Book Transportation Conformity

Download or read book Transportation Conformity written by and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transportation conformity is required under the Clean Air Act (CAA) Section 176(c) to ensure that Federally-supported transportation activities are consistent with (“conform to”) the purpose of a State Implementation Plan (SIP). Transportation conformity establishes the framework for improving air quality to protect public health and the environment. Conformity to the purpose of the SIP means Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funding and approvals are given to highway and transit activities that will not cause new air quality violations, worsen existing air quality violations, or delay timely attainment of the relevant air quality standard, or any interim milestone. This Guide was prepared to help State and local officials understand transportation conformity and how conformity requirements relate to transportation investments in their communities. Specifically, the implications of conformity on metropolitan transportation plans, transportation improvement programs (TIPs), and transportation projects are discussed. The Guide provides overview information on the major elements of the conformity process and provides answers to basic questions. Several exhibits are included in the Guide to illustrate key elements of the conformity process. Appendices are also included that discuss the health effects of pollutants, options to reduce on-road mobile source emissions, and resource agency contacts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third edition of Knoxville, Tennessee: A Mountain City in the New South includes a new preface and a valuable new chapter covering the period from the death of Cas Walker to the end of the administration of Madeline Rogero, Knoxville's first female mayor. Wheeler argues that, until very recently, like Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby (1925), Knoxvillians had fabricated for themselves a false history, portraying themselves and their city as the almost impotent victims of historical forces that they could neither alter nor control. The result of this myth has been a collective mentality of near-helplessness against the powerful forces of isolation, poverty, and even change itself. But Knoxville's past is far more complicated than that, for the city contained abundant material goods and human talent that could have been used to propel Knoxville into the ranks of the premier cities of the New South--if those assets had not slipped through the fingers of both the leaders and the populace. In all, Knoxville's history is the story of colliding forces--country and city, North and South, the poor and the elites as well as the story of colorful figures, including Perez Dickenson, Edward Sanford, George Dempster, Carlene Malone, Bill Haslam, and Madeline Rogero, among many, many more. While challenges related to public health, income inequality, racism, and the environment remain, Wheeler detects the possibility that the myth Knoxvillians have clung to may finally be fading. Downtown development by vibrant local entrepreneurs, a government more responsive than ever before, and an economy that endured a severe economic downturn only to turn out brighter than expected are all symptoms of a Knoxville that may be ready to take its place in the rising urbanism of twenty-first-century America.

Book Hopkins of Virginia and Related Families Classic Reprint

Download or read book Hopkins of Virginia and Related Families Classic Reprint written by Walter Lee Hopkins and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-01-09 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hopkins of Virginia and Related Families Particular attention has been given to the earlier generations and no attempt has been made to give full genealogies of all the families treated in the book. However, a foundation is laid upon which each descendant may build and attach his own line to the main stem of the branches mentioned herein. Due to the frequent duplication of names among contemporaries, the very little which has been printed on the families, and the de struction of many priceless county and private records in Virginia, especially in the eastern part of the state, by the Federal Army during the War Between the States, the work is naturally not free from errors; however, every effort has been made to insureits accuracy. Rl'he reader must bear in mind that the writer is not a genealogist, and that these records were collected during the spare moments of his busy life. It is unlikely that the first edition of any work on genealogy is free from mistakes, for the compiler of a genealogy, to a great extent, must be guided by what the members of the families send him, and this is often incorrect; consequently, the compiler can only be guided by his best judgment, trusting to future historians to discover any errors and to correct them.
