and new legislation must be implemented in an efficient manner. Major challenges lie ahead in enhancing the states regulatory capacities; these include improving the quality of human resources in the public sector and the effectiveness of regulation at all levels of government. Liberalization of the remaining state monopolies calls for a more courageous approach and points to the need for further regulatory reform in support of the structural changes required in these sectors. A business environment more conducive to entrepreneurship is also desirable. The key message of this review is the necessity for continuous reform. Poland is one of many OECD countries to request a review by the OECD of its regulatory practices and reforms. This review presents an overall picture, set within a macro-economic context, of regulatory achievements and challenges including the quality of the public sector, competition policy and market openness. Its special focus is on regulatory progress in the postal, energy and telecommunications sectors.
Download or read book Growth and Change in Post socialist Cities of Central Europe written by Waldemar Cudny and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-12-29 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents multidimensional socio-economic transformations taking place in the post-socialist cities located in selected countries of the Central European region. The analysis includes case studies from the Eastern part of Germany (Chemnitz, Leipzig), Poland (Łódź, Kielce, Katowice conurbation, and peripheral urban centres from Eastern Poland), Slovakia (Bratislava, Nitra), the Czech Republic (Olomouc, Brno), and from Hungary (Pécs). The analysed urban areas have undergone far-reaching political and socio-economic changes in the last 30 years. These changes began with the collapse of communism and the centrally planned economy system in the region of Central Europe. The beginning of this period, often referred to as post-socialist transformation, dates back to 1989. The consequence of the aforementioned political processes was the multifaceted socio-economic and demographic changes that significantly affected urban areas in Central Europe. This book presents an attempt to summarize the main long-term processes of changes taking place in these urban areas and to identify contemporary and future trends in their socio-economic development. The book will be valuable to undergraduate and postgraduate students in human geography, urban studies, economy, and city marketing, especially with an interest in Central Europe.
