Book Report on the Measurement Results of Torsional and Axial Vibrations of the Shafting and Lateral Vibrations of Engines and Turboblowers Taken During Sea Trials on Sept 3th

Download or read book Report on the Measurement Results of Torsional and Axial Vibrations of the Shafting and Lateral Vibrations of Engines and Turboblowers Taken During Sea Trials on Sept 3th written by Sulzer Ltd and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "During the sea trials on 3rd/4th September, 1979, of the M.S. "Canmar Kigoriak", Dome Petroleum Icebreaker, St. John, hull no. 1132, we carried out measurements of torsional and axial vibrations of the shafting and vibration amplitudes of the engines and their turboblowers. The object of the measurements reported here was to check the torsional and axial characteristics of the propulsion unit, especially the level of the vibratory torques in the flexible couplings and in the reduction gear. ... At normal conditions, all cyclinders firing (with fuel), and maximum propeller pitch (M.E.P. according to the propeller law), the recorded torsional vibration amplitudes are higher than the calculated ones, but the additional torsional vibratory torques never exceed the allowable limits, not only in the flexible couplings (engines and shaft-generator starboard and portside) but also in the pinion and gear wheel of the reduction gear. At emergency conditions (both engines in operation), one cylinder without fuel, based on the recorded amplitudes, we recommend the following propeller pitch position in order to keep the vibratory torque in the flexible couplings below the allowable limits: - both shaft-generators engaged, prop. pitch -

Book Vibration Control Engineering

Download or read book Vibration Control Engineering written by Ernesto Novillo and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-12-09 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book applies vibration engineering to turbomachinery, covering installation, maintenance and operation. With a practical approach based on clear theoretical principles and formulas, the book is an essential how-to guide for all professional engineers dealing with vibration issues within turbomachinery. Vibration problems in turbines, large fans, blowers, and other rotating machines are common issues within turbomachinery. Applicable to industries such as oil and gas mining, cement, pharmaceutical and naval engineering, the ability to predict vibration based on frequency spectrum patterns is essential for many professional engineers. In this book, the theory behind vibration is clearly detailed, providing an easy to follow methodology through which to calculate vibration propagation. Describing lateral and torsional vibration and how this impacts turbine shaft integrity, the book uses mechanics of materials theory and formulas alongside the matrix method to provide clear solutions to vibration problems. Additionally, it describes how to carry out a risk assessment of vibration fatigue. Other topics covered include vibration control techniques, the design of passive and active absorbers and rigid, non-rigid and Z foundations. The book will be of interest to professionals working with turbomachinery, naval engineering corps and those working on ISO standards 10816 and 13374. It will also aid mechanical engineering students working on vibration and machine design.
