This book was released on 1985 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The barge "Robert Koch" was under tow of the tug "R &L No1" on a passage from Clarkson, Ontario, to Oswego, New York. As the tug was entering Oswego Harbour with the barge on a shortened tow, at 1630, December 15, 1985, the tow line parted. The barge was brought to anchor outside the outer breakwater. At 2245, the barge was observed to move rapidly to the east and, at 2320, the barge grounded in position 43 degrees 28'32"N, 76 degrees 29'56"W. The "Robert Koch" went hard aground, distorting and causing fractures in an estimated seventy-five per cent of her bottom shell plating. It is suspected that further damage will be discovered because of the heavy ice accretion and the cost of salvage and repairs is estimated at somewhat over two million dollars US, while the insured value of the vessel is reported to be approximately a million and a quarter dollars US. There were no injuries as a result of this incident and no pollution was detected.

Book excerpt: On the afternoon of April 14, 1986 the small yarding tug "Gulf Ranger" departed from the Fraser River, North Arm, with the barge "SN 8" in tow. The tug and tow steamed to the spoil ground off Point Grey to dump the barge's cargo of dredged materials. Dumping was done using a front end loader and during the late afternoon, with the unloading of the barge almost completed and only the final clean up remaining to be done, both the front end loader and its operator were lost overboard in apporximately 220 meters of water. A large scale search followed, however, the deckhand who was driving the front end loader remains missing and is presumed drowned.
