Book Recent Advances in the Modeling of Hydrologic Systems

Download or read book Recent Advances in the Modeling of Hydrologic Systems written by D.S Bowles and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling of the rainfall-runoff process is of both scientific and practical significance. Many of the currently used mathematical models of hydrologic systems were developed a genera tion ago. Much of the effort since then has focused on refining these models rather than on developing new models based on improved scientific understanding. In the past few years, however, a renewed effort has been made to improve both our fundamental understanding of hydrologic processes and to exploit technological advances in computing and remote sensing. It is against this background that the NATO Advanced Study Institute on Recent Advances in the Modeling of Hydrologic Systems was organized. The idea for holding a NATO ASI on this topic grew out of an informal discussion between one of the co-directors and Professor Francisco Nunes-Correia at a previous NATO ASI held at Tucson, Arizona in 1985. The Special Program Panel on Global Transport Mechanisms in the Geo-Sciences of the NATO Scientific Affairs Division agreed to sponsor the ASI and an organizing committee was formed. The committee comprised the co directors, Professor David S. Bowles (U.S.A.) and Professor P. Enda O'Connell (U.K.), and Professor Francisco Nunes-Correia (Portugal), Dr. Donn G. DeCoursey (U.S.A.), and Professor Ezio Todini (Italy).

Book Progress in Modern Hydrology

Download or read book Progress in Modern Hydrology written by John C. Rodda and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrology is vital to human civilisations as well as to natural ecosystems, yet it has only emerged as a distinct scientific discipline during the last 50 years or so. This book reviews the development of modern hydrology primarily through the experiences of the multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers at Wallingford, near Oxford, who have been at the forefront of many of the developments in UK hydrological research. These topics include: • The development of basic understanding through the collection of data with specialised instrumentation in experimental basins • The study of extreme flows – both floods and droughts • The role moisture in the soil • Studies of the processes controlling evaporation • Water resource studies • Modelling and prediction of the extremes of flow improved • Understanding of water quality issues • A widening recognition of the importance of an ecosystem approach • Meeting the challenges of climate change, • Data handling • Future developments in hydrology and the pressures which generate them. Readership: hydrologists in both academia and a wide range of applied fields such as civil engineering, meteorology, geography and physics, as well as advanced students in earth science, environmental science and physical geography programmes worldwide.

Book Lecture Notes On Applied Reservoir Simulation

Download or read book Lecture Notes On Applied Reservoir Simulation written by Leonard F Koederitz and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005-08-15 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reservoir simulation, or modeling, is one of the most powerful techniques currently available to the reservoir engineer. The author, Prof Leonard F Koederitz, (Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus at the University of Missouri-Rolla) is a highly notable author and teacher, with many teaching awards. This book has been developed over his twenty years in teaching to undergraduate petroleum engineering students, with the knowledge that they would in all likelihood be model-users, not developers. Most other books on reservoir simulation deal with simulation theory and development. For this book, however, the author has performed model studies and debugged user problems; while many of these problems were actual model errors (especially early on), a fair number of the discrepancies resulted from a lack of understanding of the simulator capabilities, or inappropriate data manipulation. The book reflects changes in both simulation concepts and philosophy over the years, by staying with “tried and true” simulation practices as well as exploring new methods which could be useful in applied modeling.
