Download or read book Physiology Environment and Man written by Douglas H. K. Lee and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physiology, Environment, and Man is based on a symposium conducted by the National Academy of Sciences-National Research Council, August 1966. While one might expect a textbook to present its field in organized and comprehensive fashion, a symposium necessarily follows more of an illustrative pattern, according to the personal interests or even idiosyncrasies of the participants. It is interesting to note that, in spite of these limitations, the presentations did in fact cover the range of physiological concerns with environmental effects, from the genetic to the temporal, and from the molecular to the holistic. The book opens with a discussion of the National Academy of Sciences-National Research Council's broad-based critical study of the physiological underpinning of current concepts of biological responses to toxic chemicals and physical stresses. Subsequent chapters deal with topics such as the metabolic fate of common environmental agents; growth and trophic factors in carcinogenesis; environmental factors in aging and mortality; adaptation to heat and cold; and the definition of an optimum environment.

Download or read book A Working Bibliography on the Effects of Motion on Human Performances written by Aerospace Medical Research Laboratories (U.S.) and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A bibliography compiled from a number of disciplines which bear on the problem of motion and its effects on human performance is presented. Psychophysiological reports in the area of spatial orientation, perception, and receptor mechanisms provide background on the human organism in relation to motion stimuli. The effects of aerospace vehicle motion are represented by a compilation of studies of performance under acceleration, vibration and buffeting, tumbling, and weightlessness. Reports on training and motion simulation, equipment and methodology, and general anlyses of the whole problem area are presented. (Author).
