Book Co operation Contestation and Complexity in Peacebuilding

Download or read book Co operation Contestation and Complexity in Peacebuilding written by Nadine Ansorg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-30 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Security Sector Reform (SSR) remains a key feature of peacebuilding interventions and is usually undertaken by a state alongside national and international partners. External actors engaged in SSR tend to follow a normative agenda that often has little regard for the context in post-conflict societies. Despite recurrent criticism, SSR practices of international organisations and bilateral donors often remain focused on state institutions, and often do not sufficiently attend to alternative providers of security or existing normative frameworks of security. This edited collection explores three aspects that add an important piece to the puzzle of what constitutes effective Security Sector Reform (SSR). First, the variation of norm adoption, norm contestation and norm imposition in post-conflict countries that might explain the mixed results in terms of peacebuilding. Second, the multitude of different security actors within and beyond the state which often leads to multiple patterns of co-operation and contestation within reform programmes. Third, how both the multiplicity of and tension between norms and actors further complicate efforts to build peace or, as complexity theory would posit, influence the complex and non-linear social system that is the conflict-affected environment. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding.

Book Conflict Security and Justice

Book The United Nations Organization

Download or read book The United Nations Organization written by Tatah Mentan and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2020-05-19 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saving succeeding generations from the scourge of war was the main motivation for creating the United Nations. Given the ongoing conflicts, wars and terrorist attacks today one is forced to ask: Is there Hope for International Peace and Security? Where have the safeguards gone to? Has the United Nations become powerless in the face of absence of the safeguards? In this book, Professor Tatah Mentan examines the transformation in UN peace and security operations, analysing its changing role and structure. Tatah Mentan argues that the enemy of peace and security in the global system is the dictatorship of predatory bailed out monopoly capitalism that tells us that building war ships is more important than building alternate energy infrastructure. The real enemies are therefore the publicly bailed-out monopolies, Big Media, Big Pharma, Big Oil, the Military Industrial Complex, etc. that deny the truth about conflicts and insecurity. As he emphasises, the enemies are those who refuse to think critically, not being intellectually curious, and accepting the supremacist, fascist, and misgovernance that is reducing the world collectively to being cogs in a diabolical machine of neoliberal global capitalism.

Book Handbook of Electronic Security and Digital Forensics

Download or read book Handbook of Electronic Security and Digital Forensics written by Hamid Jahankhani and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The widespread use of information and communications technology (ICT) has created a global platform for the exchange of ideas, goods and services, the benefits of which are enormous. However, it has also created boundless opportunities for fraud and deception. Cybercrime is one of the biggest growth industries around the globe, whether it is in the form of violation of company policies, fraud, hate crime, extremism, or terrorism. It is therefore paramount that the security industry raises its game to combat these threats. Today's top priority is to use computer technology to fight computer crime, as our commonwealth is protected by firewalls rather than firepower. This is an issue of global importance as new technologies have provided a world of opportunity for criminals. This book is a compilation of the collaboration between the researchers and practitioners in the security field; and provides a comprehensive literature on current and future e-security needs across applications, implementation, testing or investigative techniques, judicial processes and criminal intelligence. The intended audience includes members in academia, the public and private sectors, students and those who are interested in and will benefit from this handbook.

Book Gender Peace and Security in Africa

Download or read book Gender Peace and Security in Africa written by Cheryl Hendricks and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is often a moment in time that acts as a rallying point around a particular issue. 2015 was one of those moments for women, peace and security as numerous landmark anniversaries were celebrated in the field. Africa has, in many ways, been the global laboratory for the gender, peace and security agenda, not only because of the number of conflicts occurring on the continent but also because African regional organisations, governments and civil society organisations have been at the forefront of striving for gender equality and implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325. This book explores gender, peace and security in Africa from multiple angles, including: the conceptual and implementation challenges and shifts around women, peace and security in Africa over the last 15 years; women’s role as combatants in national liberation forces in South Africa; the dynamics of gender in the military through the lens of Kenyan women combatants; food security through a feminist lens; and a series of case studies on the nexus between gender and security in Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Madagascar, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya and Somalia. This book was previously published as a special issue of the African Security Review.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Untapped Power provides extensive insight into why and how to advance diversity, equity and inclusion when promoting development, and addressing fragility and violent conflict. Urgent challenges relating to diversity and inclusion are universal. The global #MeToo and #BlackLivesMatter movements as well as the push for LGBTQ+ rights are all emblematic of a growing interest in and focus on how to better embrace and capitalize on diversity. Yet these social movements exist alongside renewed efforts to constrain minority rights and stem immigration around the world. In Untapped Power, Carla Koppell has assembled a leading group of scholars, policy makers, researchers, and activists to provide a comprehensive overview for understanding and navigating these countervailing forces, so that we can build a more peaceful and inclusive world. This book synthesizes theory, research, and analysis to show why an enduring global commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential, and how to advance that agenda in practical terms. It considers major scholarly theories and analytical frameworks underlying the case for a focus on diversity and inclusion; analyzes diversity trends and movements for inclusion; outlines specific strategies and approaches for promoting inclusion throughout peacebuilding and development processes; and discusses priorities to advance the agenda through research, advocacy, financial investments, and programming. A guide to one of the most pressing issues in world politics, this book will be essential for anyone working in the fields of global development, conflict resolution, or peace building.
