Gunther and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-12 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: That residues of pestieide and other "foreign" chemieals in foodstuffs are of eoneern to everyone everywhere is amply attested by the reeeption aeeorded previous volumes of "Residue Reviews" and by the gratifying enthusiasm, sineerity, and efforts shown by all the individuals from whom manuseripts have been solieited. Despite much propaganda to the eontrary, there ean never be any serious question that pest-eontrol chemieals and food additive chemieals are essential to adequate food produetion, manufaeture, marketing, and storage, yet without eontinuing surveillanee and intelligent eontrol some of those that persist in our foodstuffs eould at times eoneeivably endanger the publie health. Ensuring safety-in-use of these many chemieals is adynamie challenge, for established ones are eontinually being displaeed by newly developed ones more aeeeptable to food technologists, pharma eologists, toxieologists, and changing pest-eontrol requirements in progressive food-produeing eeonomies. These matters are also of genuine eoneern to inereasing numbers of governmental ageneies and legislative bodies around the world, for some of these chemieals have resulted in a few mishaps from improper use. Adequate safety-in-use evaluations of any of these chemie als persisting into our food stuffs are not simple matters, and they ineorporate the eonsidered judgments of many individuals highly trained in a variety of eomplex biologieal, chemieal, food technologieal, medieal, pharmaeologieal, and toxieologieal diseiplines.

  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 1987-02-01

Download or read book Regulating Pesticides in Food written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1987-02-01 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concern about health effects from exposure to pesticides in foods is growing as scientists learn more about the toxic properties of pesticides. The Delaney Clause, a provision of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, prohibits tolerances for any pesticide that causes cancer in test animals or in humans if the pesticide concentrates in processed food or feeds. This volume examines the impacts of the Delaney Clause on agricultural innovation and on the public's dietary exposure to potentially carcinogenic pesticide residues. Four regulatory scenarios are described to illustrate the effects of varying approaches to managing oncogenic pesticide residues in food.

Book Instrumentation for the Detection and Determination of Pesticides and their Residues in Foods

Download or read book Instrumentation for the Detection and Determination of Pesticides and their Residues in Foods written by American Chemical Society and published by Springer-Verlag. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of "Residue Reviews" is to provide concise, critical reviews of timely advances, philosophy, and significant areas of accomplished or needed endeavor in the total field of residues of pesticide and certain other chemicals in foods, feeds, and in transformed food products. During the 144th National Meetings of the American Chemical Society in Los Angeles, California the Pesticides Subdivision of the A.C.S. Division of Agricultural and Food Chemistry on April 1, 1963 sponsored a symposium "Instrumen tation for the Detection and Determination of Pesticides and Their Residues in Foods". With special permission from R.N. HADER and his associates in the American Chemical Society, that symposium is reproduced in this volume of "Residue Reviews" because of its time1iness and significance to pesticide residue analysts everywhere. Without exception the symposium authors accepted my invitation to utilize "Residue Reviews" as their publication medium, and their coopera tion in the extra chore of providing manuscripts conforming to the style requirements of "Residue Reviews" is gratefully acknowledged. Presiding over the two sessions of the symposium were CHARLES L. DUNN and MILTON S. SCHECHTER, whose introductory remarks at that time comprise the foreword to this volume; their enthusiastic assistance both in organizing the symposium and in achieving this final product is warmly a pprecia ted.
