This book was released on 1988-02-01 with total page 709 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time, a single reference identifies medical technology assessment programs. A valuable guide to the field, this directory contains more than 60 profiles of programs that conduct and report on medical technology assessments. Each profile includes a listing of report citations for that program, and all the reports are indexed under major subject headings. Also included is a cross-listing of technology assessment report citations arranged by type of technology headings, brief descriptions of approximately 70 information sources of potential interest to technology assessors, and addresses and descriptions of 70 organizations with memberships, activities, publications, and other functions relevant to the medical technology assessment community.

Download or read book Technically Speaking written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2002-04-13 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cell phones . . . airbags . . . genetically modified food . . . the Internet. These are all emblems of modern life. You might ask what we would do without them. But an even more interesting question might be what would we do if we had to actually explain how they worked? The United States is riding a whirlwind of technological change. To be sure, there have been periods, such as the late 1800s, when new inventions appeared in society at a comparable rate. But the pace of change today, and its social, economic, and other impacts, are as significant and far reaching as at any other time in history. And it seems that the faster we embrace new technologies, the less we're able to understand them. What is the long-term effect of this galloping technological revolution? In today's new world, it is nothing less than a matter of responsible citizenship to grasp the nature and implications of technology. Technically Speaking provides a blueprint for bringing us all up to speed on the role of technology in our society, including understanding such distinctions as technology versus science and technological literacy versus technical competence. It clearly and decisively explains what it means to be a technologically-literate citizen. The book goes on to explore the context of technological literacyâ€"the social, historical, political, and educational environments. This readable overview highlights specific issues of concern: the state of technological studies in K-12 schools, the reach of the Internet into our homes and lives, and the crucial role of technology in today's economy and workforce. Three case studies of current issuesâ€"car airbags, genetically modified foods, and the California energy crisisâ€"illustrate why ordinary citizens need to understand technology to make responsible decisions. This fascinating book from the National Academy of Engineering is enjoyable to read and filled with contemporary examples. It will be important to anyone interested in understanding how the world around them works.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neural signal processing is a specialized area of signal processing aimed at extracting information or decoding intent from neural signals recorded from the central or peripheral nervous system. This has significant applications in the areas of neuroscience and neural engineering. These applications are famously known in the area of brain–machine interfaces. This book presents recent advances in this flourishing field of neural signal processing with demonstrative applications.
Download or read book Sacred Corridors written by Irena Scott and published by . This book was released on 2018-12-21 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Scott has actually walked down the sacred corridors and hidden passageways where UFO studies took place, when she worked in several crucial UFO investigatory agencies. This inside information contains real documents, not the usual 'informants' stories and legends. It includes hidden studies showing that UFOs really exist, interviews with researchers, taking photographs, obtaining documents, leaked information, informants, and much else. Her smoking gun revelations have already attracted much attention including a possible new Roswell witness, accounts about possible Memory Metal and Elroy John Center, the Cordell Hull report, and many others. She has found many additional smoking guns that are reported here, some with even higher credibility, such as evidence that an alloy company had received a debris sample to analyze and its composition. Her exploration of Wright-Patterson AFB includes interviews of top researchers, photographs showing hidden views and possible tunnels and vaults, bodies in crypts, and a visit to its famous "Blue Room."She obtained actual documents from Project Blue Book studies, showing what took place, interviews with those involved with the studies, opinions of those at the top about UFOs including Battelle Memorial Institute presidents, and other top researchers. She has handwritten documents of scientist and ufologist Dr. J. Allen Hynek that are spontaneous and let the reader get to know the actual person behind his outside veneer shown in his published works. These tell about his many investigations, his opinions, and even contain information about such people as Neil Armstrong and his possible interest in UFO phenomenon.Scott has delved deeply into the legendary roots of UFO study and often found confirmation. She has worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency, Battelle Memorial Institute, and attended conferences at Wright-Patterson AFB.

Download or read book An Introduction to Acoustical Holography written by B. Hildebrand and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first papers by E. N. Leith and J. Upatnieks on the subject of holography appeared in 1961, there has been a virtual explosion of research activity in the field. More than 500 papers and articles on holo graphy have appeared in the last ten years. Many applications of holo graphy have been proposed, and some of these are beginning to enter the realm of usefulness. One of the applications that appears to hold great promise is acoustic imaging by means of holography. The first papers on this subject appeared in 1966, but already research activity in the field is burgeoning. Three symposia wholly devoted to acoustical holography have been held and the papers published in book form. The purposeof this book is to bring together the results of research in acoustical holography, some of it as yet unpublished, under one cover so that workers in holography, nondestructive testing, medical imaging, underwater imaging, and seismic exploration can decide whether this new technique can be useful to them.
