Book Multiphoton Ionization of Laser Desorbed Neutral Molecules in a Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometer

Download or read book Multiphoton Ionization of Laser Desorbed Neutral Molecules in a Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometer written by Jeffrey A. Zimmerman and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resonant multiphoton ionization of laser desorbed non-volatile samples has been achieved in a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer (FTICR). The detection of iron at the 100 parts-per-million doping level in an indium phosphide compound semiconductor sample and the production of molecular ions for a hexapeptide have been observed in a modified FTICR analyzer cell. A unique three laser experiment has been devised in which infrared muliphoton dissociation of laser desorbed dipeptide ions, formed by resonant multiphoton ionization of laser desorbed neutrals, is performed. Multiphoton ionization (MPI), Laser desorption, Semiconductor materials, Trace analysis, Peptide sequencing, Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry. (JG).

Book Lanthanide Probes in Life Chemical and Earth Sciences

Download or read book Lanthanide Probes in Life Chemical and Earth Sciences written by J.-C. G. Bünzli and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lanthanide elements were first used some thirty years ago in the optical glass industry, followed shortly by their use as NMR shift reagents in organic chemistry. Since then, the application of lanthanides in studies of organic and biochemical systems by use of their NMR and spectroscopic properties has created a rapidly growing interest in the physics and chemistry of these elements. Their use in industrial catalysts, electronic and optical components, high-temperature superconductors, in medicine as X-ray intensifying materials, relaxation agents for imaging techniques or radioisotopes for pharmaceutical applications, have combined with their utilisation in science as probes of a wide variety of phenomena giving them a prominent place in modern science. In this book, leading experts describe the various facets of the application of lanthanides as probes in life, chemical and earth sciences. The aim is to provide guidance to scientists who may wish to use the unique advantages of lanthanide probes in their own fields. To supplement the chapters on the basic concepts of the application of lanthanides, chapters are provided on the basic chemistry of these elements and on the synthetic and analytical aspects of lanthanides and their compounds. The book thus provides a great deal of useful information which will no doubt assist scientists in using these fascinating and valuable elements in their research.

Book Trace Analysis By Mass Spectrometry

Download or read book Trace Analysis By Mass Spectrometry written by Arthur J. Ahearn and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trace Analysis by Mass Spectrometry deals with trace analysis of solids and liquids by mass spectrometric techniques. Topics include the physics and techniques of electrical discharge ion sources, transmission of ions through double focusing mass spectrometers, and detection and measurement of ions by ion-sensitive plates. The ion sources used are principally electrical discharge type sources. This book is comprised of 14 chapters. The first several chapters focus on the basic physics of electrical discharge ion sources, double focusing mass spectrometry, and the measurement of arrays of mass resolved ion beams by electrical detection methods and with ion sensitive emulsions. The discussion then shifts to the problem of obtaining the chemical composition of the recorded mass resolved ion sample and relating this composition to that of the original sample. The chapters that follow describe specific techniques for analyzing special samples such as insulators, powders, microsamples, biological materials, reactive and low melting point substances, radioactive materials, and gases in solids. The remaining chapters include the use of laser ion sources in the analysis of solids and the analysis of surfaces particularly with sputter ion sources. This book will be of interest to students and practitioners of physics and chemistry.
