This book was released on 2017-11-09 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Annual Report of the Superintendent of Common Schools of the State of New-York: Made to the Legislature January 30, 1847 In numerous instances, for two years past, these union schools have been formed in different parts of the State, under the most favorable auspices, with every reasonable prospect of being highly advantageous in promoting the objects of their establishment; and hence, we may justly anticipate a gradual reduction in the aggregate of the whole number of districts in the State, so long as this process shall continue. The whole number of common schools in the State, on the first day of July, 1845, as returned by the marshals appointed to take the last census, was exclusive of the city of New York, and the whole number of school districts, having the school houses in the same town, reported by the town superintendents in the other counties, on the first day of J uly, 1846, was the dif ference being 207. The marshals' returns, for July, 1845, exhibited 208 less than the town superintendents' reports of the same date. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Report of the Superintendent of Common Schools, of the State of Maine, 1854 In this summary, committees and supervisors might be included, as well as parents and teachers. Honorable mention could be made Of not a few, who are contributing money, and devoting time, and acquisitions more precious, to the improvement of our Common Schools. Men, without any personal interest in their ad vantages, are laboring, with a zeal, truly commendable, for their perfection. But this representation too, has its reverse. Those intrusted with the examination of teachers, and the whole conduct Of the schools, are, too Often, men incompetent for the proper discharge of their duties. In one large town, with 800 or 900 names on its school-roll, the committee visited the school but twice in two years; in another, the supervisor could judge of the qualifications Of thosesuperman-m'e sure sr. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Report of the Superintendent of Common Schools, to the General Assembly: May Session, 1862 Much credit is due to the committees who made the local arrangements for the institutes and contributed to their success by their constant endeavors to provide all that was necessary. In every place the people threw open their doors for the free entertainment of the teachers, and lecturers and by their cordial sympathy and constant attendance gave additional interest and value to the meetings. Every county has been visited by this instrumentality but Tolland, and the omission in that county was owing to circumstances beyond the control of the superintendent. The absence of an Institute was remedied so far as it could be by an arrangement to have every town visited, and the teachers, school officers and citizens addressed wherever an audience could be gathered. The following is the summary of the Institutes for the past year. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
