Book Handbook of Hydrology

Download or read book Handbook of Hydrology written by David R. Maidment and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 1993-02-22 with total page 1423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introducing Hydrology's New Benchmark Reference Here's the first book in nearly 30 years to provide comprehensive coverage of the current state of hydrologic knowledge and practice--saving you hours of time tracking down the latest techniques in professional journals. Maidment's Handbook of Hydrology includes the contributions of more than 50 international authorities, who provide you with practical methods of solving problems in every aspect of the field, including the increasing application of geostatistics and computer models. You'll discover more effective ways to. . .mitigate the impact of floods through better urban drainage; assess the water supplies of cities and farming areas; prevent the pollution of natural waters; halt the damaging effects of erosion; protect wilddlife and preserve wetlands; contain and remove contaminants in waterways; and much more.

Book Manual on Estimation of Probable Maximum Precipitation PMP

Download or read book Manual on Estimation of Probable Maximum Precipitation PMP written by World Meteorological Organization and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The manual describes procedure for estimating the maximum probable precipitation and the maximum probable flood. This is the third revised version. The first and second editions of this manual were published in 1973 and 1986, respectively. The current edition keeps a majority of the content from the second edition. Newly added content in this third edition primarily results from experiences, since 1986, in directly estimating PMP for the requirements of a given project in a design watershed on probable maximum flood (PMF) in China, the United States of America, Australia and India.--Publisher's description.

Book GIS Static Storm Model Development

Download or read book GIS Static Storm Model Development written by Francisco Olivera and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rainfall runoff modeling at a watershed scale requires the definition of the storm event and of the conveying characteristics of the watershed. This research project focuses on the geographic definition of the storm event, that is, on the spatial distribution of precipitation over the watershed. As the watershed size increases, the likelihood that a storm will cover the entire watershed decreases, and it becomes necessary to identify which parts of the watershed are affected by the storm and which are not. Traditionally, precipitation estimates have been based on precipitation records obtained at discrete points (i.e., precipitation stations), which led to depth-duration-frequency (DDF) equations or curves. An estimate of the area covered by the storm event, however, has not been included in the analysis, and it has been customary to assume it uniformly distributed over the entire watershed, regardless of its size. Thus far, no model has been developed to map the area of the watershed that is covered by the storm, as well as to determine the spatial distribution of precipitation over this area. Use of NEXRAD precipitation data, however, will allow the development of a model and geographic-information-systems (GIS) based application that relaxes the assumption of uniformly distributed precipitation and estimates the storm precipitation distribution within the watershed.
