Book The Response of Improved Lentils to P Application on Vertisols

Download or read book The Response of Improved Lentils to P Application on Vertisols written by Tesfahun Woldesellasei and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When considering profitable agriculture from a practical perspective, the factors affecting plant growth and harvestable productivity are the utmost important. A number of factors, such as genetics, environment and irrigation management, affect yields independently and through their interactions. Knowledge of these factors, the interactions, and how to manipulate them make it possible for the farm operation to maximize the return. Of course, all are not under the control of the grower. However, crop nutrition and soil fertility can be managed for good yields and production efficiency The performance of improved lentils to vertisols of Haramaya and their response to phosphorus application were studied, accordingly different performance of the varieties to the agroecology as well as different response to Phosphorus were observed. The varieties' maximum yield was also recorded in different rate of P application and few of plant characters were behave differently due to P. it seems, different varieties will be recommended based on availability of the nutrient in interest (P).

Download or read book Breeding for Stress Tolerance in Cool Season Food Legumes written by K. B. Singh and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ICARDA focuses its research efforts on areas with a dry summer, where precipitation in winter ranges from 200 mm to 600 mm. The Center has a global responsibility for the improvement of barley, lentil and faba bean, and a regional responsibility - in West Asia and North Africa - for the improvement of wheat chickpea and pasture and forage crops and the associated farming systems. Much of ICARDA's research is carried out on a 948-hectare farm at its headquarters at Tel Hadya, about 35 km south-west of Aleppo. ICARDA also manages other sites where it tests material under a variety of agroecological conditions in Syria and Lebanon. However, the full scope of ICARDA's activities can be appreciated only when account is taken of the cooperative research carried out with many countries in West Asia and North Africa.
