Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the XXIV General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), held July 2-13, 2007 in Perugia, Italy, the International As- ciation of Geodesy (IAG) also had its quadrennial General Assembly. The IAG - organized and contributed to several Union Symposia, as well as to Joint Symposia with other Associations. It also organized ve Symposia of its own, one dedicated to eachofitsfourCommissionsanda fthonededicatedtotheGlobalGeodeticObse- ing System (GGOS). This volume contains the proceedings of these ve Symposia, which are listed below: Symposium GS001: Reference Frames Convener: H. Drewes Co-convener: A. Dermanis Symposium GS002: Gravity Field Convener: C. Jekeli Co-conveners: U. Marti, S. Okubo, N. Sneeuw, I. Tziavos, G. Vergos, M. Vermeer, P. Visser Symposium GS003: Earth Rotation and Geodynamics Convener: V. Dehant Co-convener: Chengli Huang Symposium GS004: Positioning and Applications Convener: C. Rizos Co-convener: S. Verhagen Symposium GS005: The Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) Conveners: M. Rothacher Co-conveners: R. Neilan, H.-P. Plag The Symposia were organized based on the structure of the IAG (i. e., one per Commission) and covered the there pillars of geodesy, namely geometry, Earth ro- tion, and gravity eld, plus their applications. The inclusion of the Symposium on GGOS - which is no longer a project but a major component of the IAG - integrated all geodetic areas and highlighted the importance of multidisciplinarity in, and for, geodetic research.

Book Navigation Signal Processing for GNSS Software Receivers

Download or read book Navigation Signal Processing for GNSS Software Receivers written by Thomas Pany and published by Artech House. This book was released on 2010 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advancement of software radio technology has provided an opportunity for the design of performance-enhanced GNSS receivers that are more flexible and easier to develop than their FPGA or ASIC based counterparts. Filling a gap in the current literature on the subject, this highly practical resource offers you an in-depth understanding of navigation signal detection and estimation algorithms and their implementation in a software radio. This unique book focuses on high precision applications for GNSS signals and an innovative RTK receiver concept based on difference correlators. You learn how to develop navigation receivers for top performance using basic algorithms, like correlation and tracking, which can be understood on an intuitive level. Additionally, the book provides you with a theoretical framework for signal estimation and detection that gives you the knowledge you need to make performance assessments without building a receiver. The theoretical treatment also gives you hints for choosing optimal algorithms for your projects in the field.

Book Choosing a Map Projection

Download or read book Choosing a Map Projection written by Miljenko Lapaine and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-04 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a much-needed critical approach to the intelligent use of the wide variety of map projections that are rapidly and inexpensively available today. It also discusses the distortions that are immanent in any map projection. A well-chosen map projection is one in which extreme distortions are smaller than those in any other projection used to map the same area and in which the map properties match its purpose. Written by leading experts in the field, including W. Tobler, F.C. Kessler, S.E. Battersby, M.P. Finn, K.C. Clarke, V.S. Tikunov, H. Hargitai, B. Jenny and N. Frančula. This book is designed for use by laymen. The book editors are M. Lapaine and E.L. Usery, Chair and Vice-Chair, respectively, of the ICA Commission on Map Projections for the period 2011-2015.

Book Assessment and Mitigation of Asteroid Impact Hazards

Download or read book Assessment and Mitigation of Asteroid Impact Hazards written by Josep M. Trigo-Rodríguez and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-19 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a compilation of the research presented at the International Asteroid Day workshop which was celebrated at Barcelona on June 30th, 2015. The proceedings discuss the beginning of a new era in the study and exploration of the solar system’s minor bodies. International Asteroid Day commemorates the Tunguska event of June 30th, 1908. The workshop’s goal was to promote the importance of dealing proactively with impact hazards from space. Multidisciplinary experts contributed to this discussion by describing the nature of comets and asteroids along with their offspring, meteoroids. New missions to return material samples of asteroids back to Earth such as Osiris-REx and Hayabusa 2, as well as projects like AIM and DART which will test impact deflection techniques for Potentially Hazardous Asteroids encounters were also covered. The proceedings include both an outreach level to popularize impact hazards and a scientific character which covers the latest knowledge on these topics, as well as offering proposals of promising new techniques that will help gain new insights of the properties of these challenging bodies by studying meteoroids and meteorites. Asteroids, comets, meteoroids and meteorites are introduced with descriptions of their nature, origin, and solar system pathways.

Book Gravity Geoid and Geodynamics 2000

Download or read book Gravity Geoid and Geodynamics 2000 written by Michael G. Sideris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This symposium continued the tradition of mid-term meetings held between the joint symposia of International Geoid and Gravity Commissions. This time, geodynamics was chosen as the third topic to accompany the traditional topics of gravity and geoid. The symposium thus aimed at bringing together geodesists and geophysicists working in the general areas of gravity, geoid and geodynamics. Besides covering the traditional research areas, special attention was paid to the use of geodetic methods for geodynamics studies, dedicated satellite missions, airborne surveys, geodesy and geodynamics of arctic regions, and the integration of geodetic and geophysical information.
