Book Patterns of Residential Care

Download or read book Patterns of Residential Care written by Roy D. King and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-10-27 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1971, this title describes a series of studies dealing with the upbringing of children in residential institutions. Most work has been carried out in institutions for children with learning disabilities, although units caring for able but deprived children and children with physical disabilities have also been examined. The investigations have been concerned with the detailed nature of different institutional environments – that is, the routine patterns of daily life in hospital wards, hostels and cottages of children’s homes – rather than with the effects of specific child-rearing practices upon the intellectual, emotional and social development of the children. The more precise delineation of ‘the environment’ is an essential step towards the evaluation of residential services and the interpretation of their effects upon those who use them, yet this is an area which had received little systematic attention from social scientists at the time. This book is a re-issue originally published in 1971. The language used is a reflection of its era and no offence is meant by the Publishers to any reader by this re-publication.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection focuses on child welfare in its specific sense: welfare and social interventions with children and young people undertaken by State bodies or NGO's. In India, to take a contrasting example, it can also refer to major housing and nutrition programmes. This collection takes an inclusive approach to international perspectives. The collection is completed by a new general introduction by the editor, individual volume introductions, and a full index.Titles also available in this series include, Medical Sociology (November 2004, 4 Volumes, 495) and the forthcoming collection Health Care Systems (2005, 3 Volumes, c.395).

Book Social Work in Child Care

Download or read book Social Work in Child Care written by Elisabeth Pugh and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-02-13 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late 1960s the child care service had undergone considerable change, and was to change again after the Seebohm Committee had reported. Yet its central tasks had become clear: preventive work; the reception of children into care, work with them and their parents during the period of care; the selection of foster parents; work with foster parents, and with residential staff; and adoption. Originally published in 1968, the present work devotes a chapter to each of these important tasks, and examines the role of the child care staff within the local authority department at the time, though many of the arguments of the book will also be applicable to the work of the voluntary child care organisations of the day.
