Book CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

Download or read book CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT written by V. Ravi and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-11-25 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Education is concerned with the transmission of knowledge. It is always a deliberate attempt to modify the individual for the better or in terms of what is thought to be desirable. It would be a bad mistake, however, to view this knowledge only in terms of curriculum content; because education transmits other knowledge as well. But it would seem fair to claim that education aims to overcome ignorance. He would also appear that education advocates the principle that it is better to have knowledge than to be ignorant. In other words it is better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a pig satisfied. It is argued that the modern defective curriculum content creates satisfied pigs and increases-ignorance than to overcome it. Therefore, Helvetius states that "Children are born ignorant, not stupid." It is education that makes them stupid. So far as defective curriculum is concerned he is essentially correct.

Book Implementing Educational Policies in Zambia

Download or read book Implementing Educational Policies in Zambia written by Paul Pius Waw Achola and published by Washington, D.C. : World Bank. This book was released on 1990 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the time of independence from Britain in 1964, the educational system in Zambia was, as elsewhere in Africa, racially segregated and heavily biased against Africans. This paper briefly reviews the situation at independence before enumerating post-independence educational policy landmarks through both acts of Parliament and national development plans and related documents. It discusses successes and failures in program implementation as evidenced by internal and external efficiency criteria. Particularly the primary school system has expanded substantially, although there exists little data about internal efficiency. Nevertheless, the young and growing population continues to put pressure on the system -- a doubling of primary school places by the year 2000 would be necessary simply to maintain the present gross enrollment rates. High rates of unemployment, especially after completion of primary and secondary school, point to poor external efficiency. Other factors contributing to problems with the successful implementation of educational policies have been a poor economy, inadequate supply of teachers above the primary level, problems with curriculum relevance, and an entrenched debate about the merits of English language versus native language teaching.

Book Lesson Study based Teacher Education

Download or read book Lesson Study based Teacher Education written by Jongsung Kim and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-05-26 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The philosophy of Lesson Study in Japan—teacher ownership, teacher professionalism, student learning-focused dialogue, teacher collaboration, and teacher professional community—has attracted educators and researchers worldwide. However, Lesson Study does not have the same meaning as its original Japanese expression Jugyou Kenkyuu, a combination of two Japanese words—Jugyou meaning instruction or lesson(s) and Kenkyuu meaning study or research. To bridge the gap between Jugyou Kenkyuu and Lesson Study and therefore maximize the potential of Lesson Study in the world, this edited volume provides two "mirrors" for those who wish to reflect on and implement Lesson Study within their own contexts. One section discusses how Lesson Study is utilized in Japanese teacher education and how this system reproduces the very culture of Lesson Study. The other section addresses case studies showcasing Lesson Study implementation in several countries such as the United States, Germany, Norway, Peru, and Uganda and discusses the opportunities and challenges that arise when Lesson Study-based teacher education expands beyond Japan to the rest of the world. This book will appeal to anyone interested in learning about Lesson Study.
