This book was released on 2015-01-29 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulses are considered as life blood of agriculture because they occupy a unique position almost in all cropping systems as main, catch, cover, green manure, intercrop and its inclusion in crop rotation, thereby, kept the soil alive and productive. They enrich the soil fertility in terms of addition of organic matter and nitrogen through biological nitrogen fixation through Rhizobia. India is the largest producer and consumer of pulses in the world, contributing around 25% of the total global production. Field pea (Pisum sativum L.) is an important popular pulse crop of India. Weeds are big constraints in crop production and responsible for heavy yield losses. It is well known fact that weeds are the biggest menace for crops. Herbicides used alone or in combination with other weed management techniques reduce weed crop competition and the risk of weeds growing unchecked in period of adverse weather or soil condition. Taking note of the facts highlighted above, a field experiment was conducted to evaluate integrated weed management practices in field pea.

It originated in four possible centers i.e., Abyssinia, Mediterranean, Near Eastern and Central Asian regions. However, the present day commercial pea cultivars are the result of hybridization in England in 1778 by (Gender et al. 1972).The total area under cultivation of peas during 2006 in NWFP was 1.1 thousand hectares while in Pakistan 90.3 thousand hectare. During the same year the production of peas in NWFP was 0.7 thousand tons and in Pakistan 52.4 thousand tons. The yield matter ha-1 in kg was 636 in NWFP and 580 in Pakistan in (MINFALL, 2007).weed management is largely involves manipulating farming practices to suppress weed growth and production, while promoting the development of the desired plant. Well recognized aspects of cultural control include, Preventing the spread of weeds between fields or sites, Rotating crops and pastures, Encouraging the competitiveness of desired species, Soil Solarization, Timed Plantings and Harvests, Other cultural control.

Book Weed Crop Competition

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the past 20 years, the first edition of this text has been widely cited as authoritative academic reference. The latest edition continues the tradition set by the original book, and covers weed science research that has been published since 1980. This book aims to reduce the instance of research duplication—saving scientists and supporting institutions time and money. Not only does the second edition of Weed Crop Competition review, summarize, and combine current research; it critiques the research as well. This text has the potential to accelerate advancements in weed crop competition, which remains an important factor that affects crop yields. Scientists in foreign countries where access to literature is often limited or nonexistent, will find the information in this text invaluable. Weed scientists, crop scientists, plant ecologists, sustainable agriculturists, and organic agriculturists will be well-pleased with this long overdue and much needed new editionWeed Crop Competition provides a unique reference that reviews, summarises and synthesizes the literature published concerning research on this topic. The first edition has been one of the most frequently cited sources in weed science for the past 20 years. The second edition covers the significant body of literature that has been published since 1980. Originally intended to survey existing research, the intent of the book is to reduce the instance of research duplication, thus saving scientists and their institutions time and money, and expediting advancements in weed crop competition, an important factor affecting crop yields. Scientists in foreign countries where access to the literature is often limited or non-existent, find the information an invaluable resource.
