Book Urban Air Quality in Europe

Download or read book Urban Air Quality in Europe written by Mar Viana and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-13 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of air quality in urban environments in Europe, focusing on air pollutant emission sources and formation mechanisms, measurement and modeling strategies, and future perspectives. The emission sources described are biomass burning, vehicular traffic, industry and agriculture, but also African dust and long-range transport of pollutants across the European regions. The impact of these emission sources and processes on atmospheric particulate matter, ozone, nitrogen oxides and volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds is discussed and critical areas for particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide in Europe are identified. Finally, this volume presents future perspectives, mainly regarding upcoming air quality monitoring strategies, metrics of interest, such as submicron and nanoparticles, and indoor and outdoor exposure scenarios.

Book Sampling Program for Residential Wood Combustion

Download or read book Sampling Program for Residential Wood Combustion written by Yvette Bonvalot and published by Environment Canada, Québec Region. This book was released on 2000 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In response to findings of a study of health & environmental impacts of air pollution in the Greater Montreal area which identified wood heating as one of the major sources of air pollution in the region, a sampling program was conducted in winter 1998-99 to assess the impact of residential wood burning in Rivière-des-Prairies. This report describes & presents findings of that program. Sampling materials & methods are described and results are presented & analyzed with regard to: levels & sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH); fine particulate matter (PM) & factors affecting observed concentrations; the relationship between PAH & PM values; metals; and volatile organic compounds. Finally, recommendations are made to improve understanding of the issues surrounding wood combustion.

Book Controlling Emissions from Wood Burning

Download or read book Controlling Emissions from Wood Burning written by Thomas Levander and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2014-04-07 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report has been produced by the International Cryosphere Climate Initiative (ICCI) under a grant from the Nordic Council of Ministers under its Arctic Cooperation Program, as part of a pilot project to reduce emissions of black carbon reaching the Arctic from residential heating from wood burning in Nordic countries. The report reviews legislation and other measures in the Nordic countries pertinent to the reduction of particulate matter (PM2.5) and Black Carbon (BC) –soot. It then assesses the effectiveness of the different policy instruments used in the Nordic countries as well as points to measures which may be most effective in reducing emissions of Black Carbon and PM2.5 from wood burning.
