Book Report on the Mineral Industry of Egypt 1928 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Report on the Mineral Industry of Egypt 1928 Classic Reprint written by Ma¿la¿at Al-Manaj Wa-Al-Ma¿ajir and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-15 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Report on the Mineral Industry of Egypt, 1928 The area of Egypt is approximately square kilometres, of which square kilometres comprise the cultivated area of the Delta and Valley of the River Nile. The remainder, no less than square kilometres, is desert, for the most part waterless and devoid of vegetation. This desert area has no economic importance at the present day other than its mineral resources. The known mineral deposits are few in comparison with the vastness of the desert area, but much of this is as yet practically unprospected and there is the probability of further discoveries being made. These known deposits are mostly situated at great distances both from one another and from the River Nile, a fact which has retarded exploration and development. Considerable progress has, however, been made during recent years, notably on the coast of the Red Sea and Gulf of Suez. The sea affords the necessary facilities of access and transport, the lack of which so greatly detracts from the value of deposits situated in the interior. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Report on the Mineral Industry of Egypt, 1928 The area of Egypt is approximately 1,000,000 square kilometres, of which 31,000 square kilometres comprise the cultivated area of the Delta and Valley of the River Nile. Local interest in mining is small; this is owing to the fact that the population of Egypt is almost entirely engaged in agricultural pursuits and has no knowledge or experience of mining. The capital and organization of existing enterprises has, in consequence, been mainly supplied by foreigners. The following chapters describe the various minerals, metals and precious stones which are found in Egypt and give details of the progress made in developing them. The value of the mineral production for the year 1921 was approximately L.E. 1,300,000. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mineral Production for 1913 The compilation of accurate and dependable figures is an extremely difficult undertaking, and the State Mineralogist takes the opportunity of here expressing his appreciation of the universal co-operation of the producers in making this work possible. It is the evidence herein put forth that should make us realize the magnitude of our latent mineral resources in this State. The produc tion for the year 1913 of more than one hundred million dollars shows an increase of ten million dollars over that of the preceding year. Coupled with this is the fact that twenty millions of dollars was dis tributed in dividends, resulting from this basic production. This progress is being made despite the fact that some branches of the industry have been held back by various uneconomic conditions and their production is unnecessarily curtailed. Such problems as present themselves in the separate branches of the industry affect all the others and Should be taken care of by the industry as a whole. It is greatly to be deplored that there is no concerted action Of the mineral producers at the present time. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This richly illustrated book offers a concise overview of the geology of Egypt in the context of the geology of the Arab Region and Northeast Africa. An introductory chapter on history of geological research in Egypt sheds much light on the stages before and after the establishment of Egyptian Geological Survey (the second oldest geological survey worldwide), Hume's book and Said's 1962, 1990 books. The book starts with the Precambrian geology of Egypt, in terms of lithostratigraphy and classifications, structural and tectonic framework, crustal evolution and metamorphic belts. A dedicated chapter discusses the Paleozoic-Mesozoic-Cenozoic tectonics and structural evolution of Egypt. A chapter highlights the Red Sea tectonics and the Gulf of Suez and Gulf of Aqaba Rifts. Subsequent chapters address the Phanerozoic geology from Paleozoic to Quaternary. The Egyptian Impact Crater(s) and Meteorites are dealt with in a separate chapter. The Earth resources in Egypt, including metallic and non-metallic ore deposits, hydrocarbon and water resources, are given much more attention throughout four chapters. The last chapter addresses the seismicity, seismotectonics and neotectonics of Egypt.

Book Extractive Metallurgy of Niobium

Download or read book Extractive Metallurgy of Niobium written by A.K. Suri and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-13 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growth and development witnessed today in modern science, engineering, and technology owes a heavy debt to the rare, refractory, and reactive metals group, of which niobium is a member. Extractive Metallurgy of Niobium presents a vivid account of the metal through its comprehensive discussions of properties and applications, resources and resource processing, chemical processing and compound preparation, metal extraction, and refining and consolidation. Typical flow sheets adopted in some leading niobium-producing countries for the beneficiation of various niobium sources are presented, and various chemical processes for producing pure forms of niobium intermediates such as chloride, fluoride, and oxide are discussed. The book also explains how to liberate the metal from its intermediates and describes the physico-chemical principles involved. It is an excellent reference for chemical metallurgists, hydrometallurgists, extraction and process metallurgists, and minerals processors. It is also valuable to a wide variety of scientists, engineers, technologists, and students interested in the topic.

Book Industrial Minerals and Their Uses

Download or read book Industrial Minerals and Their Uses written by Peter A. Ciullo and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 1996-12-31 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This multi-authored handbook is a unique cross-industry resource for formulators and compounders, and an invaluable reference for the producers of formulated commodities and industrial minerals. Monographs on each of the common functional industrial mineralsùasbestos, barite, calcium carbonate, diatomite, feldspar, gypsum, hormite, kaolin, mica, nepheline syenite, perlite, pyrophyllite, silica, smectite, talc, vermiculite, wollastonite, and zeoliteùinclude an overview of natural and commercial varieties, market size, and application areas. These are supported by descriptions of mineral structures and the wedding of minerals and chemicals through mineral surface modification. This orientation to the minerals and their uses forms the foundation for chapters where they are presented in the context of the overall technology of various consuming industries. Each of these industry-specific presentations covers both the chemical and mineral raw materials used by the formulator, how these are combined, and relevant test methods. These chapters serve a dual purpose. Each clarifies for technologists the function and value of the mineral constituents of their products. Equally important, they provide a primer on the technology of industries other than their own, so that raw material, formulation, processing and testing considerations can be compared and contrasted. The book concludes with a formulary demonstrating how specific mineral and chemical ingredients are actually compounded in major application areas, and technical data on scores of commercial mineral products.

Book A History of Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry from Prehistory to the End of the Classical Period

Download or read book A History of Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry from Prehistory to the End of the Classical Period written by Robert W. Boyle and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2024-05-01 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since Mendeleev outlined the modern periodic table in 1869, many new uses have been found for the 92 naturally occurring elements. This book travels back in time to describe the utilization of materials familiar (gold, copper, iron) and arcane (arsenic, boron, red ochre) and their practical history (mining, metallurgy and crafts), with evidence from archaeology and geology. Together with the technological developments, author Robert Boyle portrays the advances in our understanding of materials science which led to modern geological and environmental sciences. It is a source book valuable to students of history and archaeology, mining and metallurgy, as well as to geologists, mineralogists and geochemists everywhere.
