Download or read book Juvenile Sex Offenders written by Camille Gibson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2008-07-30 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the fact that media bombard the public with the notion that sex offenders are everywhere-and could be just next door—official sources show that official sex offense rates have been steadily declining over the past 10 years. Yet, when a juvenile is accused of a sexually-based crime, media attention is swift and relentless. The truth about juvenile sex offenders is often, therefore, misunderstood. In many cases, such offenders are victims themselves. Here, Gibson and Vandiver reveal the truth about juvenile sex offenders and what can be done to help them and to prevent the cycle of abuse that leads to such tragic outcomes. This book sets the records straight about juvenile sex offending. It provides accurate, up-to-date statistics, real life cases, and information about offender characteristics, victim characteristics, family factors, social issues, media involvement, and other related areas. It offers explanations for juvenile sex offending from a variety of perspectives and reviews legal and criminal responses to the problem. Included are discussions of female offenders, punitive measures to prevent repeat offenses, and other steps the federal government and individual states are taking to address the problem. The authors conclude with advice on how to protect children from becoming victims and how to prevent sexual offending in the first place.
Download or read book Case Studies in Sexual Deviance written by William T. O'Donohue and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The assessment and treatment of sexual deviance can be very difficult tasks, and it can be hard to find mentors to provide initial skills training and help in navigating the many complexities of a particular case. This book presents a series of case studies from international experts in the field that depict the evidence-based assessment and treatment of a variety of paraphilias. Intended as learning tools readers can use as models and from which they can gain insight, these case studies are offered as exemplars of clinical problem solving. The authors of each chapter provide research evidence that justifies treatment decisions, explain their assessment strategies and case formulations, and provide information about how to navigate common problems a clinician will encounter, such as denial, poor motivation, and co-morbid problems. A variety of assessment instruments and treatment strategies are also illustrated. Both new and experienced clinicians will find this book to be an invaluable resource in their own work.

It concludes that state laws, regulations, and departmental policies do not require licensing dep¿ts. to consider the criminal background of potential clients, including registered SO, that the licensed facilities plan to serve. State law does not allow SO on parole to reside with other SO in a single-family dwelling that is not a ¿residential facility.¿ However, the report found several instances of 2 or more SO on parole illegally residing in the same hotel room. Moreover, local law enforcement agencies have not performed formal assessments of the impact SO have on their resources and communities, and state laws generally do not require this. Tables.
