Book excerpt: When is the last time you stood outside and felt the wind upon your face? Or gazed upon the sight of natural wonder so breathtaking that all you could do was to look upon it, trying to drink in every last detail? When is the last time you felt truly connected to nature? When asked, more than half of Americans answered they felt like they needed to connect more with the world outside of their doorway. As much as we'd like to think otherwise, the clear majority of us spend less time than we want. Most average Americans spend less than five hours of the week outside. Somewhere we've lost our way. Do we no longer hold onto a sense of adventure we felt as children? Or worse, have we never actually connected with nature in the first place? Either way, we're missing out on something. Most of us hold a vague feeling of dissatisfaction in our lives and are looking for something we can't even begin to define. Our lives are out of balance, somehow. For most of us, the answer lies in reconnecting with something greater than ourselves. It lies in seeing the world as more than we experience within those same four walls enclosing us every day of our lives. It's certainly not found on a computer screen. Although you are probably reading this on a computer screen right now! Together, let's unplug and find out what lies just beyond your doorway. Discover the richness of life in nature, the joys of being able to breathe deep and be one with the world.Isn't it time to restore what's missing in your life, and discover the peace of nature's balance? You can do so with my book "Natural Harmony".

Book excerpt: Da Yan - Wild Goose Qigong The 2nd 64 movements From ancient times, Qigong was developed as a way of helping improve people's quality of life. It's an important component of the Chinese medical health systems. The art of Qigong consists primarily of meditation, relaxation, physical movement, mind-body integration and breathing exercises. When the mind and body come into a state of balance, stress is reduced and there is an increase in health and longevity. The 2nd 64 Da Yan Wild Goose Qigong movement set deals primarily with the 'pre-natal body' and refers to the energy we gather from the universe and from our ancestors before birth. Having dredged the channels in the 1st 64 movement set, the 2nd 64 movement set is designed to clear the channels to absorb fresh Qi, expel stale Qi and to restore organ balance. The twisting, stretching, bending and pressing movements produce stronger Qi fields and intensify the circulation through the energy channels. In the 2nd 64 movement set the goose is embarking on a great journey and flies out from this world to the edge of the Milky Way, to pick the herbs or gather the pre-natal Qi from the core of the universe. It then flies back to this world to share this healing energy with humanity Simon Blow is a 29th Generation of the Da Yan Wild Goose Qigong, an initiated student of the 28th lineage holder Grand Master Chen Chuan Gang, the eldest son of Grand Master Yang Mei Jung. He is a master teacher (Laoshi) and is the author of numerous books, DVDs and meditation CDs about the ancient Chinese healing arts. Simon has been initiated into Dragon Gate Daoism and given the name 'Xin Si' meaning 'Genuine Wisdom' and is also a Standing Council member of the World Academic Society of Medical Qigong, Beijing, China. 'This is the teaching textbook on Wild Goose Qigong in accordance with the original principles of the ancient masters, accurate instructions for all the movements, genuine meaning and interpretation of the understanding of all the key principles.' Grand Master Chen Chuan Gang 'Qigong makes me feel centered and balanced. I find I am calmer and more able to be the mindful person I wish to be.' Annie 'Qigong makes me feel calm, focused, happy and healthy. I have experienced improved health, both physically and mentally.' Jann

Book Navajo Nation Peacemaking

Download or read book Navajo Nation Peacemaking written by Marianne O. Nielsen and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2005-09-01 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Navajo peacemaking is one of the most renowned restorative justice programs in the world. Neither mediation nor alternative dispute resolution, it has been called a “horizontal system of justice” because all participants are treated as equals with the purpose of preserving ongoing relationships and restoring harmony among involved parties. In peacemaking there is no coercion, and there are no “sides.” No one is labeled the offender or the victim, the plaintiff or the defendant. This is a book about peacemaking as it exists in the Navajo Nation today, describing its origins, history, context, and contributions with an eye toward sharing knowledge between Navajo and European-based criminal justice systems. It provides practitioners with information about important aspects of peacemaking—such as structure, procedures, and outcomes—that will be useful for them as they work with the Navajo courts and the peacemakers. It also offers outsiders the first one-volume overview of this traditional form of justice. The collection comprises insights of individuals who have served within the Navajo Judicial Branch, voices that authoritatively reflect peacemaking from an insider’s point of view. It also features an article by Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and includes contributions from other scholars who, with the cooperation of the Navajo Nation, have worked to bring a comparative perspective to peacemaking research. In addition, some chapters describe the personal journey through which peacemaking takes the parties in a dispute, demonstrating that its purpose is not to fulfill some abstract notion of Justice but to restore harmony so that the participants are returned to good relations. Navajo Nation Peacemaking seeks to promote both peacemaking and Navajo common law development. By establishing the foundations of the Navajo way of natural justice and offering a vision for its future, it shows that there are many lessons offered by Navajo peacemaking for those who want to approach old problems in sensible new ways.

Book Restoring Your Eyesight

Download or read book Restoring Your Eyesight written by Doug Marsh and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2006-12-08 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A holistic guide to improving one’s vision both physically and spiritually • Explains how blurred vision is a reflection of other imbalances in the body, mind, and spirit • Offers natural methods for improvement of poor eyesight and stress-related difficulties, including dyslexia and ADHD • Combines the core values of the Bates method of natural vision improvement and Taoism Fewer than three percent of children in North America are born with visual defects, yet as they become adults nearly two thirds will become reliant on prescription lenses to see clearly. Virtually nonexistent in pre-industrialized cultures, this epidemic of blurred vision can be traced to mental, physical, and spiritual imbalances in modern society. The traditional “quick fixes” of eyeglasses and contact lenses only serve to cover the true cause of blurred vision while increasing eye-strain, and often progressively worsen eyesight as the eyes become trained to work within the confines of the corrective lenses. The advent of refractive surgery carries even more serious risks. In Restoring Your Eyesight, Doug Marsh offers a natural alternative that shows readers how to improve their eyesight by taking conscious control of their vision health. He combines proven methods pioneered a century ago by eye doctor William Bates with the ancient Chinese wisdom of Taoism. Marsh describes how vision goes deeper than the eyes and optic nerves, extending well into the layers of the mind, emotions, and spirit. Eyesight difficulties are often connected to behavioral and stress-related syndromes, such as dyslexia, ADHD, stuttering, TMJ, and anxiety disorders. He draws upon the core values of the Bates method and Taoism--rhythm, softness, return, balance, and wholeness--to provide guidelines for a holistic healing of outer and inner vision.

Book excerpt: This volume is comprised of contributions to the 67th Nebraska Symposium on Motivation, which brought together various research disciplines such as psychology, education, health sciences, natural resources, environmental studies to investigate the ways in which nature influences cognition, health, human behavior, and well-being. The symposium is positioned to explore two proposed mechanisms in the most depth: 1) the psycho-evolutionary theory of stress recovery and 2) Attention Restoration Theory. The contributions in the volume represent research guided by both of these posited mechanisms, rigorously examine these theories and processes, and share methodological innovations that can be utilized across programs of research. This volume will be of great interest to researchers on natural environments, practitioners and clinicians working with an environmental lens at the intersection of psychology, social work, education and the health sciences, as well as researchers and students in environmental and conservation psychology. Book Psychedelic Consciousness

Download or read book Psychedelic Consciousness written by Daniel Grauer and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-07-07 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An examination of the use of psychedelics for understanding ourselves, connecting with the world around us, and enacting outer change through inner transformation • Explores sacred tools and technologies to help us reestablish a lost ideology of unity, with a specific focus on natural plant/fungi psychedelics • Looks at the history of psychedelics and their role in facilitating natural intelligence’s ability to increase itself through ongoing analysis of its own experience • Provides guidelines for safely using natural plant/fungi psychedelics and integrating them into society to access unified consciousness and restore balance to our world Our ecological, social, and political issues all stem from the ideologies that drive our collective actions. In contrast to our innate humanity, which is rooted in unity, these ideologies have led us to believe that we are separate from each other, separate from nature, and separate from the results of our actions. Such a worldview encourages individuals to maximize self-interest, which then causes fragmentation, conflict, pollution, and the depletion of natural resources. Offering practical steps that we can take to heal ourselves and our fragmented world, author Daniel Grauer explores the use of sacred tools and technologies, such as natural psychedelics, meditation, and yoga, in order to reestablish an ideology of unity, work in symbiotic harmony with the Earth, and restore our world as a sustainable and prosperous whole. Grauer explains how individuals--and by extension societies--benefit from safely accessing transcendent states of consciousness, such as those provided by psychedelics. He explores how psychoactive substances have been used throughout history all over the world for healing, personal growth, spiritual development, and revealing hidden truths, such as in the Eleusinian Mysteries, Soma practices in Vedic India, and rituals in several South American indigenous cultures. Drawing on the plant intelligence work of Paul Stamets and Stephen Buhner, Grauer shows that the growth of individual and collective intelligence is hindered by the prohibition of psychedelics, which naturally foster humanity’s capacity for analysis, innovation, and cooperation. In addition to creating a sense of unity with all things, psychedelics offer the mind a new perspective from which to analyze its experience and heighten its awareness. Drawing on his own experience and research, Grauer provides guidelines for how to safely use natural plant/fungi psychedelics in order to access the unified consciousness of our ancestors and induce the states of awareness we need to restore natural harmony to our world.

Book The Restoration of Engravings Drawings Books and Other Works on Paper

Download or read book The Restoration of Engravings Drawings Books and Other Works on Paper written by Max Schweidler and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 2006 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since its original publication in Germany in 1938, Max Schweidler's Die Instandetzung von Kupferstichen, Zeichnungen, Buchern usw has been recognized as a seminal modern text on the conservation and restoration of works on paper. To address what he saw as a woeful dearth of relevant literature and in order to assist those who have 'set themselves the goal of preserving cultural treasures, ' the noted German restorer composed a thorough technical manual covering a wide range of specific techniques, including detailed instructions on how to execute structural repairs and alterations that, if skilfully done, can be virtually undetectable. By the mid-twentieth century, curators and conservators of graphic arts, discovering a nearly invisible repair in an old master print or drawing, might comment that the object had been 'Schweidlerized.' This volume, based on the authoritative revised German edition of 1949, makes Schweidler's work available in English for the first time, in a meticulously edited and annotated critical edition. The editor's introduction places the work in its historical context and probes the philosophical issues the book raises, while some two hundred annotati

Book A Dream Map to the Sixth Sun

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Dream Map to the Sixth Sun Restoring Harmony and Balance to our Lives is the only tool kit you will need for entering into the age of the Sixth Sun. Set your computer aside, leave your tablet behind. All you will need is your sharpened senses to awaken from the dream of life and enter into a rich period of creativity and personal power. The Sixth Sun is upon us now as promised by the sages of the early Mesoamerican cultures from time immemorial. The lived experience of indigenous people includes sound, color, felt sensations, travel through multiple dimensions, and the presence of other beings, not readily accepted as normal, natural, or real in dominant cultural reality. The era of the Sixth Sun is the doorway through which the feminine comes into its power and reclaims its rightful domain of strength. Redefining what the feminine means for us today is the task that is presented to us. With an Introduction, utilization of dreams, legends of goddesses and gods and history, portraits of the three women of this narrative emerge that tell a story of time travel, discovery of sacred gifts, and meetings with ancestors that interact in proactive ways in their lives. The window to the feminine era opened on December 21, 2012 and emboldens us to manifest the areas of our lives that yearn for expression and recognition.
