This book was released on 2010-12-02 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complexity, diversity, and random nature of transportation problems necessitates a broad analytical toolbox. Describing tools commonly used in the field, Statistical and Econometric Methods for Transportation Data Analysis, Second Edition provides an understanding of a broad range of analytical tools required to solve transportation problems. It includes a wide breadth of examples and case studies covering applications in various aspects of transportation planning, engineering, safety, and economics. After a solid refresher on statistical fundamentals, the book focuses on continuous dependent variable models and count and discrete dependent variable models. Along with an entirely new section on other statistical methods, this edition offers a wealth of new material. New to the Second Edition A subsection on Tobit and censored regressions An explicit treatment of frequency domain time series analysis, including Fourier and wavelets analysis methods New chapter that presents logistic regression commonly used to model binary outcomes New chapter on ordered probability models New chapters on random-parameter models and Bayesian statistical modeling New examples and data sets Each chapter clearly presents fundamental concepts and principles and includes numerous references for those seeking additional technical details and applications. To reinforce a practical understanding of the modeling techniques, the data sets used in the text are offered on the book’s CRC Press web page. PowerPoint and Word presentations for each chapter are also available for download.

Book Effective Experiment Design and Data Analysis in Transportation Research

Download or read book Effective Experiment Design and Data Analysis in Transportation Research written by and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2012 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the factors that should be considered in designing experiments and presents 21 typical transportation examples illustrating the experiment design process, including selection of appropriate statistical tests. The examples encompass a wide range of transportation disciplines and statistical methods. This report will be very beneficial to anyone with limited research experience needing to answer a question based on data (e.g., presenting ozone concentrations in a region, determining whether a contractor's quality assurance/quality control procedures are adequate, estimating the effect of automated enforcement on speeds, monitoring trends in the condition of bridge superstructures, developing a user survey to determine the impact of transit fare changes). The report is a companion to NCHRP CD-22, Scientific Approaches to Transportation Research, Volumes 1 and 2, which were developed in NCHRP Project 20-45 and present detailed information on statistical methods.

Book The Bureau of Transportation Statistics

Download or read book The Bureau of Transportation Statistics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-09-20 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), the nation's newest federal statistical agency, contribute to the work of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)? What is the appropriate role for such an agency as a part of a major department? BTS was authorized in 1991 by the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) in recognition of the need for more and better data for transportation officials at local, state, and federal levels. While the USDOT has many long-standing data collection programs for particular transportation modes (highways, rail, air, etc.), it has never had a statistical agency with a mandate to improve the quality and relevance of transportation data for important system-wide, cross-modal analyses of the nation's transportation system. This book examines how BTS can provide statistical leadership for USDOT, define and maintain quality standards for transportation data, and improve data documentation. It considers BTS's role in developing national transportation indicators, coordinating data collection throughout USDOT, filling gaps, identifying user needs, and developing analysis programs for transportation data. Anyone concerned with having high-quality, relevant transportation indicators and other data available for policy planning, evaluation, and research will be interested in this book, as will students of effective government.

Book Transportation Statistics Annual Report 1994

Download or read book Transportation Statistics Annual Report 1994 written by Rolf R. Schmitt and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transportation Statistics Annual Report is a summary of the state of the transportation system and its consequences, the quality of statistics used to characterize the transportation system, and planned efforts by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) to improve the quality of the statistics. BTS was established by Congress to compile, analyze, and make accessible information on the nation's transportation system; to collect information on intermodal transportation and other related areas as needed; and to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the Department of Transportation's statistical programs through research, the development of guidelines, and the promotion of improvements in data acquisition and use.

Book Transportation Statistics Beyond ISTEA

Download or read book Transportation Statistics Beyond ISTEA written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the years prior to passage of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) of 1991, the quality and quantity of transportation data had reached a low ebb. Many federal data-collection programs had come to an end or had been pared back, reflecting increased costs of traditional methods of data collection, shrinking budgets, and curtailed reporting requirements brough about by economic deregulation. In response to the growing information gap, ISTEA resurrected several key data-collection programs, created the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), and required BTS to identify information needs on an ongoing basis. This report summarizes key transportation information needs based on the Bureau's experience in responding to requests for statistics from decisionmakers, and on surveys, research, and conferences that BTS has held or co-sponsored with other organizations.
