Book High Field Studies on L band Superconducting Cavities at KEK

Download or read book High Field Studies on L band Superconducting Cavities at KEK written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several 1.3 GHz single-cell and nine-cell niobium cavities were fabricated to attain a higher maximum accelerating gradient and to understand the phenomena limiting it. Vertical cold tests at (almost equal to)1.8 K for the 4 single-cell cavities prepared by various surface treatments have been conducted 15 times. In eight of the tests, maximum accelerating gradients (E{sub acc}, max) of more than 14 MV/m were obtained with no field emission. Furthermore, E{sub acc}, max values of higher than 20 MV/m with a high Q0 value of (almost equal to)101° were achieved repeatedly after heat treatment at 1400 degrees C. Once quenching was observed at E{sub acc}, max (14 (almost equal to) 20 MV/m), however, a common phenomenon resulting in Q0-deterioration occurred in every test. The cavity performances and the phenomenon at high fields are reported in this paper.

Book RF Superconductivity for Accelerators

Download or read book RF Superconductivity for Accelerators written by Hasan Padamsee and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-02-26 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces some of the key ideas of this exciting field, using a pedagogic approach, and presents a comprehensive overview of the field. It is divided into four parts. The first part introduces the basic concepts of microwave cavities for particle acceleration. The second part is devoted to the observed behavior of superconducting cavities. In the third part, general issues connected with beam-cavity interaction and the related issues for the critical components are covered. The final part discusses applications of superconducting cavities to frontier accelerators of the future, drawing heavily on the examples that are in their most advanced stage. Each part of the book ends in a Problems section to illustrate and amplify text material as well as draw on example applications of superconducting cavities to existing and future accelerators.

Book Superconducting Technology

Download or read book Superconducting Technology written by Kristian Fossheim and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains an interdisciplinary selection of timely articles which cover a wide range of superconducting technologies ranging from high tech medicine (10-12 Gauss) to multipurpose sensors, microwaves, radio engineering, magnet technology for accelerators, magnetic energy storage, and power transmission on the 109 watt scale. It is aimed primarily at the non-specialist and will be suitable as an introductory course book for those in the relevant fields and related industries. As shown in the title several examples of high-c applications are included. While low-Tc is still the leading technology, for instance, in cables and SQUIDS, case studies in these areas are presented.

Book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering

Download or read book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering written by Peter Kittel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 2054 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oregon Convention Center, Portland, Oregon, was the venue for the 1997 Cryogenic Engineering Conference. The meeting was held jointly with the International Cryogenic Materials Conference. John Barclay, of the University of Victoria, and David Smathers, of Cabot Performance Materials, were conference chairmen. Portland is the home of Northwest Natural Gas, a pioneer in the use of liquid natural gas, and Portland State University, where cryogenic research has long been conducted. The program consisted of 350 CEC papers, considerable more than CEC-95. This was the largest number of papers ever submitted to the CEC. Of these, 263 papers are published here, in Volume 43 of Advances in Cryogenic Engineering. Once again the volume is published in two books. CEC PAPER REVIEW PROCESS Since 1954 Advances in Cryogenic Engineering has been the archival publication of papers presented at the biennial CEC!ICMC conferences. The publication includes invited, unsolicited, and government sponsored research papers in the research areas of cryogenic engineering and applications. All of the papers published must (1) be presented at the conference, (2) pass the peer review process, and (3) report previously unpublished theoretical studies, reviews, or advances in cryogenic engineering.

Book excerpt: The exploration of the subnuclear world is done through increasingly complex experiments covering a wide range of energies and in a large variety of environments OCo from particle accelerators and underground detectors to satellites and space laboratories. For these research programs to succeed, novel techniques, new materials and new instrumentation need to be used in detectors, often on a large scale. Hence, particle physics is at the forefront of technological advancement and leads to numerous applications. Among these, medical applications have a particular importance due to the health and social benefits they bring. This volume reviews the advances made in all technological aspects of current experiments in the field."
