Book Research on Ship Design and Optimization Based on Simulation Based Design SBD Technique

Download or read book Research on Ship Design and Optimization Based on Simulation Based Design SBD Technique written by Bao-Ji Zhang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-30 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ship optimization design is critical to the preliminary design of a ship. With the rapid development of computer technology, the simulation-based design (SBD) technique has been introduced into the field of ship design. Typical SBD consists of three parts: geometric reconstruction; CFD numerical simulation; and optimization. In the context of ship design, these are used to alter the shape of the ship, evaluate the objective function and to assess the hull form space respectively. As such, the SBD technique opens up new opportunities and paves the way for a new method for optimal ship design. This book discusses the problem of optimizing ship’s hulls, highlighting the key technologies of ship optimization design and presenting a series of hull-form optimization platforms. It includes several improved approaches and novel ideas with significant potential in this field

Book Uncertainty Based Ship Design Optimization

Download or read book Uncertainty Based Ship Design Optimization written by Zuyuan Liu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2024-08-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book focused on the basic bottleneck issues in the ship uncertainty-based design optimization. Based on the concepts of robustness and reliability design, uncertainty classification, uncertainty modeling, uncertainty analysis and propagation methods were systematically explained, revealing the influence mechanism and rules of multi-source aleatory and epistemic uncertainty on ship design. Finally, a hull form design optimization method with mixed uncertainty was established. The theory of uncertainty design optimization is not yet mature, and this book gives a detailed introduction. The illustrations and tables in this book compared the differences between uncertainty-based optimization and traditional deterministic optimization, reflecting the advantages of uncertainty optimization. This book will be a useful reference for researchers and engineers in the field of ship design.

Book Risk Based Ship Design

Download or read book Risk Based Ship Design written by Apostolos Papanikolaou and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-04-09 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Risk-based ship design is a new scientific and engineering field of growing interest to researchers, engineers and professionals from various disciplines related to ship design, construction, operation and regulation. The main motivation to use risk-based approaches is twofold: implement a novel ship design which is considered safe but - for some formal, regulatory reason - cannot be approved today and/or rationally optimize an existing design with respect to safety, without compromising on efficiency and performance. It is a clear direction that all future technological and regulatory (International Maritime Organisation) developments regarding ship design and operation will go through risk-based procedures, which are known and well established in other industries (e.g. nuclear, aviation). The present book derives from the knowledge gained in the course of the project SAFEDOR (Design, Operation and Regulation for Safety), an Integrated Project under the 6th framework programme of the European Commission (IP 516278). The book aims to provide an understanding of the fundamentals and details of the integration of risk-based approaches into the ship design process. The book facilitates the transfer of knowledge from recent research work to the wider maritime community and advances scientific approaches dealing with risk-based design and ship safety.

Book Mathematical Optimization Methods Applied to Ship Design

Download or read book Mathematical Optimization Methods Applied to Ship Design written by Reuven Leopold and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Various existing mathematical models of functional optimization and optimization criteria were examined for application to the ship design problem. Based on the study, the Exponential Random Search technique in conjunction with 'Multiple Parameter Weighting Criteria' were used in a sample design study of a cargo ship. Results of the study show that this approach to the ship design problem: (1) yields better results than any other method available at the present time; (2) arrives at a solution in less time than current methods; (3) is more versatile than any other method available; (4) performs the optimization more correctly because it does not neglect any of the features of the problem of optimizing a function of several variables. The demonstrated flexibility, versatility, and efficiency of the chosen method constitute in the author's opinion, a powerful tool in the preliminary design of ships. (Author).

The 2nd Workshop on Global Constrained Optimization and Constraint S- isfaction, COCOS 2003, which took place during November 18–21, 2003 in L- sanne, Switzerland, was dedicated to theoretical, algorithmic, and application oriented advances in answering these questions. Here global optimization refers to ?nding the absolutely best feasible point, while constraint satisfaction refers to?ndingallpossiblefeasiblepoints.AsinCOCOS2002,the?rstsuchworkshop (see the proceeedings [1]), the emphasis was on complete solving techniques for problems involving continuous variables that provide all solutions with full rigor, and on applications which, however, were allowed to have relaxed standards of rigor. The participants used the opportunity to meet experts from global optimi- tion, mathematical programming, constraint programming, and applications, and to present and discuss ongoing work and new directions in the ?eld. Four invited lectures and 20 contributed talks were presented at the workshop. The invited lectures were given by John Hooker (Logic-Based Methods for Global Optimization), Jean-Pierre Merlet (Usual and Unusual Applications of Interval Analysis), Hermann Schichl (The COCONUT Optimization Environment), and Jorge Mor ́ e (Global Optimization Computational Servers). Book Using the Principles of Set based Design to Realize Ship Design Process Improvement

Download or read book Using the Principles of Set based Design to Realize Ship Design Process Improvement written by John Anthony Genta and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set-based design (SBD) is a relatively new complex product development method. Its use has been well researched in the automotive and aerospace industries and, although it requires an upfront investment in resources, it has been shown to reduce design cycle time, later stage rework, total ownership cost, and improve design knowledge capture. The current fiscal environment of the U.S. Government has obligated the Department of Defense to challenge each service to "do more, without more" by finding efficiencies. Since 2005, the U.S. Navy has self-identified ship design as a process improvement priority and embarked in design tool and policy changes which resulted in the "Two Pass / Six Gate" process in 2008. Subsequent U.S. Navy ship design and acquisition actions have presented an opportunity to research and analyze the amenability of SBD, and its proposed benefits, with the U.S. Navy's Two Pass / Six Gate process to realize the efficiencies sought by acquisition executives. The results of this analysis identified that Gates 2 (Analysis of Alternatives) and 3 (Capability Development Document) have the most amenability to the principles and benefits of SBD. An Analysis of Feasibility is provided as an alternative to the current Gate 2 and 3 ship design processes. Executing Gate 2 and 3 ship design activities using the set-based Analysis of Feasibility process produces preferred Cost vs Capability trade-off results while reducing design cycle time and cost. Specific policy recommendations for the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Research, Development and Acquisition) are provided to decree replacement of the current Analysis of Alternatives with the Analysis of Feasibility.
