Book Response of Millet to Nitrogen and Irrigation

Download or read book Response of Millet to Nitrogen and Irrigation written by Wesley G. Smith and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much work has been done on the problem of incorporating weather into crop production functions. This has been especially true at the aggregate level as economists have attempted to explain the effects of weather to technology on increases of agricultural output over time. At the micro level, agronomists and economists have also attempted to explain variation in yields between years as a function of weather in agronomic experiments where the same treatments have been applied over a number of years. The use of simulation in this study represents an extension of agronomic-economic research techniques to allow fertilizer recommendations to be expressed on a probability basis.

Book Response of Pearl Millet to Irrigation Nitrogen and Phosphorus

Download or read book Response of Pearl Millet to Irrigation Nitrogen and Phosphorus written by H. M. Bhuva and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-04 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br. emend. Stuntz] commonly known as bajra, is an important drought hardy millet crop basically cultivated in the arid and semi-arid areas on light textured sandy soils. It is a dual purpose crop, grains are used for human consumption and its fodder as cattle feed. Pearl millet grains are eaten cooked like rice or 'chapattis' are prepared out of flour like wheat or maize flour and also used as feed for poultry and green fodder or dry karbi for cattle. India is the largest producer of pearl millet with an annual production of 10.05 million tonnes from an area of 8.69 million ha and productivity of 1156 kg ha-1. Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are the major pearl millet growing states. Scientific scheduling of irrigation is a technique for determining the quantity of irrigation water, which also aim at optimizing crop yield with the maximum water use efficiency and ensures minimum deterioration of the soil and crop.

Book Practical Applications of Agricultural System Models to Optimize the Use of Limited Water

Download or read book Practical Applications of Agricultural System Models to Optimize the Use of Limited Water written by Lajpat R. Ahuja and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-01-22 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Completely devoted to applicati on of models to opti mize the use of limited water and nutrients in various climates, this collecti on will inspire confi dence in the capacity of modeling to tackle the biggest threats to secure agriculture. To obtain the most producti on from available water while maintaining natural resources, we need whole system–based quanti tati ve knowledge and tools to help select appropriate crops and manage water and associated inputs on a site-specifi c basis under changing climate. Site-specifi c experimental results are available for limited locati ons, limited periods of ti me, and limited management opti ons. Well-tested process models of cropping systems can extend fi eld research results to long-term weather conditi ons, as well as other climates and soils, allowing us to explore new management opti ons. The case studies in this volume are promising examples of these kinds of soluti ons.

Book Modeling Processes and Their Interactions in Cropping Systems

Download or read book Modeling Processes and Their Interactions in Cropping Systems written by Lajpat R. Ahuja and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-08-09 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling Processes and Their Interactions in Cropping Systems A complete discussion of soil-plant-climate-management processes In Modeling Processes and Their Interactions in Cropping Systems: Challenges for the 21st Century, a team of distinguished researchers delivers a comprehensive and up-to-date scientific textbook devoted to teaching the modeling of soil-plant-climate-management processes at the upper undergraduate and graduate levels. The book emphasizes the new opportunities and paradigms available to modern lab and field researchers and aims to improve their understanding and quantification of individual processes and their interactions. The book helps readers quantify field research results in terms of the fundamental theory and concepts broadly generalizable beyond specific sites, as well as predict experimental results from knowledge of the fundamental factors that determine the environment and plant growth in different climates. Readers will also discover: An introduction to water and chemical transport in the soil matrix and macropores Explorations of heat transport, water balance, snowpack, and soil freezing Discussions of merging machine learning with APSIM models to improve the evaluation of the impact of climate extremes on wheat yields in Australia Examinations of the quantification and modeling of management effects on soil properties, including discussions of tillage, reconsolidation, crop residues, and crop management The book will be essential reading for anyone interested in the 2030 breakthroughs in agriculture identified by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

Book Agroclimatology

Download or read book Agroclimatology written by Jerry L. Hatfield and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-01-22 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can we unlock resilience to climate stress by better understanding linkages between the environment and biological systems? Agroclimatology allows us to explore how different processes determine plant response to climate and how climate drives the distribution of crops and their productivity. Editors Jerry L. Hatfield, Mannava V.K. Sivakumar, and John H. Prueger have taken a comprehensive view of agroclimatology to assist and challenge researchers in this important area of study. Major themes include: principles of energy exchange and climatology, understanding climate change and agriculture, linkages of specific biological systems to climatology, the context of pests and diseases, methods of agroclimatology, and the application of agroclimatic principles to problem-solving in agriculture.

Questions it addresses include: Will we be able to produce enough food to meet the increasing dietary needs and wants of the additional two billion people expected to inhabit our planet by 2050? Will we be able to meet the need for so much more food while simultaneously reducing adverse environmental effects of today’s agriculture practices? Will we be able to produce the additional food using less land and water than we use now? These are among the most important challenges that face our planet in the coming decades. The broad themes of food systems and people, agriculture and the environment, the science of agriculture, agricultural products, and agricultural production systems are covered in more than 200 separate chapters of this work. The book provides information that serves as the foundation for discussion of the food and environment challenges of the world. An international group of highly respected authors addresses these issues from a global perspective and provides the background, references, and linkages for further exploration of each of topics of this comprehensive work.
