Book Echoes Resounding from the Past

Download or read book Echoes Resounding from the Past written by Cheryl Freier and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-12-23 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In essence, the most important word one will ever understand is truth, but within those five letters is a timeless mystery that has confounded philosophers, theologians, and sages throughout the centuries. What is truth? Who defines it? Who protects it? What the Nazis did to in the last century cannot be changed, and day by day, new information challenges the worlds definition of truth in times of war. In 1943, when the Nazis came to take the Jews to camps during the siege of Slovakia, a man by the name of Joseph Frier arranged to have his four sons taken to a place of safety. There, the boys hid in fear for their very lives and were forced to make impossible decisions just to survive. Martin, the authors husband, was one of those boys. Against the overwhelming scale of human cruelty of those days, it is important to remember and celebrate smaller human stories of kindness, courage, and integrity. During the Nazi occupation of Europe, fearful and weak men and women traded their souls to the devil. In this pitch-black part of world history, there were men and women who became champions of the truth and became heroes in the eyes of G-d forever. In remembering those who perished during this war, we pray for their souls as we remember our forefathers, Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, and our women patriarchs Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah. Throughout human history, countless faceless champions emerged when needed. Sadly, for every hero, there were also those who succumbed to their baser, more cowardly impulses of self-preservation at any cost. Echoes Resounding from the Past celebrates the truth of what it means to be a hero.

Book Sound effects

  • Author : Laura Jayne Wright

Download or read book Sound effects written by Laura Jayne Wright and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2023-06-27 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows that the sounds of the early modern stage do not only signify but are also significant. Sounds are weighted with meaning, offering a complex system of allusions. Playwrights such as Jonson and Shakespeare developed increasingly experimental soundscapes, from the storms of King Lear (1605) and Pericles (1607) to the explosive laboratory of The Alchemist (1610). Yet, sound is dependent on the subjectivity of listeners; this book is conscious of the complex relationship between sound as made and sound as heard. Sound effects should not resound from scene to scene without examination, any more than a pun can be reshaped in dialogue without acknowledgement of its shifting connotations. This book listens to sound as a rhetorical device, able to penetrate the ears and persuade the mind, to influence and to affect.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry and short story. A tribute book for missing flight MH370 for their families. A riveting book of poetry for those facing grief and loss because a loved one has left without s goodbye. It is also a special tribute book for those families seeking peace and closure. Reviews Margaret Rose Francis's latest collection of poems, 'When Doves Fly' is not only pure pleasure to read, but also a shining example of empathy for the innocents whose lives were lost or taken on Malaysian Airlines flights MH370, MH17 and in other such catastrophes and atrocities. Like the spirits of these lost ones, and on their behalf, Ms. Francis's words fly like doves back to comfort and console the loves, who must now live their lives in sorrow and mourning. But out of the sorrow, sentiments of hope come soaring, so that there's always the promise of the dawning of a bright new morning. A book to truly treasure, read and re-read. Dean Johns - Freelance Writer Australia I don't read a lot of poetry but these are very good in my opinion. Very easy to read and well balanced. Bradley Hosington - Columbus, Ohio Deeply saddens and really hurts inside. These are very good poems based on true stories of flight MH370. I love to read them again and again. Book The Psalms Volume 2 Psalms 1 50

Download or read book The Psalms Volume 2 Psalms 1 50 written by Christopher Ash and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2024-07-09 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Commentary from Christopher Ash Sets Out a Deeply Christian Study of Psalms 1–50 While reading Psalms, it is common for commentaries to focus on Old Testament meaning, without connecting it deeply to Christ's fulfillment in the New Testament. By studying Scripture this way, believers miss out on the fullness of God's word. The key to experiencing authentically Christian worship is learning a Christ-focused approach to praying and singing the Psalms. In this thorough commentary, Christopher Ash provides a careful treatment of Psalms 1–50, examining each psalm's significance to David and the other psalmists, to Jesus during his earthly ministry, and to the church of Christ in every age. Ash includes introductory quotations, a deep analysis of the text's structure and vocabulary, and a closing reflection and response, along with selected quotations from older readings of the Psalms. Perfect for pastors, Bible teachers, and students, this commentary helps readers sing and pray the Psalms with Christ in view. Exhaustive: Christopher Ash's exegesis explores how the Psalms are quoted and echoed throughout the New Testament Applicable and Heartfelt: Explains how a Christ-centered approach to reading the Psalms influences doctrines of prayer, prophecy, the Trinity, ecclesiology, and more Ideal for Pastors and Serious Students of Scripture: Written for Bible teachers, Sunday school and youth leaders, and small-group leaders

Download or read book Carpentaria written by Alexis Wright and published by New Directions Publishing. This book was released on 2024-02-06 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alexis Wright’s award-winning classic Carpentaria: “a swelling, heaving tsunami of a novel—stinging, sinuous, salted with outrageous humor, sweetened by spiraling lyricism” (The Australian) Carpentaria is an epic of the Gulf country of northwestern Queensland, Australia. Its portrait of life in the precariously settled coastal town of Desperance centers on the powerful Phantom family, leader of the Westend Pricklebush people, and its battles with old Joseph Midnight’s renegade Eastend mob, on the one hand, and with the white officials of Uptown and the nearby rapacious, ecologically disastrous Gurfurrit mine on the other. Wright’s masterful novel teems with extraordinary characters—the outcast savior Elias Smith, the religious zealot Mozzie Fishman, the murderous mayor Bruiser, the moth-ridden Captain Nicoli Finn, the activist Will Phantom, and above all, the rulers of the family, the queen of the garbage dump and the fish-embalming king of time: Angel Day and Normal Phantom—who stand like giants in a storm-swept world. Wright’s storytelling is operatic and surreal: a blend of myth and scripture, politics and farce. She has a narrative gift for remaking reality itself, altering along her way, as if casually, the perception of what a novel can do with the inside of the reader's mind. Carpentaria is “an epic, exhilarating, unsettling novel” (Wall Street Journal) that is not to be missed.
