Book excerpt: In 2003, the Manitoba population of Carmine Shiner was legally listed as a?Threatened? species under the Species at Risk Act (SARA). In 2006, COSEWIC re-examined and confirmed the status of the Carmine Shiner as?Threatened? based on an updated status report (COSEWIC 2006). Once a species is listed under the SARA as?Threatened?, a recovery strategy must be developed. The Carmine Shiner Recovery Team developed the first recovery strategy (Fisheries and Oceans Canada 2008) which was posted on the Species at Risk Public Registry in 2008. The recovery strategy was revised and re-posted to the Species at Risk Public Registry in 2013 (Fisheries and Oceans Canada 2013). This report addresses the progress towards meeting the objectives listed in the Recovery Strategy for the Carmine Shiner in Canada, since its publication in 2008.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Carmine Shiner (Notropis percobromus) was listed under the Species at Risk Act (SARA) as Threatened when the Act came into force in 2003. In April 2006, the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) re-assessed and confirmed the designation because it occurs in an extremely restricted area of Manitoba and the major threat to the species is the alteration in water flow as a result of stream regulation. The Science sector in Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) was asked to undertake a Recovery Potential Assessment (RPA); this Research Document supports the RPA. It describes the current state of knowledge of Carmine Shiner in Manitoba in terms of their biology, ecology, abundance, distribution and trends, habitat requirements and threats. A recovery goal, mitigation measures and alternatives to threats and the potential for allowable harm are presented, as is information relevant to critical habitat and residence. The information contained in the RPA and this document may be used to inform the development of recovery documents and to support decision-making with regard to the issue of permits, agreements and related conditions under the SARA."--Document.

This book was released on 2017 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Bridle Shiner has been listed as a species of Special Concern under the Species at Risk Act (SARA) since June 2003. In 2013, the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) reassessed and reconfirmed its status. The Management Plan for the Bridle Shiner (Notropis bifrenatus) in Canada was published in June 2011. Since 2011, the species has been observed in 40 watercourses in Quebec and, in Ontario, in 10 lakes as well as several locations in Lake Ontario and along the St. Lawrence River. Some of these observations represent new locations and broaden the known distribution range, while others confirm that the species is still in watercourses where it has not been observed for many years. Although population numbers are unknown, these observations indicate that the species' situation may be more positive than that portrayed by COSEWIC (2013). Nonetheless, there are still significant stresses, as seen in Lake Saint-Pierre, where large numbers of this species are found. In addition, as COSEWIC (2013) mentioned, the observations made at the new sites most likely do not represent a real increase in the scope of the distribution range and could instead be the result of the sampling efforts at those locations"--Executive summary, p. iv-v.
