Book Sexual and Reproductive Health of Adolescents with Disabilities

Download or read book Sexual and Reproductive Health of Adolescents with Disabilities written by Tafadzwa Rugoho and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-12-12 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates various experiences of teaching sexual and reproductive health to adolescents with disabilities. Following the adoption of the UNCRPD, adolescents with disabilities still commonly suffer from widespread violation of their rights particularly concerning sexual and reproductive health – often being viewed as either asexual or hypersexual. Contemporary societies do not readily encourage the participation of these young people in conversations or decision making processes concerning their own sexual and reproductive health. This book delves into such complex issues, critically examining how global communities attempt to teach sexual and reproductive issues to adolescents with disabilities in the modern era.

Book Positive Schooling and Child Development

Download or read book Positive Schooling and Child Development written by Sibnath Deb and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-20 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume discusses the importance of positive schooling in producing responsible and potentially productive adults. Students are generally more motivated to do well and to realize their full potential in schools that have a positive schooling climate, where they feel safe, included and supported. Nevertheless, the reality in today's schools is very different. This volume discusses the major challenges faced by children and adolescents in schools, including problems with curricula, safety issues, lack of inclusive policies, non-availability of teachers, ineffective teaching, insensitivity towards students’ issues, improper evaluation methods, harmful disciplinary measures, and so on. Experts in child psychology and education discuss these issues at length in this volume and offer viable solutions for policymakers, school administrators, teachers and parents to make suitable changes and create a positive atmosphere in educational institutions. This volume further discusses the role of various stakeholders---school principals, teachers, counsellors and psychologists---in addressing these challenges. In addition, it raises other, emerging issues which have not been covered in previous volumes on this topic and offers evidence-based suggestions to address them. The intended readership of the volume is researchers and students of psychology, education, sociology, social work and public health, and school teachers, administrators and teacher-trainers.

Book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 8

Download or read book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 8 written by Donald A. P. Bundy and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2017-11-20 with total page 977 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More children born today will survive to adulthood than at any time in history. It is now time to emphasize health and development in middle childhood and adolescence--developmental phases that are critical to health in adulthood and the next generation. Child and Adolescent Health and Development explores the benefits that accrue from sustained and targeted interventions across the first two decades of life. The volume outlines the investment case for effective, costed, and scalable interventions for low-resource settings, emphasizing the cross-sectoral role of education. This evidence base can guide policy makers in prioritizing actions to promote survival, health, cognition, and physical growth throughout childhood and adolescence.

Book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 2

Download or read book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 2 written by Robert Black and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2016-04-11 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evaluation of reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) by the Disease Control Priorities, Third Edition (DCP3) focuses on maternal conditions, childhood illness, and malnutrition. Specifically, the chapters address acute illness and undernutrition in children, principally under age 5. It also covers maternal mortality, morbidity, stillbirth, and influences to pregnancy and pre-pregnancy. Volume 3 focuses on developments since the publication of DCP2 and will also include the transition to older childhood, in particular, the overlap and commonality with the child development volume. The DCP3 evaluation of these conditions produced three key findings: 1. There is significant difficulty in measuring the burden of key conditions such as unintended pregnancy, unsafe abortion, nonsexually transmitted infections, infertility, and violence against women. 2. Investments in the continuum of care can have significant returns for improved and equitable access, health, poverty, and health systems. 3. There is a large difference in how RMNCH conditions affect different income groups; investments in RMNCH can lessen the disparity in terms of both health and financial risk.

Book Promoting Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health in East and Southern Africa

Download or read book Promoting Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health in East and Southern Africa written by Knut-Inge Klepp and published by Nordiska Afrikainstitutet. This book was released on 2008 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Africa, as in many parts of the world, adolescent reproductive health is a controversial issue for policy makers and programme planners. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to HIV and AIDS and to a host of other problems such as sexually transmitted infection, unwanted pregnancy, unsafe abortions, sexual abuse, female genital mutilation and unsafe circumcision. Yet many countries do not have adolescent health policies in place and much remains to be done to ensure that adolescents can access appropriate sexual and reproductive health services. The authors of this volume present new perspectives and strategies to promote adolescent sexual and reproductive health. In particular, they make a unique attempt to bring together social and biomedical science and to disseminate concrete empirical evidence from existing programmes, carefully analysing what works and what does not at the local level.

Book Comprehensive Sexual Health Education for Adolescents

Download or read book Comprehensive Sexual Health Education for Adolescents written by Dawson K. Oliver and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With adolescents becoming sexually active at ages as young as ten years old there is a documented need for proper education; and to dispel the myths and other inaccurate information that has formed their erroneous knowledge base leading to poor choices. In the United States approximately eight hundred and twenty thousand teenage girls become pregnant each year. The cost of supporting these pregnancies and through the first year of the child's life exceed half a billion dollars per year in a conservative estimate. A less expensive alternative for tax payers would be proper education of our youth. The purpose of this project is to measure the effectiveness of an independently designed reproductive health class on rates of teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection. Adolescent girls ages twelve to eighteen will be the target audience for this program. Presenting material in a format that is reflective of the current time and culture of our youth, up-to-date information regarding sexually transmitted infection, contraceptives, and abstinence can be provided in a comfortable yet protected environment. Several local physicians and registered nurses are in support of this program and have volunteered future time and service. The project start-up costs are minimal, for advertising, materials and supplies would be approximately $1,038.00. Success can easily be measured by the data routinely obtained in the obstetrical department of the hospital.

Book Developing a Comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health Education Model for Adolescents Using Mixed Methods

Download or read book Developing a Comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health Education Model for Adolescents Using Mixed Methods written by Halimah Awang and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This case study is about developing an intervention model to increase students' knowledge on various aspects of sexual and reproductive health. The model consists of 12 modules covering topics, which include physical changes in one's own body from a young age to puberty, sexuality, girl-boy relationships, abstinence, rape, pregnancy, and related laws and legislation. The modules were developed based on Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats analysis of existing sexual and reproductive health education modules currently available in and outside of Malaysia. These modules were then tested by trained facilitators to students, aged 13 to 18, in selected secondary schools in Malaysia in the form of classroom activities which include slide presentation, games, songs, role-play, and group participation. Due to the differences in the time and class allocated by the schools, the modules implemented were selected to suit the ages of the students while ensuring that each student was exposed to at least three modules. The students were grouped into two age groups, namely, 15 years and younger and 16 years and older. To examine the impact of the intervention, the students were asked to answer 22 questions on sexual and reproductive health before the session began and answer the same questions immediately after the session ended. The difference in the proportion of participants with correct answers on sexual and reproductive health knowledge items before and after intervention was assessed using the McNemar test for dependent sample.
