Download or read book Renewal of Portland Community College and Area High School Career and Technical Education Partnerships written by James Schoelkopf and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Portland Community College has a firmly rooted career and technical education (CTE) partnership with its service area high schools. However, the partnership was continuing to operate as it had for many years. Given the rapid pace of change in the region's workforce, Oregon's secondary and postsecondary educational initiatives, and a shared interest in college and career readiness, the partnership commissioned a review of its existing practices and solicited recommendations for renewing its partnership momentum. The report describes the strengths and challenges for sustaining a strong regional partnership. Recommendations are offered for the restructuring of partnership administration, support, and collaboration. An addendum provides Summer 2010 Partnership Renewal Progress. Two appendixes present: (1) Summer 2010 Partnership Retreat Agenda; and (2) Perkins IV Required Uses of Funds. (Contains 1 footnote.) [This report was prepared under contract to Portland Community College, Portland, Oregon.].

Book The Essential Renewal of America s Schools

Download or read book The Essential Renewal of America s Schools written by Carl Glickman and published by Teachers College Press. This book was released on 2020 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What can today’s educational leaders do to create schools that are purposeful, moral, and successful? In this book, Glickman and Mette provide a powerful set of guidelines that will lead to true school renewal. Using a practical framework for school, district, and community leaders, their roadmap replaces dependence on top-down state and federal regulations, focusing instead on the creation of locally guided initiatives to address local goals. Filled with real-world examples, charts, and illustrations, the text gives teachers, principals, students, parents, central office personnel, school boards, and community members exactly what is needed to remake their schools. Building on Glickman’s highly acclaimed classic, Renewing America’s Schools (1993), this resource is must-reading for anyone involved with school change in today’s divisive and complex times. “My life would have been a whole lot easier if this book had been written when I was in the principal’s office.” —George Wood, former principal and superintendent, Stuart Ohio “This timely and critical book demonstrates how teaching and learning, and a democratic school community, are the key assets to solving our problems. It is not just the future of our schools that is at stake, but democracy itself.” —William Mathis, National Education Policy Center

  • Author : Harold Kwalwasser

  • Release : 2012
  • ISBN : 1610486889
  • Pages : 341 pages

Download or read book Renewal written by Harold Kwalwasser and published by R&L Education. This book was released on 2012 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harold Kwalwasser has put together a call to action for education reform that makes a clear case for what has to be done in order to educate all children to their full potential. He visited forty high-performing and transforming school districts, charters, parochial, and private schools to understand why they have succeeded where others have failed. The analysis in Renewal: Remaking America's Schools for the Twenty-First Century brings together all of the necessary changes in one dynamic strategy. Many schools, even though facing seemingly impossible odds, have succeeded brilliantly. But their histories also reflect that there are neither silver bullets or demons. The heart of successful reform is systemic change, which requires the patience, understanding, and commitment of every adult who has a role in the process, from parents and taxpayers, to the school board members, superintendents, and teachers, and on to state legislators and members of Congress. Renewal offers a clear picture of how to move away from the mass-production style of education that most schools offered throughout the twentieth century to a new, more innovative, and flexible model that can meet this country's promise of truly educating every child and preparing each of them for the challenges ahead.

Book Best Interests of the Student

Download or read book Best Interests of the Student written by Jacqueline A. Stefkovich and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-23 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Best Interests of the Student presents both a theoretical model for guiding educators as they confront legal and ethical dilemmas in their schools, as well as highly accessible and annotated court cases for exploration. Stefkovich introduces an ethical decision-making model that focuses on strategies for determining what actions are in the "best interests of the student," and demonstrates the application of this theoretical model for examining legal and ethical dimensions of court cases. Discussion questions at the end of each case encourage readers to examine issues from differing viewpoints, helping them to become more self-reflective school leaders who can effectively address legal dilemmas in their own contexts. This important text is a valuable resource for both aspiring and practicing school administrators and leaders. This thoroughly revised edition features: An entirely new chapter focusing on issues surrounding technology, specifically bullying, harassment, and "sexting" 13 new legal cases to reflect recent developments in school law, including issues of free speech, teacher accountability, and school policies A continued focus on preparing leaders to meet the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) ethics standard

Book Voices of Resistance and Renewal

Download or read book Voices of Resistance and Renewal written by Dorothy Aguilera–Black Bear and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2015-10-15 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Western education has often employed the bluntest of instruments in colonizing indigenous peoples, creating generations caught between Western culture and their own. Dedicated to the principle that leadership must come from within the communities to be led, Voices of Resistance and Renewal applies recent research on local, culture-specific learning to the challenges of education and leadership that Native people face. Bringing together both Native and non-Native scholars who have a wide range of experience in the practice and theory of indigenous education, editors Dorothy Aguilera–Black Bear and John Tippeconnic III focus on the theoretical foundations of indigenous leadership, the application of leadership theory to community contexts, and the knowledge necessary to prepare leaders for decolonizing education. The contributors draw on examples from tribal colleges, indigenous educational leadership programs, and the latest research in Canadian First Nation, Hawaiian, and U.S. American Indian communities. The chapters examine indigenous epistemologies and leadership within local contexts to show how Native leadership can be understood through indigenous lenses. Throughout, the authors consider political influences and educational frameworks that impede effective leadership, including the standards for success, the language used to deliver content, and the choice of curricula, pedagogical methods, and assessment tools. Voices of Resistance and Renewal provides a variety of philosophical principles that will guide leaders at all levels of education who seek to encourage self-determination and revitalization. It has important implications for the future of Native leadership, education, community, and culture, and for institutions of learning that have not addressed Native populations effectively in the past.
