Book Crops Residue Management

Download or read book Crops Residue Management written by J. L. Hatfield and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent changes in the Conservation Compliance Plans for farmers shows the need for improved information on the effective management of crop residues. Residue management requires an understanding of the crop, soil, and climate in which the farming system is located. In this volume, the strategies for effective residue management are described for each region of the country to provide a comparison of the regional differences. The chapters not only describe the knowledge in each region but also suggest some of the needed areas of research required to develop an improved understanding of the processes involved in effective residue management.

Book Crop Residue Management to Reduce Erosion and Improve Soil Quality

Download or read book Crop Residue Management to Reduce Erosion and Improve Soil Quality written by W. C. Moldenhauer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-09 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Crop Residue Management to Reduce Erosion and Improve Soil Quality: Northern Great Plains Soil erosion by wind or water degrades our soils. Besides outrightly removing material from the fertile topsoil, large windstorms or rainstorms selectively remove material high in organic matter and nutrients. The result is surface soil depleted of plant-available nutrients, high in density, and low in porosity and capacity for water intake. Book Crop Residue Management for Conservation

Download or read book Crop Residue Management for Conservation written by and published by American Society of Civil Engineers. This book was released on 1991 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings are a collection of concise and applied papers by farmers, agricultural scientists, extension workers, agricultural engineers and technical representatives. After an introduction a series of useful review papers follows, each covering the present state of crop residue management in the major regions of the U.S.A. Presented papers then consider the use of specialist machinery to till the soil. A final series of papers considers constraints to the adoption of these techniques

Book Managing Agricultural Residues

Download or read book Managing Agricultural Residues written by Paul W. Unger and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-03-16 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many agriculturalists, conservationists, and environmentalists are stressing the importance of sustaining soil productivity so that future generations will have adequate productive land on which to produce food. One significant factor affecting soil productivity is the retention of crop residues on the surface of the soil to help control soil erosion. This book provides a review of the vast amount of literature on the subject, condensing the findings in a comprehensive, easy-to-understand manner. It focuses on topics such as erosion control, crop production in systems involving surface residues, residue use for fuel and animal feed, plant pathogens, insects, soil properties, and the economics of conservation tillage.

Book Soil erosion the greatest challenge for sustainable soil management

Download or read book Soil erosion the greatest challenge for sustainable soil management written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2019-05-16 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite almost a century of research and extension efforts, soil erosion by water, wind and tillage continues to be the greatest threat to soil health and soil ecosystem services in many regions of the world. Our understanding of the physical processes of erosion and the controls on those processes has been firmly established. Nevertheless, some elements remain controversial. It is often these controversial questions that hamper efforts to implement sound erosion control measures in many areas of the world. This book, released in the framework of the Global Symposium on Soil Erosion (15-17 May 2019) reviews the state-of-the-art information related to all topics related to soil erosion.

Book Crop Residue Management Systems

Download or read book Crop Residue Management Systems written by W. R. Oschwald and published by ACSESS. This book was released on 2020-01-22 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The management of croplands has a large impact on the quantity and quality of food and fiber production and on air and water quality, all of which influence the quality of our environment. Management of the nonharvested plant tissues, such as leaves, stems, branches, and roots that constitute the residues from the production of food and fiber, is one of the farm practices that affects crop production via nutrient availability and cycling. Management of these residues also provides opportunities for control of dust in the air and sediments and nutrients in waters through control of soil erosion caused by wind and water. Thus, the task ahead for the management of croplands for improvements in the overall well-being of people involves the application of known effective crop residue management systems to maintain crop production and to reduce wind and water erosion. There is need, as well, for development of more effective management systems through laboratory and field research.

Book Crop Residue Management to Reduce Erosion and Improve Soil Quality

Download or read book Crop Residue Management to Reduce Erosion and Improve Soil Quality written by Robert I. Papendick and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-21 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Crop Residue Management to Reduce Erosion and Improve Soil Quality: Northwest Surface residue cover is known to greatly reduce soil erosion. The percentage of the surface needing residue cover depends on the site and other conservation practices included in a total conservation plan. As residue cover approaches 100 percent, soil erosion approaches 0 percent; with 50 percent residue cover, erosion reduction is about 83 percent; when residue cover is 10 percent, erosion reduction is still about 30 percent.
