Download or read book Design Implementation and Analysis of Next Generation Optical Networks Emerging Research and Opportunities written by Imtiaz, Waqas Ahmed and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2019-07-05 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the end of the decade, approximately 50 billion devices will be connected over the internet using multiple services such as online gaming, ultra-high definition videos, and 5G mobile services. The associated data traffic demand in both fixed and mobile networks is increasing dramatically, causing network operators to have to migrate the existing optical networks towards next-generation solutions. The main challenge within this development stems from network operators having difficulties finding cost-effective next-generation optical network solutions that can match future high capacity demand in terms of data, reach, and the number of subscribers to support multiple network services on a common network infrastructure. Design, Implementation, and Analysis of Next Generation Optical Networks: Emerging Research and Opportunities is an essential reference source that discusses the next generation of high capacity passive optical access networks (PON) in terms of design, implementation, and analysis and offers a complete reference of technology solutions for next-generation optical networks. Featuring research on topics such as artificial intelligence, electromagnetic interface, and wireless communication, this book is ideally designed for researchers, engineers, scientists, and students interested in understanding, designing, and analyzing the next generation of optical networks.

Book Elastic Optical Networks

Download or read book Elastic Optical Networks written by Bijoy Chatterjee and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-05-12 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth in communications and internet has changed our way of life, and our requirement for communication bandwidth. Optical networks can enable us to meet the continued demands for this bandwidth, although conventional optical networks struggle in achieving this, due to the limitation of the electrical bandwidth barrier. Flexgrid technology is a promising solution for future high-speed network design. To promote an efficient and scalable implementation of elastic optical technology in the telecommunications infrastructure, many challenging issues related to routing and spectrum allocation (RSA), resource utilization, fault management and quality of service provisioning must be addressed. This book reviews the development of elastic optical networks (EONs), and addresses RSA problems with spectrum fragment issues, which degrade the quality of service provisioning. The book starts with a brief introduction to optical fiber transmission system, and then provides an overview of the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), and WDM optical networks. It discusses the limitations of conventional WDM optical networks, and discusses how EONs overcome these limitations. It presents the architecture of the EONs and its operation principle. To complete the discussion of network architecture, this book focuses on the different node architectures, and compares their performance in terms of scalability and flexibility. It reviews and classifies different RSA approaches, including their pros and cons. It focuses on different aspects related to RSA. The spectrum fragmentation is a serious issue in EONs, which needs to be managed. The book explains the fragmentation problem in EONs, discusses, and analyzes the major conventional spectrum allocation policies in terms of the fragmentation effect in a network. The taxonomies of the fragmentation management approaches are presented along with different node architectures. State-of-the-art fragmentation management approaches are looked at. A useful feature of this book is that it provides mathematical modeling and analyzes theoretical computational complexity for different problems in elastic optical networks. Finally, this book addresses the research challenges and open issues in EONs and provides future directions for future research.

Book Handbook of Optimization in Complex Networks

Download or read book Handbook of Optimization in Complex Networks written by My T. Thai and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-11-25 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complex Social Networks is a newly emerging (hot) topic with applications in a variety of domains, such as communication networks, engineering networks, social networks, and biological networks. In the last decade, there has been an explosive growth of research on complex real-world networks, a theme that is becoming pervasive in many disciplines, ranging from mathematics and computer science to the social and biological sciences. Optimization of complex communication networks requires a deep understanding of the interplay between the dynamics of the physical network and the information dynamics within the network. Although there are a few books addressing social networks or complex networks, none of them has specially focused on the optimization perspective of studying these networks. This book provides the basic theory of complex networks with several new mathematical approaches and optimization techniques to design and analyze dynamic complex networks. A wide range of applications and optimization problems derived from research areas such as cellular and molecular chemistry, operations research, brain physiology, epidemiology, and ecology.

Book Performance Analysis of Traffic Groomed Optical Networks

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Traffic Groomed Optical Networks written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) has emerged as a viable solution to the increasing bandwidth demands of current backbone networks. Traffic grooming allows the resources available on a single wavelength to be utilized by multiple traffic streams. These networks will support large amounts of traffic from various sources. In view of this, our research focuses on the analysis of such types of networks, and in particular on a traffic-groomed tandem optical network that supports multiple sources each with unique resource requirements. We developed a decomposition algorithm for the analysis of this network using a modified version of Courtois' method. This work was extended to analyze tandem networks with a large number of wavelengths and resources per wavelength using a modified version of the recursion developed by Nilsson et. al. Finally, we extended our work to a traffic-groomed tandem optical network employing alternate routing and supporting traffic from multiple sources. For each method, numerical results show that, overall, our approximation provides good accuracy.

Abstract: Abstract of thesis entitled " Novel Resource Allocation Schemes in Optical Burst Switching Networks" submitted by Li Guangming for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at The University of Hong Kong in September 2006 Optical communication systems will play an important role in the next generation network. At present, there are three major candidate solutions for optical communication systems based on wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) technology: optical circuit switching (OCS), optical packet switching (OPS), and optical burst switching (OBS). Given the limitations of current optical processing capability and lack of practical optical buffers, OBS is considered to be the top choice for the next generation network in the near term since it is more efficient than OCS in terms of wavelength utilization efficiency and it does not require the technological breakthroughs needed to make OPS a reality. The main objective of our research is to develop novel resource allocation schemes to improve network performance in OBS networks. We start with a comprehensive review of existing research in OBS networks. We then present the relationships between network performance and network parameters in OBS networks, and provide the guidelines for choosing variousreservation schemes and scheduling algorithms in OBS networks. Switching constraint resolutions are proposed to alleviate the negative effects due to switching configuration time. Next, we propose a window-based reservation scheme and the use of regional controllers to reduce burst contentions. The advantage of using regional controllers and the window-based reservation scheme is that they can be implemented in a generic OBS network and only increase the electronic processing. Simulations show that the proposed schemes can improve network performance even if the network is heavily loaded. Then, we propose a straightforward reservation scheme, dynamic offset, in OBS networks with fiber delay lines (FDLs). Simulations show that the proposed scheme has lower loss probability than the general scheme. We further study the problem of dimensioning fiber delay lines and present the impacts of their parameters on network performance. Finally, we propose a delayed reservation decision scheme in OBS networks with FDLs. Simulations show that the proposed scheme can improve network performance compared with existing schemes.
