Book Principles of Seed Pathology 1987

Download or read book Principles of Seed Pathology 1987 written by V. K. Agarwal and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book was written to serve those interested in seed pathology. It is designed to serve as a textbook as well as a reference book for students, teachers, and researchers, and for seed health testing, seed production, and plant quarantine personnel. It is to be used as a guide to the literature. Much of the illustrative material has come from the authors' files used for teaching or from their own research. Teachers will want to supplement this book with examples from their own experience and research ot with information and data from other seed pathology programs. The authors hope that this book, in addition to being of value to seed and plant pathologists, will be useful to agriculturalists interested in crop production. It was written in part to stimulate research in seed pathology and its importance to the role of seedborne inoculum in the epidemiology and control of plant diseases.

Book Advances in Microbial Ecology

Download or read book Advances in Microbial Ecology written by M. Alexander and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The substantial and impressive changes in microbial ecology can scarcely be chronicled in a meaningful fashion, and a review series such as Advances in Microbial Ecology can thus not do justice to the numerous studies that have been published in recent years. On the other hand, the mere existence of this series bears testimony to the many and diverse activities. The growing concern with microbial communities and processes in natural ecosystems is not restricted to scientists in one region and is not limited to particular groups of organisms or to individual theoretical or applied problems. The recent and successful international symposium on microbial ecology held in New Zealand-sponsored in part by the International Commission on Microbial Ecology, as is the Advances-and the general microbiology and ecology conferences and congresses have included reports from investigators from all corners of the globe and have explored both new and traditional areas, agricultural and public health problems, individual species and complex communities, and heterotrophs and autotrophs as well as ecosystem models relying on mathematical concepts and environmental processes needing sophisticated chemistry for their definition. The reviews in the present volume thus can offer only a minute sampling of the multitude of topics being actively explored at the present time. Two of the reviews focus attention on biogeochemical cycles regulated by microorganisms, in particular the way these organisms contribute to or control the levels and identities of chemical substances in the atmosphere. The chapter by Y. Dommergues, L. W. Belser, and E. L.

Book Pesticide Interactions in Crop Production

Download or read book Pesticide Interactions in Crop Production written by J. Altman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pesticide Interactions in Crop Production: Beneficial and Deleterious Effects evaluates the effects of pesticides on plants by exploring the physical, chemical, biological, and ecological interactions of pesticides that influence a crop. The effects of pesticides on the environment and on the crop pests themselves are considered as well. Specific topics addressed include iatrogenic responses, the fate of pesticides applied to cereals under field conditions, the persistance of pesticides on target crops, the effect of pesticides on soil symbionts, and the role of ecological agriculture on conventional and organic cropping systems. Pesticide Interactions in Crop Production: Beneficial and Deleterious Effects will be an important volume for agriculturalists, phytologists, mycologists, soil biologists, plant pathologists, tropical ecologists, arboriculturalists, and other researchers interested in the effects of pesticides on crops and soil.

  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-11-11
  • ISBN : 3662131870

Download or read book The Prokaryotes written by M.P. Starr and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 1276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose ofthis brief Foreword is to make you, the reader, hungry for the scientific feast that follows. These two volumes on the prokary otes offer a truly unique scientific menu-a comprehensive assembly of articles, exhibiting the biochemical depth and remarkable physiological and morphological diversity of prokaryote life. The size of the volumes might initially discourage the unprepared mind from being attracted to the study of prokaryote life, for this landmark assemblage thoroughly documents the wealth of present knowledge. But in confronting the reader with the state of the art, the Handbook also defines where new work needs to be done on well-studied bacteria as well as on unusual or poorly studied organisms. There are basically two ways of doing research with microbes. A classical approach is first to define the phenomenon to be studied and then to select the organism accordingly. Another way is to choose a specific organism and go where it leads. The pursuit of an unusual microbe brings out the latent hunter in all of us. The intellectual chal lenges of the chase frequently test our ingenuity to the limit. Sometimes the quarry repeatedly escapes, but the final capture is indeed a wonder ful experience. For many of us, these simple rewards are sufficiently gratifying so that we have chosen to spend our scientific lives studying these unusual creatures.
