This book was released on 2018-07-08 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spacecraft depend on electronic components that must perform reliably over missions measured in years and decades. Space radiation is a primary source of degradation, reliability issues, and potentially failure for these electronic components. Although simulation and modeling are valuable for understanding the radiation risk to microelectronics, there is no substitute for testing, and an increased use of commercial-off-the- shelf parts in spacecraft may actually increase requirements for testing, as opposed to simulation and modeling. Testing at the Speed of Light evaluates the nation's current capabilities and future needs for testing the effects of space radiation on microelectronics to ensure mission success and makes recommendations on how to provide effective stewardship of the necessary radiation test infrastructure for the foreseeable future.

Book Space radiation Damage to Electronic Components and Materials

Download or read book Space radiation Damage to Electronic Components and Materials written by J. E. Drennan and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Space radiation damage to electronic components and materials is of increasing concern as the nation's space capability develops. This report is a general compilation of information and is intended for use by electronic design engineers during early design phases, in making 'ballpark' predictions of expected electronic equipment performance in the space radiation environment. Transistors appear to be the electronic components that will limit space electronic equipment life because of degradation in gain caused by exposure to space radiation. Careful attention to experimental design principles and effective development and exploitation of theoretical and empirical models relating device performance to radiation energy, flux, and fluence are needed. Download or read book Spacecraft Environments Interactive written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-06-11 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The natural space environment is characterized by complex and subtle phenomena hostile to spacecraft. Effects of these phenomena impact spacecraft design, development, and operation. Space systems become increasingly susceptible to the space environment as use of composite materials and smaller, faster electronics increases. This trend makes an understanding of space radiation and its effects on electronic systems essential to accomplish overall mission objectives, especially in the current climate of smaller/better/cheaper faster. This primer outlines the radiation environments encountered in space, discusses regions and types of radiation, applies the information to effects that these environments have on electronic systems, addresses design guidelines and system reliability, and stresses the importance of early involvement of radiation specialists in mission planning, system design, and design review (part-by-part verification).Howard, J. Book Radiation Effects And Soft Errors In Integrated Circuits And Electronic Devices

Download or read book Radiation Effects And Soft Errors In Integrated Circuits And Electronic Devices written by Ronald D Schrimpf and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004-07-29 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed treatment of radiation effects in electronic devices, including effects at the material, device, and circuit levels. The emphasis is on transient effects caused by single ionizing particles (single-event effects and soft errors) and effects produced by the cumulative energy deposited by the radiation (total ionizing dose effects). Bipolar (Si and SiGe), metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS), and compound semiconductor technologies are discussed. In addition to considering the specific issues associated with high-performance devices and technologies, the book includes the background material necessary for understanding radiation effects at a more general level.

Book Radiation Effects in Advanced Semiconductor Materials and Devices

Download or read book Radiation Effects in Advanced Semiconductor Materials and Devices written by C. Claeys and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This wide-ranging book summarizes the current knowledge of radiation defects in semiconductors, outlining the shortcomings of present experimental and modelling techniques and giving an outlook on future developments. It also provides information on the application of sensors in nuclear power plants.

Book Effects of Nuclear Radiation on Some Common Materials and Electronics Components

Download or read book Effects of Nuclear Radiation on Some Common Materials and Electronics Components written by Newell Hart Smith and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is based upon a review of many of the documents from the extensive literature on radiation damage, and presents information from the literature concerning radiation damage to a few common materials and to typical electronic equipment. In addition, an example illustrating the way in which this information may be useful for space vehicle design is also given. This report does not contain enough data to satisfy the needs of the detailed designer. However, it is expected that this report will be useful to those locating and shielding equipment used with nuclear propulsion units or with nuclear reactors used to generate electrical power. It may also have some application to the design of hard bases and to anti-missile studies where nuclear explosions are a consideration. Since on the outside of a reactor or nuclear explosion the penetrating nuclear radiation consists of energetic neutrons and gamma rays, only these types of radiation are considered in this report.

Download or read book RADIATION EFFECTS written by LIBRARY OF CONGRESS WASHINGTON D C AEROSPACE TECHNOLOGY DIV. and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a comprehensive report of recent studies on radiation damage to electronic components and materials as reported in the Soviet open literature during the period 1960-1963. In compliance with ATD Work Assignment 65, it is intended to be the first in a continuing review of Soviet findings in this field. The report includes all available Soviet experimental and theoretical material dealing with the formation of temporary and permanent radiation defects in electronic materials and with the experimental techniques used in radiation testing. The pertinent subjects of radiation tests, in the order of their frequency of appearance in the Soviet literature, fall into four broad categories: semiconductors, dielectrics, ferrites, and discrete components. The substantial coverage also given in Soviet radiation literature to related subjects such as metals, alkali halides, and insulating materials, has been arbitrarily omitted as peripheral to the scope of the present task.
