Download or read book Assessment of the Sexual Health Needs of the Nebraska and Iowa Communities written by Louise Patterson and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Background. Sexual health is a critical component of the overall health and wellbeing of humans. Maintaining sexual health depends on access to comprehensive sexual health information, sexual health services, knowledge of the associated risks, and an environment that supports sexual health. Sexual health is a public health concern in the United States. Research has found that comprehensive sexual health education, and use of sexual health services have a positive impact on sexual behavior. Planned Parenthood is one organization that works to better public health by offering sexual health services and comprehensive sexual health education. However, little is known about the population that is accessing health services at Planned Parenthood. Methods. This study utilized quantitative research methods. A cross sectional, online survey was used to examine demographics, perceived community concerns regarding sexual health, perceived sexual health needs of the community, existing community resources to address sexual health needs, the perception of Planned Parenthood and the history of utilizing Planned Parenthood services. Results. This study found a significant relationship between gender identity and the use of abortion services and condom pick up. There was no significant relationship between frequency of visits and demographic or geographic characteristics. Conclusion. These findings can be used to better understand the relationship between socio-demographics and geographic location on the use of sexual healthcare services.

Book Sexual Health Education Component

Download or read book Sexual Health Education Component written by Connecticut State Department of Education and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-01-26 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is B&W copy of the government agency publication. The purpose of the Guidelines for the Sexual Health Education Component of Comprehensive Health Education (CT Guidelines) is to provide a framework to promote the sexual health and wellbeing of Connecticut's children and youth within a comprehensive health education program. The CT Guidelines offer guidance to local school districts for the development and implementation of sexual health education that reflects the values and norms of the local community. Sexual health education programs include age-appropriate, medically accurate information on a broad set of topics related to sexuality, including human development, relationships, decision-making, abstinence, contraception, and disease prevention (SIECUS, 2010). These developmentally appropriate programs start in prekindergarten and continue through Grade 12. The overall goal of sexual health education is to provide young people with the knowledge and skills to promote their health and well-being as they mature into sexually healthy adults (SIECUS, Guidelines, 2004). The CT Guidelines contain information and resources to assist administrators, teachers and parents/guardians in: making the connection between sexual health and student health and education outcomes; implementing district and school policies that support medically accurate sexual health education programs that address the health needs of all students; identifying desired curriculum goals, objectives and student outcomes; developing an effective PK-12 sexual health education program using developmentally appropriate, medically-accurate and evidence-informed curricula and resources; implementing a sexual health education program using evidence-informed curricula, effective teaching strategies, and student assessments delivered by certified health education teachers appropriately trained in sexual health education; and evaluating the implementation of program goals, objectives and student outcomes."

Book Policies to Address Poverty in America

Download or read book Policies to Address Poverty in America written by Melissa Kearney and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2014-06-19 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One-in-seven adults and one-in-five children in the United States live in poverty. Individuals and families living in povertyÊnot only lack basic, material necessities, but they are also disproportionally afflicted by many social and economic challenges. Some of these challenges include the increased possibility of an unstable home situation, inadequate education opportunities at all levels, and a high chance of crime and victimization. Given this growing social, economic, and political concern, The Hamilton Project at Brookings asked academic experts to develop policy proposals confronting the various challenges of AmericaÕs poorest citizens, and to introduce innovative approaches to addressing poverty.ÊWhen combined, the scope and impact of these proposals has the potential to vastly improve the lives of the poor. The resulting 14 policy memos are included in The Hamilton ProjectÕs Policies to Address Poverty in America. The main areas of focus include promoting early childhood development, supporting disadvantaged youth, building worker skills, and improving safety net and work support.

Download or read book Regional Accountability written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Select Committee on Modernisation of the House of Commons and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2008 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report from the Select Committee on Modernisation of the House of Commons (HCP 282, session 2007-08, ISBN 9780215521675), focuses on regional accountability. The Governance of Britain Green Paper (Cm. 7170, ISBN 9780101717021) put forward proposals for improved democractic accountability and scrutiny of the delivery of public services in the English regions. The Committee, in this report, has concluded that there is clear evidence of an accountability gap at regional level. Regional Development Agencies (RDAs), although accountable to ministers, still conduct many activities that are not subject to a regular, robust scrutiny, and the Committee believes more should be done to monitor the delivery of services. With this in mind, the Committee recommends the establishment of a system of regional select committees, with one select committee for each of the administrative regions in England, with the exception of London. Further, the Committee recommends that up to two regional grand committee meeting should take place in each session for each of the 8 regions. To avoid an adverse impact on House Members' other commitments, membership of regional committees should consist of 10 Members in total. This report therefore sets out a desirability of establishing new structures within the House of Commons to improve regional accountability and Parliamentary scrutiny.
