Book Testing and Characterization of Sustainable Innovative Bituminous Materials and Systems

Download or read book Testing and Characterization of Sustainable Innovative Bituminous Materials and Systems written by Manfred N. Partl and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-01 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the detailed results of five task groups of the RILEM technical committee TC 237-SIB on Testing and Characterization of Sustainable Innovative Bituminous Materials and Systems. It concentrates on specific new topics in asphalt binder and mixture testing, dealing with new developments in asphalt testing, in particular also in view of new innovative bituminous materials, such as hot and cold recycled mixtures, grid reinforced pavements and recycled Reclaimed Asphalt Pavements (RAP), where test methods developed for traditional asphalt concrete are not a priori applicable. The main objective is providing a basis for pre-standardization by comparing different test methods and showing ways for fundamental improvements. Thus, the book also points the way for a further advanced chemo-physical understanding of materials and their role in pavement systems relying on fundamental material properties and suitable models for describing and predicting the intrinsic mechanisms that determine the material behavior.

Book Bio aggregates Based Building Materials

Download or read book Bio aggregates Based Building Materials written by Sofiane Amziane and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-04 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work of the RILEM Technical Committee (TC -236 BBM) was dedicated to the study of construction materials made from plant particles. It considered the question whether building materials containing as main raw material recyclable and easily available plant particles are renewable. This book includes a state-of-the-art report and an appendix. The state-of-the-art report relates to the description of vegetal aggregates. Then, hygrothermal properties, fire resistance, durability and finally the impact of the variability of the method of production of bio-based concrete are assessed. The appendix is a TC report which presents the experience of a working group. The goal was to define testing methods for the measurement of water absorption, bulk density, particle size distribution, and thermal conductivity of bio aggregates. The work is based on a first round robin test of the TC-BBM where the protocols in use by the different laboratories (labs) are compared. p>

Book Methods of Measuring Moisture in Building Materials and Structures

Download or read book Methods of Measuring Moisture in Building Materials and Structures written by Lars-Olof Nilsson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-13 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: RILEM TC 248-MMB was established in 2012 with the main aim to improve and distribute knowledge related to moisture measurement in construction materials in various scientific and industrial applications. Properties and performance of building materials and structures are influenced to a large extent by the moisture conditions in the materials. Obvious examples are heat conductivity, shrinkage and creep, transport properties, most types of deterioration, discoloration etc. For research and applications the moisture conditions must be quantified, by measurements in the laboratory or under field conditions. There is much variation in methods being used, even within the same topic, in different countries, both with regard to materials and to applications. No consensus whatsoever does exist. For the construction industry it is important to be able to quantify the moisture conditions in an accurate way in various applications. This state-of-the-art report is divided into two parts, Principles and Applications, with altogether 28 chapters on various moisture measuring principles and a number of applications.

Book RILEM Technical Committee 195 DTD Recommendation for Test Methods for AD and TD of Early Age Concrete

Download or read book RILEM Technical Committee 195 DTD Recommendation for Test Methods for AD and TD of Early Age Concrete written by Øyvind Bjøntegaard and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-28 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the Round-Robin (RR) program and test results including a statistical evaluation of the RILEM TC195-DTD committee named “Recommendation for test methods for autogenous deformation (AD) and thermal dilation (TD) of early age concrete”. The task of the committee was to investigate the linear test set-up for AD and TD measurements (Dilation Rigs) in the period from setting to the end of the hardening phase some weeks after. These are the stress-inducing deformations in a hardening concrete structure subjected to restraint conditions. The main task was to carry out an RR program on testing of AD of one concrete at 20 °C isothermal conditions in Dilation Rigs. The concrete part materials were distributed to 10 laboratories (Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and USA), and in total 30 tests on AD were carried out. Some supporting tests were also performed, as well as a smaller RR on cement paste. The committee has worked out a test procedure recommendation which is reported separately and submitted acceptance as a RILEM method.

Book Durability of Strain Hardening Fibre Reinforced Cement Based Composites SHCC

Download or read book Durability of Strain Hardening Fibre Reinforced Cement Based Composites SHCC written by G.P.A.G. Van Zijl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-06 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strain-Hardening Fibre-Reinforced Cement-Based Composites (SHCC) were named after their ability to resist increased tensile force after crack formation, over a significant tensile deformation range. The increased resistance is achieved through effective crack bridging by fibres, across multiple cracks of widths in the micro-range. Whether these small crack widths are maintained under sustained, cyclic or other load paths, and whether the crack width limitation translates into durability through retardation of ingress of moisture, gas and other deleterious matter, are scrutinized in this book by evaluation of test results from several laboratories internationally. The durability of SHCC under mechanical, chemical, thermal and combined actions is considered, both for the composite and the fibre types typically used in SHCC. The compilation of this state-of-the-art report has been an activity of the RILEM TC 208-HFC, Subcommittee 2: Durability, during the committee life 2005-2009.

Book Bonded Cement Based Material Overlays for the Repair the Lining or the Strengthening of Slabs or Pavements

Download or read book Bonded Cement Based Material Overlays for the Repair the Lining or the Strengthening of Slabs or Pavements written by Benoît Bissonnette and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-16 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among different approaches that can be considered for concrete rehabilitation, bonded overlays are often the most economical alternative. The primary purpose of overlays is to extend the life of the candidate structures, either by restoring the quality and integrity of the surface and/or the re-establishing or improving the load-carrying capacity. Nevertheless, the durability of bonded overlay systems still draws concerns in the technical community because of bond sustainability problems encountered in a number of cases. At this time, there is still no accepted design approach or methodology that can warrant the practitioner a successful outcome of the repair. This State-of-Art report summarizes the findings with respect to all aspects involved in the overlaying process.

Book Modelling of Corroding Concrete Structures

Download or read book Modelling of Corroding Concrete Structures written by Carmen Andrade and published by Springer Science & Business Media.
