Book Renovating the Vietnamese Communist Party

Download or read book Renovating the Vietnamese Communist Party written by Lewis M. Stern and published by Institute of Southeast Asian. This book was released on 1993 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Vietnamese Communist Party has been preoccupied with renewal and reorganization for over a decade. Efforts to eliminate inefficient, ineffective and corrupt cadre; recruit younger, skilled and better educated members; improve basic party chapter-level leadership and organization; and select and train a generation of party secretaries at all levels have limped along since the late 1970s." "This book traces the evolution of the reforms of the party organization under Nguyen Van Linh. Under his leadership party reform gained a new lease on life. However, by 1988 Linh was increasingly stymied by the closing of ranks of party conservatives, the glacial speed with which the party organization responded to reform initiatives, and the extent to which ineffective leadership, poor organizing habits and venality had saturated the core of the party."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Political Parties Party Systems and Democratisation in East Asia

Download or read book Political Parties Party Systems and Democratisation in East Asia written by Liang Fook Lye and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some fledging democracies in the world have encountered setbacks due to political parties trying to grapple with the expectations of sophisticated electorates and introducing gradual political reforms over the years. This book describes how democracy is evolving in East Asia and how it assumes different forms in different countries, with political parties adapting and evolving alongside. It has a two-fold intent. First, it contends that the existing variety of party systems in East Asia will endure and may even flourish, rather than converge as liberal democracies. Second, it highlights the seeming political durability of one party systems ? unlike two-part or multi-party systems in the US and Europe ? and their enduring predominance in countries such as Cambodia, China, Singapore and Vietnam.

Book Renovating Politics in Contemporary Vietnam

Download or read book Renovating Politics in Contemporary Vietnam written by Zachary Abuza and published by Lynne Rienner Publishers. This book was released on 2001 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moving from the 1950s to the present, Zachary Abuza explores Vietnamese politics and culture through the lens of the internal debates over political reform. Abuza focuses on issues of representation, intellecutal freedom, the rise of civil society, and the emergence of a loyal opposition, assessing the prospects for change. He finds that, while some mildly dissident groups may add impetus to the effort, internal party protest remains the most legitimate - and most likely - form of political dissent in the country. His analysis offers a compelling portrayal of the extraordinary contradictions that are at the core of contemporary Vietnam. Abuza explores contemporary Vietnamese politics through the lens of the internal debates over political reform.

Book Vietnam s Economic Policy Since 1975

Download or read book Vietnam s Economic Policy Since 1975 written by Nhan Tri Vo and published by Institute of Southeast Asian. This book was released on 1990 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After a precipitate reunification (1975), the Hanoi leadership imposed upon the South the Stalinist-Maoist strategy of economic development which had been until then applied in the North. This "Northernization" resulted in an economic crisis for the whole country during the last years of the Second Five-Year Plan. Despite some partial reforms, the country was again plunged into a more serious economic and financial crisis at the end of the Third Five-Year Plan, particularly after the ill-conceived monetary reform in September 1985. At the time of its Sixth National Congress (December 1986) the Party's new leadership advocated a strategic shift in its overall economic policy under the banner of Doi Moi (Renovation).

Book Managers and Management in Vietnam

Download or read book Managers and Management in Vietnam written by Vincent Edwards and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-17 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive overview of managers and management in Vietnam, based on extensive original research, including interviews with a large number of managers in Vietnam. It shows how management in Vietnam is best understood from the perspective of Vietnamese managers themselves, rather than in terms of Western or Asian models of management. It discusses the range of enterprises in the Vietnamese economy, which, until 1986, was dominated by large state-owned enterprises and Soviet-style central economic planning, and where there is now a much greater variety, with a mix of privatised state-owned enterprises, foreign-owned companies, joint ventures and a very large number of relatively small private companies, all operating in a social market economy where Party ideology emphasises a balance between economic growth and workers’ rights. The book demonstrates how the tensions arising from this economic landscape are reflected in the views and actions of managers as they balance economic and social goals in their work, and how their activities are constrained further by the enduring influence of local culture which is not always amenable to imported ideas and methods. As many managers have worked in different kinds of companies, the book also reveals a great deal about management in different contexts and also about how companies have changed as the reform process has evolved.

Book Vietnam s Rural Transformation

Download or read book Vietnam s Rural Transformation written by Benedict J Tria Kerkvliet and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-05 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the mid-1980s, Vietnam has experienced remarkable economic, political, and social change. This is the first study in English to focus on rural Vietnam — where nearly 80 per cent of its people live, much of its economic production occurs, and political upheavals earlier this century changed the course of history. Analyzing the impact of economic liberalization on the countryside, the contributors note that despite significant improvements in real income for most rural Vietnamese, poverty is still pronounced and socio-economic inequality appears to be growing. The poorest now appear to have less access to educational and health services. Environmental conditions also pose significant problems. Highlighting the dynamic political scene in Vietnam, the contributors also consider the interplay between national policymaking and local pressures and activity.

Book Politics and Society in Southeast Asia

Download or read book Politics and Society in Southeast Asia written by Peter A. Poole and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-11-18 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Asian financial crisis of 1997-1998 caused severe hardship in Southeast Asia, and many countries tightened their regulation of banks and other financial institutions, adopted more conservative fiscal policies, and made themselves less vulnerable to Western market fluctuations by forming closer trade and investment ties with their neighbors. This book analyzes the major political and economic reforms that resulted from the Asian financial crisis, looking particularly at how such reforms helped to prepare Asian countries for coping with the 2009 global recession. In each of the ten country chapters, the historical background, social and political system, economic development, and foreign relations of each country are analyzed and compared with those of neighboring countries. The concluding chapter looks ahead at the prospects for Southeast Asia in a more integrated Asian region. Instructors considering this book for use in a course may request an examination copy here.
