Book Terpenoids and Steroids Volume 9

Download or read book Terpenoids and Steroids Volume 9 written by J. R. Hanson and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 1979 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation. Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 90 years The Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

Book Quantitative Analysis of Steroids

Download or read book Quantitative Analysis of Steroids written by S. Görög and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies in Analytical Chemistry, Volume 5: Quantitative Analysis of Steroids covers the pharmaceutical aspects of the analysis of steroid hormones. This book is divided into nine chapters that examine the biological-clinical analysis of other important groups of steroids, including sterols, vitamin D, bile acids, cardiac glycosides, and sapogenins. The material in the book is classified according to the main groups of steroids, individual chapters being devoted to sex hormones, corticosteroids, sterols, vitamins D, bile acids, cardiac glycosides, sapogenins, and miscellaneous steroids. The structure of each chapter is the same. In section 1 the fundamentals of the chemistry of the group of steroids in question are outlined. Section 2 provides a detailed description of the use of various spectroscopic, chromatographic, protein-binding and other methods, while Section 3 deals with the main problems encountered in the analysis of the group of steroids in question and with their solution using the methods described in Section 2. This book will prove useful to steroid and analytical chemists.

Book Anabolic Steroid Abuse

Download or read book Anabolic Steroid Abuse written by Geraline C. Lin and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1996-07 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addresses the question of whether or not anabolic steroids in themselves possess abuse potential or if they simply play a role in the abuse of other substances. A historical overview of the discovery and development of the drug is provided, plus an evaluation of the drug's performance-enhancing effects. Health risks associated with the abuse of anabolic steroids are covered along with the biological reasons why steroids affect the body the way they do. Behavioral effects are also discussed. Charts, graphs and diagrams.

Book excerpt: Frontiers in Clinical Drug Research – Anti infectives is a book series that brings updated reviews to readers interested in learning about advances in the development of pharmaceutical agents for the treatment of infectious diseases. The scope of the book series covers a range of topics including the chemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology and biochemistry of natural and synthetic drugs employed in the treatment of infectious diseases. Reviews in this series also include research on multi drug resistance and pre-clinical / clinical findings on novel antibiotics, vaccines, antifungal agents and antitubercular agents. Frontiers in Clinical Drug Research – Anti infectives is a valuable resource for pharmaceutical scientists and postgraduate students seeking updated and critically important information for developing clinical trials and devising research plans in the field of anti infective drug discovery and epidemiology. The eighth volume of this series presents comprehensive reviews of interest to readers interested in the treatment of inflammatory diseases, new antiviral agents and strategies, specific antiprotozoal drugs that work against leishmania and helminths, and a study on potential agents against American foulbrood in honey bees. The 7 reviews included in this volume are: - Monoclonal antibodies as therapeutic agents for inflammatory diseases - Pharmacotherapy of emerging antiviral agents - Antiviral activity of vitamin D and COVID-19: current understanding - Anti-infectives to combat leishmaniasis - Anthelmintic drug discovery: current situation and future perspectives - Therapeutic targets for emerging Zika virus infection and vaccines in clinical trials - Agro-industrial waste: new source of raw material for the control of American foulbrood in honey bees.

Book Control of Pig Reproduction

Download or read book Control of Pig Reproduction written by D.J.A. Cole and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-02 with total page 675 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control of Pig Reproduction focuses on carefully evaluated techniques and technologies involved in the control of pig reproduction. The selection first ponders on the sexual development of male pigs, including early fetal, perinatal, and pubertal periods. The text also discusses testicular steroids and boar taint; interrelationships between spermatozoa, female reproductive tract, and egg investments; and artificial insemination. Discussions focus on androgens, estrogens, deposition of semen and uterine transit, sperm regulation and release by the isthmus, and types of artificial insemination. The manuscript examines endocrine control of sexual maturation in female pigs and sexual differentiation of the stimulatory estrogen feedback mechanism and factors affecting the natural attainment of puberty in gilts. Discussions focus on development of ovarian function and gonadal steroid levels; development of the stimulatory estrogen feedback mechanism; and maturation of negative feedback of gonadal steroids. The text also takes a look at controlled induction of puberty, endocrine control of the estrus cycle, and control of ovulation. The selection is a valuable reference for farmers and readers interested in pig reproduction.
