Download or read book Revival Paul Jones Founder of the American Navy Volume II 1900 written by Augustus C Buell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-01-16 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Paul Jones (born John Paul; July 6, 1747 – July 18, 1792) was the United States' first well known naval commander in the American Revolutionary War, and yet the details of his extraordinary career are little known. His fame, in the broad sense of enduring interest, ranks with that of Washington, Franklin, Jefferson, Hamilton, A dams, and Robert Morris; and, in his own particular province, he stands absolutely alone. To the average student of American history, mention of our Revolutionary Navy instantly suggests the name of Paul Jones, and no other. Yet, notwithstanding such singular distinction as a generality, but little is correctly known in detail as to the actual life and the real character of the man. The daily lives, the individual incidents, and the personal characters of our other very great men in that epoch are as open books. These men spent their lives in our country, and after they had passed away the materials for their histories were left in friendly hands. The reverse was true of Paul Jones. This is one of the rare books written about the life and achievements of this historical figure.
Download or read book Celia a Slave written by Melton A. McLaurin and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2021-12-15 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1991, Celia, a Slave illuminates the moral dilemmas that lie at the heart of a slaveholding society by telling the story of a young slave who was sexually exploited by her enslaver and ultimately executed for his murder. Melton A. McLaurin uses Celia’s story to reveal the tensions that strained the fabric of antebellum southern society by focusing on the role of gender and the manner in which the legal system was used to justify slavery. An important addition to our understanding of the pre–Civil War era, Celia, a Slave is also an intensely compelling narrative of one woman pushed beyond the limits of her endurance by a system that denied her humanity at the most basic level.
Download or read book Why Does God Allow Evil written by Clay Jones and published by Harvest House Publishers. This book was released on 2017-08-01 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "If you are looking for one book to make sense of the problem of evil, this book is for you." Sean McDowell Grasping This Truth Will Change Your View of God Forever If God is good and all-powerful, why doesn't He put a stop to the evil in this world? Christians and non-Christians alike struggle with the concept of a loving God who allows widespread suffering in this life and never-ending punishment in hell. We wrestle with questions such as... Why do bad things happen to good people? Why should we have to pay for Adam's sin? How can eternal judgment be fair? But what if the real problem doesn't start with God...but with us? Clay Jones, an associate professor of Christian apologetics at Biola University, examines what Scripture truly says about the nature of evil and why God allows it. Along the way, he'll help you discover the contrasting abundance of God's grace, the overwhelming joy of heaven, and the extraordinary destiny of believers.

Download or read book Bridging Two Peoples written by Allan Sherwin and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging Two Peoples tells the story of Dr. Peter E. Jones, who in 1866 became one of the first status Indians to obtain a medical doctor degree from a Canadian university. He returned to his southern Ontario reserve and was elected chief and band doctor. As secretary to the Grand Indian Council of Ontario he became a bridge between peoples, conveying the chiefs’ concerns to his political mentor Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald, most importantly during consultations on the Indian Act. The third son of a Mississauga-Ojibwe missionary and his English wife, Peter E. Jones overcame paralytic polio to lead his people forward. He supported the granting of voting rights to Indians and edited Canada’s first Native newspaper to encourage them to vote. Appointed a Federal Indian Agent, a post usually reserved for non-Natives, Jones promoted education and introduced modern public health measures on his reserve. But there was little he could do to stem the ravages of tuberculosis that cemetery records show claimed upwards of 40 per cent of the band. The Jones family included Native and non-Native members who treated each other equally. Jones’s Mississauga grandmother is now honoured for helping survey the province of Ontario. His mother published books and his wife was an early feminist. The appendix describes how Aboriginal grandmothers used herbal medicines and crafted surgical appliances from birchbark.
Download or read book Deal Maker written by Joseph Dean Klatt, PhD and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-12 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book of negotiation stories that apply techniques Dr. Klatt has learned since 1972, the year he began his career as a professional real estate licensee negotiator. They are techniques that were learned in the School of Hard Knocks, the best learning place of all. This book is not intended to be a complete presentation of all areas of negotiation, negotiation practice, or negotiation theory. It is intentionally short on theory and long on stories. It is so much easier (and more fun) to remember stories than theory, and if you remember the story you will be able to work back to the theory. It is a book written for real estate agents, law students, attorneys, mediators, and anyone else for whom negotiations are central to their career. In a sense, this means that this book has been written for us all. For we are all professional negotiators. Dr. Klatt was a strapping San Diego City lifeguard, excellent athlete, competitive surfer, ambidextrous tennis player, and drag racing champion before an accident robbed him of his sight. That was an event that could have broken the spirit of lesser men. Instead, Dr. Klatt turned his physical short-coming into a vector for professional excellence. He went on to sell a portfolio of property that has a present collective value that is easily worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and he did it all without ever laying sight upon one single inch of the property that he sold. This book is his method.
Download or read book John Paul Jones written by Robert Saunders and published by Robert Saunders. This book was released on 2009-05-23 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You don't need to be a history or nautical buff to truly enjoy the fascinating characters in this historical novel. The author has written the dialogue in such a way as to make the reader feel a part of the conversation; part of the scene. It would be as if they were standing right next to John Paul Jones as he got down to the real issue, which is trying to figure how he's going to win the battle aboard the sinking Bon Homme Richard; with rotten oaken sides and holds that are filling with sea water. While at the same time, the HMS Serapis, commanded by Captain Pearson, is ready to finish him off and strip him of his ship and crew.
