Book Responsive Performance Management Works

Download or read book Responsive Performance Management Works written by Parth Sarathi and published by Rudra Publications. This book was released on with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performance management is an evolving field of management and merely making it excellence driven is not adequate in the emerging VUCA environment. No doubt, Agile Performance management is the need of the day, but many organizations may not find it feasible to go for it all of a sudden. There are a number of conceptual and process requirements, which an organization can prepare in a planned manner. This book devotes its efforts on enhancing readiness to go for a truly Agile Performance management. Therefore, a viable option is to go for a Responsive PMS. The core of responsiveness appears to be the ability to sense the implicit and explicit needs of others and responding quickly and positively for satisfaction of needs. The mechanisms or components of Responsive Performance management may not be entirely new, perhaps these are the familiar ones, but the meaning, aim, emphasis and treatment may be different. Seven components have been identified - Performance planning, Performance enabling, Performance appraisal, Performance Feedback, counseling and identification of training & development needs, Rewards & reinforcement, and Potential appraisal. In addition, a number of related concepts and practices have been described. This book, giving examples of real-life working of PMS, has brought immense clarity on the issues involved. The performance improvement interventions have been dealt in depth. The multidisciplinary background of the author has brought a formidable blend of theory and practice on one hand and content and process on the other. Strong analytical skills of Industrial engineering and systems, deep insights in to Human process skills within a strong framework of Human Resource management, Human resource development , and Organizational development have enabled a unique treatment to traditional and emerging aspects of Performance management . In addition to the 12 Chapters, eight Appendices, several figures, formats and tables are expected to facilitate easy understanding and encouragement to experiment with evolving appropriate and novel interventions.

Download or read book Responsive Mentoring written by Parth Sarathi and published by BFC Publications. This book was released on 2023-12-08 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mentoring plays a very effective role in the current environment, which is described as VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous). In order to cope with this environment, organizations have to be responsive, and for this, people in the organization have to be responsive. A responsive person quickly reacts to people or events and shows emotions such as pleasure and affection spontaneously while working with or for people. A responsive leader is driven to understand people and enhance their readiness to appropriately react or respond. Such leaders, equipped with the necessary competencies, can mentor others to transform them to become responsive. Therefore, such leaders and mentors can trigger a multiplying effect in the organization to create many more mentors like them. Mentoring gives one the opportunity to use one’s valuable possessions (knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, and other attributes) respectfully in developing others. Nothing gives such a strong boost to one’s self-esteem and experience of self-actualization, as seeing the achievements of those, in whose development, he/she has invested. Responsive mentors put others first and care about their needs. This builds goodwill, strengthens relationships, and cultivates trust and mutual concern. Mentoring cannot be understood and practiced in isolation, it is very closely related to a few other interventions like Coaching, Feedback, Counseling, and Pygmalion. A number of appropriate behavioral skills help mentoring unleash its tremendous potential. This book, conceived after over 50 years of managerial experience in diverse fields, especially in developing people and organizations, is a valuable resource for being an exemplary mentor and also encouraging and developing others to become responsive and also become mentors. The process has been so vividly described that any organization can initiate mentoring smoothly. Written in simple language, with a formidable blend of theory and practice on one hand and content and process on the other, this book will be highly beneficial to mentors, mentees, line managers, HR/HRD professionals, management faculty, teachers, and trainers.

Book Performance Management for Agile Organizations

Download or read book Performance Management for Agile Organizations written by Tim Baker and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-14 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Baker takes on eight dysfunctional people management practices originating from the scientific management and offers practical solutions for changing these practices and increasing organizational agility. Agile is the new black. Every business now has to be adaptive, nimble and ready to pivot – managers have to be comfortable with ambiguity and constantly ready for change. And yet... While agility is regarded as essential for competitive advantage, most organizations are still unthinkingly applying people management practices, rooted in Frederick Taylor’s scientific management philosophy of the early 20th century, designed to ensure consistency and efficiency on production lines but which actively prevent the sort of creativity and flexibility needed in the modern workplace. 100 years of scientific management has led to the creation of eight performance myths. Myths that impede the agility necessary to compete in the age of the knowledge worker but which are so instinctively embedded in management psyche that they go unchallenged despite the fact that the changing world of work has rendered them dysfunctional and counterproductive. Through case studies and examples Baker demonstrates how the right workplace culture for promoting and applying agile decision-making consists of eight values shared by employer and employee – values that are polar opposite of the values and assumptions of traditional management styles. A new psychological contract that enables the collaborative working relationship necessary for agility to flourish.

Book Making Government Work

Download or read book Making Government Work written by Katherine Barrett and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-12-24 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Barrett and Greene present evolving theories of performance management, the practices necessary for a good performance-based government, and the pitfalls that can easily be encountered along the way—andhow to avoid them. As performance management has evolved, it has encompassed many different tools and approaches including measurement, data analysis, evidence-based management, process improvement, research and evaluation. In the past, many of the efforts to improve performance in government have been fragmented, separated into silos and labeled with a variety of different names including performance-based budgeting, performance-informed management, managing for results and so on. Making Government Work: The Promises and Pitfalls of Performance-Informed Management by Katherine Barrett and Rich Greene is loaded with dozens of stories of what practitioners are currently working on—what’s working and what’s not. The benefits are ample, so are the challenges. This book describes both, along with practical steps taken by practitioners to make government work better. Readers will discover that while the authors strive to meet the documentation standards of carefully vetted academic papers, the approach they take is journalistic. Over the last year, Barrett and Greene talked to scores of state and local officials, as well as academics and other national experts to find out how performance management tools and approaches have changed, and what is coming in the near-term future. Performance management has been in a state of evolution for decades now, and so Barrett and Greene have endeavored to capture the state of the world as it is today. By detailing both the challenges and conquests of performance management in Making Government Work: The Promises and Pitfalls of Performance-Informed Management, Barrett and Greene ensure readers will find the kind of balanced information that is helpful to both academics and practitioners—and that can move the field forward.
