Download or read book Resources Centres in Scottish Schools written by David D. Hamilton and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A survey of 152 Scottish primary and secondary schools was conducted in 1982 to determine the extent of development, organization, and services of school library resources centers. Teachers and school librarians from 129 schools replied to the questionnaire, with 124 respondents indicating the presence of a resources center in their school. Information was collected on the organization of book and non-book materials within the entire school; the presence of a catalog of library and/or school resources; the availability of areas for preparation of resources, study areas, and reprographic equipment; the links existing between school resources centers; and the knowledge that schools have of the holdings of other centers in their district. It was found that school resources centers in Scotland do not exist in the abundance that was presumed prior to this study, regardless of whether findings were compared with a model definition of a resources center developed by Norman Beswick, or considered independently of established criteria for resources centers. This report describes survey methodology and findings and also discusses the definition of the term "resources center." A 23-item bibliography, a sample questionnaire, and a summary of respondents' comments on the questionnaire are also provided. (ESR)

Download or read book Class Rules written by James McEnaney and published by Luath Press Ltd. This book was released on 2021-09-08 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every single person in Scotland has some kind of stake in the effectiveness of the nation's schools, so in writing this book my goal was to explain the intricacies and inconsistencies of the system, and to explore its strengths and weaknesses, in a way that would make sense to as many people as possible. How much do we really know about the state of Scottish education? Why do inequalities continue to dictate the school experiences of children across the country? What can be done to address the problems in the school system? James McEnaney does what he claims pundits and politicians cannot or will not do... tell the truth about Scottish schools. Class Rules makes the key issues and information surrounding Scotland's education system accessible to all. McEnaney delves into the successes and failures of the Curriculum for Excellence, interrogates the rhetoric around closing the 'attainment gap' between the richest and poorest pupils, and considers the impact of the global Covid-19 pandemic. Most importantly, this book also looks to the future to ask what changes can be made to improve the system for young people across the country, and is a must-read for anyone interested in the future of schools in Scotland.

Book excerpt: International Congresses on Mathematical Education (ICMEs), under the auspices of the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction, are held every four years. Previous Congresses have been held in France (Lyons), England (Exeter), the Federal Republic of Germany (Karlsruhe), and the United States of America (Berkeley). The Fifth International Congress on Mathematical Education (lCME 5) was held in Adelaide, Australia, from August 24-30, 1984. More than 1800 participants from over 70 countries participated in the Congress, while some additional 200 people attended social functions and excursions. The program for ICME 5 was planned and structured by an International Program Committee, and implemented by the National Program Committee in Australia. For the main body of the program, Chief Organisers, assisted by Australian Coordinators, were invited to plan and prepare the individual components of the program which addressed a wide range of topics and interest areas. Each of these teams involved many individuals from around the world in the detailed planning and preparation of the working sessions for their area of program responsibility. For the actual working sessions at the Congress, the smallest group had some 60 members, while the largest had well over 300. In addition to the working sessions, there were three major plenary addresses, several specially invited presentations, and over 420 individual papers in the form of short communications, either as posters or brief talks.
