Book Reprobation and God s Sovereignty

Download or read book Reprobation and God s Sovereignty written by Peter Sammons and published by Kregel Publications. This book was released on 2022-01-25 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's right to judge humanity is written on the very fabric of human existence The doctrine of reprobation--that is, the eternal, unconditional decree of God for the non-elect--is frequently misconstrued in both pastoral and theological literature. In Reprobation and God's Sovereignty, Peter Sammons reintroduces this oft-misunderstood doctrine, revealing its relationship to divine sovereignty. With Romans 9 as a guiding text, Sammons presents a thoroughly researched defense of reprobation as an essential part in a Reformed theology that magnifies God and encourages believers to trust in him. Reprobation and God's Sovereignty clearly defines and demonstrates from Scripture the foundational terms and doctrines required for properly understanding reprobation, such as: God's justice Election Compatibilism Secondary causality Preterition Predamnation Understanding these theological ideas proves vital to answering life's all-important question, "Who is God?" Sammons shows how the doctrine of reprobation leads to a greater admiration for God, eliciting higher praise, reverence, and belief in him.

Book Reprobation from Augustine to the Synod of Dort

Download or read book Reprobation from Augustine to the Synod of Dort written by Peter Sammons and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2020-01-20 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the centuries, the Protestant church has been severed into two major positions in regard to predestination and reprobation. On one side, the Arminians largely reject these doctrines, while the reformed readily embrace them as biblical truth. Although much has been written either rejecting or defending the doctrine of reprobation, little attention has been given to the historical development of the reformed position on the nature of reprobation and God's use of secondary causality in the hardening of the wicked. By means of historical analysis, Peter Sammons traces the development of the doctrine of reprobation from Augustine to the Synod of Dort. In this book, Sammons gives special attention to views on reprobation and its various parts, preterition and predamnation, along with how, historically, theologians have attempted to articulate its execution. Perhaps one of the greatest paradoxes in all of Scripture, theology, and philosophy is here addressed: "How does an omnibenevolent and omnipotent God predetermine and interact with sin in the world?" Answering the question proves vital, not merely to reconcile theological and philosophical concerns, but to answer the all-important question of life, "Who is God?" This volume is intended to provide a balanced analysis of the historical and intellectual development within reformed theology as to how God is simultaneously holy and sovereign by examining how reprobation and its parts have historically been defined. Reformed understanding on this doctrine was not done in a vacuum, nor was it concluded in the 180 meetings of the Synod of Dort; rather, it has a history within the church of thoughtful development.

Book John Calvin s View of God s Love and the Doctrine of Reprobation

Download or read book John Calvin s View of God s Love and the Doctrine of Reprobation written by C. Matthew McMahon and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2015-02-10 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A central theme of Christian theology is not only the orthodox doctrine of God as Triune, but the manner in which this Triune God works in the hearts of men as Sovereign Ruler and Supreme King. This work deals with understanding the relationship between God’s love and the reprobation of the wicked, aiding the reader to understand more simply the view of the Reformation’s brightest Reformer, John Calvin (1509-1564), within an otherwise daunting topic. In this analysis of John Calvin’s view of God’s love and the biblical doctrine of reprobation, C. Matthew McMahon (A Puritan’s Mind Founder) explores Calvin’s thoughts concerning reconciling God’s love and the damnation of the reprobate. McMahon explains Calvin’s doctrine of accommodation, centering on understanding the difference between the will of God’s decree and the precepts of God’s word. Also analyzed is Calvin’s view of God’s providence as Supreme Ruler over creation, Calvin’s view of hardening the reprobate’s heart, and his view of the Gospel call when the reprobate are called to repent and believe the Gospel. Annexed to this analysis is an overview and introduction to Calvin’s treatise on reprobation, initially published in 1558 as, “Concerning the Secret Providence of God,” (contained as an appendix to this work) demonstrating articles that Calvin refuted against Sebastian Castellio (1515-1563) who attempted to revile the Reformer and the biblical position of predestination.

Book Sermons on Election Reprobation

Download or read book Sermons on Election Reprobation written by John Calvin and published by Old Paths Publications, Incorporated. This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of sermons from the book of Genesis, deals with an awesome topic that has throughout time been repeatedly misunderstood, unfairly ignored, but most often shamefully denied and taught against. Calvin will cause the reader of these sermons to rightly understand this profound doctrine, to come away with the Biblical truth of the Sovereignty of the Creator, and to understand that God is God and needs not man to excuse or explain away the power of the Potter over the clay as he makes to dishonor the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction.
