However, mother nature can be a real pain sometimes. She doesn’t care about anyone’s plans. Today was the day she decided a tornado would be fun. Anya’s life was perfect. She owned her floral shop and the apartment above it. She’d never been happier. Until that siren started blaring and she had to drag a stranger into her storm shelter and the entire city block was leveled. Shaken and dazed, Anya had no place to go. No one to turn to. Larson might have been a surly, reclusive man, but he wasn’t heartless. There was no way he would leave Anya to her own defenses. He had the means and the space to help her. Now all he needed was a dose of self-control. Would it be so bad if he let her lean on him in her time of need?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unidentified floating objects over the U.S.A. force the Holt Agency and Black Swan Team 2 into the frozen Alaskan winter. Kenner Lane grew up struggling in the unforgiving Alaskan interior. He knew what it meant to be freezing cold and how to avoid it. Move away. Joining the Navy the day after high school graduation was step one. Becoming a SEAL was step two. Subzero temperatures for months had been all the motivation he’d needed to earn his Trident. Now medically retired and a Holt Agency employee, he went where they paid him to go. Even if that meant guiding a bunch of women through his godforsaken birth state. Lieutenant Piper Knight always expected the best of herself. She would have made the Olympic swim team but instead took a commission in the United States Navy. She’d been accused of being half fish because of her love of all things water related; swimming, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, even fishing. Completing the Joint All-Female Special Operations School at the top and joining Black Swan Team 2 accomplished her next goals. However, she had never aspired to go to Alaska in the dead of winter, hunting what might be nothing more than a high school science experiment gone wrong. Opposites can attract but can Piper get Kenner past his preconceived notions of women and his loathing of the cold and allow her to warm his heart?

He knew that area of Lake Superior extremely well. He’d take lead of the team this time, they’d find whoever was lost in the National Park, then he’d stay for a week or two, fishing and camping. Sounded like a perfect plan. All Annali Frantz wanted to do for the summer was get away from teenagers, her parents, and Washington D.C. She loved teaching biology to high school students, but she also needed a break from them. For the past two years, her mother had been on a mission to find her the right husband for when her father, the senator, made a run for the White House. Ali, who preferred her nickname, found trout more interesting than politics, the only subject discussed inside the Beltway. Book Global South to the Rescue

Download or read book Global South to the Rescue written by Paul Amar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-02-25 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the first comprehensive analysis of an epochal shift in global order – the fact that global-south countries have taken up leadership roles in peacekeeping missions, humanitarian interventions, and transnational military industries: Brazil has taken charge of the UN military mission in Haiti; Nigeria has deployed peacekeeping troops throughout West Africa; Indonesians have assumed crucial roles in UN Afghanistan operations; Fijians, South Africans, and Chileans have became essential actors in global mercenary firms; Venezuela and its Bolivarian allies have established a framework for "revolutionary" humanitarian interventions; and Turkey, India, Kenya, and Egypt are asserting themselves in bold new ways on the global stage. In this context, this collection sheds critical light on intersections between imperialism and humanitarianism, between neoliberal globalization and "rescue industry" transnationalism, and between patterns of geopolitical hegemony and trajectories of peacekeeping internationalism. These case studies are grouped into three clusters (I) Globalizing Peacekeeper Identities, (II) Assertive "Regional Internationalisms," and (III) Emergent Alternative Paradigms. Together, these articulate a new research agenda and offer significant contributions to fields of global studies, transnational gender and race studies, critical security studies and peace studies, comparative politics, police and military sociology, Third World diplomatic history, and international relations. This book was published as a special issue of Globalizations.

Book The Man Who Saved Sea Turtles

Download or read book The Man Who Saved Sea Turtles written by Frederick R. Davis and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2007-07-02 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Archie Carr, one of the greatest biologists of the twentieth century, played a leading part in finding a new and critical role for natural history and systematics in a post-1950s world dominated by the glamorous science of molecular biology. With the rise of molecular biology came a growing popular awareness of species extinction. Carr championed endangered sea turtles, and his work reflects major shifts in the study of ecology and evolution. A gifted nature writer, his books on the natural history of sea turtles and their habitats in Florida, the Caribbean, and Africa entertained and educated a wide audience. Carr's conservation ethic grew from his field work as well as his friendships with the fishermen who supplied him with many of the stories he retold so engagingly. With Archie Carr as the focus, The Man Who Saved Sea Turtles explores the evolution of the naturalist tradition, biology, and conservation during the twentieth century.
